A Challenging Start to the Year
As reported in the last newsle er, the end of 2023 and the start of 2024 presented huge challenges. Despite the sadness and shock of the sudden passing of Andre Fischer, our long-term partner in the Port Elizabeth and East London shops, it was necessary to bring these shops into the Ndlovu accoun ng system and management structure. Thank you to Pauline and the Eastern Cape staff for all their input and to Jaco from Jet Park for reloca ng to PE to help with opera ons.
The fire that gu ed our Cape Town shop in December, caused stock, staff, insurance and logis c challenges, but resulted in two new shops being up and running successfully in February. Thank you again to everyone involved. Hopefully, dividing one shop into three will help staff provide more convenient service to customers.
Yet another challenge was that, prior to the above happenings, leases had already been signed on two premises in Northern KZN and Mpumalanga respec vely, and so we had to con nue with the refurbishment and openings of these new shops.
Thank you to all staff involved and to Herman, our builder, and to Dewald and Thabo, for going on auto mode over Christmas and New Year to get four new shops up and running and adding East London and PE to the accoun ng system in sixty days. An amazing effort!
All the best to Sanele Maseko and Andile Makhaye, both longterm sales staff, who have taken up the management of the two, new, planned shops, Ermelo and Newcastle.
We welcome Dale David as our Brackenfell Branch Manager. Dale has many years of security product experience having been previously involved in both CCTV and Alarm sales in the Cape Province.

The MBXL Range (MB8-MB16) has had a complete internal and external upgrade. Externally, it has received a much larger easy to see LCD with enhanced features. Internally, the unit is now fully programable via VKB (Virtual Keypad) using your smart phone. The units are now also much easier to connect to Wi-Fi and the VKB by simply scanning the QR code provided on the side of the energizer.

JVA Solar Energizers
The JVA Solar Energizers have received a model upgrade and range expansion. All the units have been upgraded to the larger easierto-see LCD with enhanced features as seen below. A 2 Joule SV20, all-in-one unit, has been added to the range, doubling the power of the SV10 model. The move from Lead Acid to Lithium ba eries, across the SV range has given the engineers the ability to increase power and outputs while decreasing the weight of the unit.

Having listed the advantages and disadvantages of the Lithium vs Lead Acetate Ba eries, here is a more detailed explana on as to their modus operandi:
Fig 1. A lead acetate ba ery is a steady discharge ba ery. Star ng at 13.7 volts on the graph, it discharges steadily un l it reaches 8 to 6 volts, at which point it will stop discharging and whatever it is powering will cease to operate. However, at 11.4 volts, JVA Z-series energizers will stop performing and drawing power from these ba eries, protec ng the ba eries from fully discharging and so increasing the ba ery life.
Fig 2. A lithium ba ery will maintain its voltage at a steady rate and then suddenly discharge to Zero. This causes problems when re-charging the ba eries, as an ordinary charger will not detect any ba ery a ached as it used a reference of +/- 6V to detect a ba ery present. It is therefore impera ve that one uses a lithium compa ble charger with a Lithium ba ery to wake up and charge the ba ery. At present, our new solar units have this facility and the Z-Series will soon also have this extra charging facility. A Lithium ba ery should not be used on current Z-Range models. (See page 7 Techno Talk for explana ons on how to connect Lithium ba eries to energizers.)

The current Z-Range so ware does not allow direct connec on to a lithium iron ba ery. An external power supply is needed to directly charge and manage the lithium ba ery.

When wiring a system, and especially when using more than one ba ery it's impera ve:
1) Ba eries are wired in Parallel (Maintains the 12V System)
2) The Charger or Regulator is connected to posi ves and nega ves on the furthest opposite ba eries.
3) The Energizer or Inverter is connected to the alternate posi ve and nega ve on the furthest opposite ba eries
4) This way the system sees the ba ery as one big ba ery and charges and draws from the ba eries uniformly.
5) Failure to wire as per, Fig 1&2, page 2, will reduce charging and ba ery capacity and the lifespan of the system.

Obituary
It is with sad hearts, that we announce the passing of Themba Mpangele. Themba was a founda on member of our Cape Town staff with over 20 years' service. Ini ally, he assisted Paddy with the manufacture of wall-top brackets and Live Lites from Paddy's homebased workshop and then moved on to being the company driver and eventually running the Cape Town workshop.
With a smile that could light up a room, Themba was focused, proud and passionate about his work. Sadly, a er a valiant fight, he succumbed to Cancer. Themba will be sorely missed, and our sincere condolences go out to his wife Zodidi and his children Indephele,

They say, ‘Knowledge is Power’ and when dealing with JVA power, it’s very important to have as much knowledge as possible so as not to burn one’s fingers. The same can be said for Dahua CCTV Systems, Roboguard and Askari beam systems, Automa c Gate Motors – in fact all the product ranges that Stafix Electric Fence and Security Centers market and sell.
It was with this in mind that Stafix Electric Fence & Security Centers, decided to establish a fully registered integrated training ins tu on, Ndlovu College, to provide installers with the best theore cal and prac cal training possible. This fully equipped training college is situated in Harmelia, a suburb very close to Jet Park and Oliver Tambo Interna onal Airport. The facility boasts a wellequipped lecture room, a prac-room containing fences for COC training and candidate evalua on, a room fully equipped for camera and CCTV training, and demo-areas specializing in gate automa on, Roboguard systems, and agricultural and wildlife fencing.
This Stafix training facility also has a fully func onal Security Control Guard Room providing trainees with the opportunity to gain experience in fully integra ng the diverse ranges of security products and security and animal control electric fence monitoring systems, marketed by Stafix Electric Fence and Security Centers.
The training college also has a comfortable entertainment and refreshment area and is located right next door to two moderately priced hotels.
Besides this JHB training centre, we have training centres in 11 of our Stafix Branches na onwide, making it easier and more accessible for those who wish to train and build their skills and knowledge though our available courses.
