ADULT LEARNING | TALKS & DISCUSSIONS

What can we learn from Baruch Spinoza? with Harris Bor Tuesdays 5-19 June 2 - 3.30pm | Classes £20 per session £48 for the 3 sessions

Baruch Spinoza

Baruch (later Benedict) Spinoza (1632-1677) is considered to be one of the most important rationalist philosophers and forerunners of the 18th-century Enlightenment, but is best known in Jewish circles for having been excommunicated from the Jewish community on account of his heretical world-views. This short course aims to provide an insight into Spinoza’s main philosophical ideas and asks whether they have any relevance for contemporary society or our own spiritual lives.

How to Deal with and Recognise Narcissism with Mickey Yudkin

Hampton Court with Stephen Burstin

Sunday 29 April | 1.30 - 5.30pm £22 | Talk

Wednesday 13 June | 7.30 - 9pm | Talk £15 | £12 Online early bird

Explore Narcissism, an excessive preoccupation with the self at the expense of relating and connecting with others. Narcissism is often defensive hiding shame, depression and a fragile sense of self. We’ll examine what shapes Narcissistic personalities, learning to understand this phenomenon in individuals, society and culture.

Join Stephen Burstin for a magical lecture about Hampton Court Palace, former home of the notorious King Henry VIII, and discover incredible Jewish anecdotes on this virtual tour as you learn the fate of Henry’s six (unfortunate) wives; see the amazing surviving Tudor kitchens; the awesome Great Hall that lavishly fed and entertained 800 guests a day; the luscious gardens that took three years to create and a few seconds to destroy; and many other fascinating sights and stories.

Poetry, stories, pair and group work and the theories of Freud, Cooper and Maxwell will help us in our exploration.

And our many other supporters and members.

What have you done today to make you feel proud? Sometime in the coming months our one millionth visitor will cross the bridge and join us at JW3. Maybe to take a class in Jewish history, or dance at a Klezmer music concert or perhaps to come to celebrate Israel’s 70th. They may be part of a family, coming to a Funday Sunday Crafternoon activity, or a new parent attending a baby yoga session, or a teenager on Youth Leadership Training, or a Young Professional coming to a JW3 Friday Night Dinner or a Holocaust survivor meeting school kids. We don’t mind what they - or the 999,999 people we welcomed before them - enjoy most about JW3. For us what’s important is that people from all walks of life, across all strands of the community and beyond have found a way of connecting with Jewish culture and Jewish community through JW3. And that makes us feel proud. Especially as we start to look back on some of our achievements in our 5th anniversary year. But to continue to be ‘open to all’ for the next 5 years - and beyond – we need your help. 40% of our funding comes from personal donations, without which we simply wouldn’t be in the ‘connections business’. So, please consider making a donation. You can donate online with every ticket purchase, visit jw3.org.uk/donate or contact Yasmin in our Development Team on 020 7433 8975 to discuss making a donation or leaving a legacy. Thank you for your support.
