WHAT’S ON: FAMILIES & FUSION
We have a really exciting mix of crafts, dance, music, film, performance, classes and lots more to keep families entertained this autumn! Join us every weekend for Family Fun Sundays: create your own paper-cut klezmer band and musical instrument magnets at our Klezmer in the Park tent, or enjoy a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and interactive screening of Alice in Wonderland, with songs, prizes and tea drinking. Kafka Kids, part of the our Kafka Festival, features a Kafka inspired puppetry workshop and a creepy crawly Crafternoon. We’ll also be screening Happy Feet, with a special family tap session. FUSION is our programme designed for young people. Kids can create choreography from their favourite pop songs at Street Dance, explore the science of food at our explosive Food Experiment series, or learn illustration and drawing techniques with professional cartoonist Marf. There’s also the FUSION Half Term Scheme, featuring exciting activities and sessions. Expecting and new parents can enjoy Baby Yoga, Antenatal Classes and Zest’s Baby Café. Other events for parents include Growing Motivation in your children and The Parent Gym - a free six-week parenting programme. And, of course, the JW3 Ice Rink returns for a third spectacular year... We look forward to seeing you!

Family Fun Sundays Sunday 6 September Sunday 13 September KLEZMER IN THE PARK 12.15-6pm, FREE Make some noise at Klezmer in the Park with JW3! FREE activities for families including retro badge making, paper fortune tellers, quizzes and the chance to win prizes. Help us to build a gigantic goat puppet for our new year parade and learn about goat, ram and shofar. Make some noise and learn the theory and practice of shofar blowing on jumbo Yemenite shofarot. Bee creative and make honeycomb greeting cards, design your own pomegranate papercraft and relax with soft play and funky tunes. Play your part in creating a giant map of London in our FREE Crafternoon and have a go at making marshmallow buildings in geodesic shapes. JW3 celebrates the 150th anniversary of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with an action-packed interactive cinema screening. Grab a goodie bag, a songsheet and get ready for a quizzes, prizes and tea drinking extravaganza. Its topsy-turvy world full of surprises and nonsensical fun. An event created to make you curiouser and curiouser!
The kettle is brewing and we’ve got a Crafternoon tea party in store for you. Join the Mad Hatter as we create colourfully eccentric hats and a Wonderland pocket watch that ‘tells the day of the month, and doesn’t tell what o’clock it is!’. You may even hear a spontaneous round of the Unbirthday Song!

Sunday 25 October KAFKA KIDZ: SHADOW PUPPETRY 3-4.30pm, £12 per child Join award-winning puppetry director Oliver Hymans in this unique Kafka inspired puppetry workshop. We’ll be exploring the story of Metamorphosis, in which Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams to find himself transformed into a gigantic insect! Delve into the world of bugs, creepy-crawlies and strangely shifting shapes as we explore the story through shadow puppetry and playing with scale and size.
KAFKANOON 2-5pm, FREE We’ll be enjoying the work of Kafka in this creepy-crawly Crafternoon as we make and morph shapes into new forms, visually inspired by German Expressionism. We’ll be exploring how images of reality can be distorted to form new creations. For ages 2-9. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sunday 1 November CRAFTERNOON: CRAFTY CATHERINE WHEEL 2-2.45pm, 3.15-4pm, 4.30-5.15pm, FREE Remember, remember the 5th of November! Get ready to make a bang with this homemade pasta noodle firework – ready for you to hang from your dining room chandelier. The pasta fireworks sparkle as much as the real deal, and they are a whole lot quieter and safer. For ages 2-9. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
FIREWORK-FANTASTIC 2-2.45pm, 3.15-4pm, 4.30-5.15pm, £10 per child Tea Dance for Little People are here to set your autumnal nights ablaze with this interactive workshop. We’re creating a real buzz for fireworks night as we welcome a range of colourful characters including Guy Fawkes, gunpowder smugglers and the real-live fireworks backing dancers Catherine Wheel and Fuse Alight, as well as the rock’n’roll-loving Rusty Rocket. Followed by tea and cupcakes (decorated with firework designs by your little ones). For ages 18 months - 5 years. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Sunday 8 November ARTIST’S STUDIO 2-4.30pm, FREE JW3 welcomes you to our Artist’s Studio, a FREE drop-in artist-led family workshop which will enliven your imagination. Sunday 15 November Sunday 22 November CRAFTERNOON WITH BAREFOOT BOOKS: SKIP THROUGH THE SEASONS 2-5pm, FREE This autumn, decorate your windows with translucent leaves that let the sun shine through, inspired by the book Skip Through the Seasons. Enjoy our Barefoot Books Fair where you can treat the family to books with outstanding illustrations, and we’ll also be having a short rhyme time session at 3pm and 4pm - rhyme time for ages 1+ and craft activity for ages 2+. Crafts suitable for ages 2+. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
MITZVAH DAY 2-5pm, FREE Mitzvah Day is a Jewish led day of social action – roll up your sleeves, give your time and make a difference! Mitzvah Day is a time to help others – and we’ve got lots of activities for families: Tzedakah box making, helping Challah for Hunger in the kitchen, creating a mural for the local community group and more. Sing-along Teatime: We’ll also be making Mitzvah Day extra special for Spring Grove Retirement Home, situated opposite JW3. Join us to help give residents a party to remember – decorate the care home, sing songs, chat and drink tea. We will be leaving from the JW3 Box Office at 1.30pm and volunteering will finish at 4pm. Since 2005, the Comedy Club 4 Kids has been getting the best stand-ups and sketch acts from the international circuit to do their thing for an audience of children and their families… but without the rude bits! It’s just like a normal comedy club, but it’s on in the day, kids are allowed in, and thus there is a higher than usual chance of heckles like ‘why is that your face!?’ For ages 6+. In our Reel Moves series you can watch a wonderful film that celebrates the joy of dancing, accompanied by the chance to take part in a dance session. This season’s familyfriendly Reel Moves event features a screening of Happy Feet. In the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soulmates through song, a penguin is born who cannot sing. But he can tap dance something fierce!
Inspired by Happy Feet, we’ll be creating our very own tap dancing penguins with sparkly shoes and all the right moves! For ages 2+. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
After the film, learn the musicality of rhythm tap and throw moves to make you feel like a Broadway star in a one-off tap dancing taster session aimed at getting all the family on the dancefloor. This is a light-hearted and fun family activity, so get practicing … heel, toe, heel, toe, tap, tap, tap! And if you can’t make the film, then feel free to just book the tap session. Learn illustration and drawing techniques - from cartooning to painting - with the professional cartoonist, Marf (Martha Richler). Looking at many contemporary and classic applications of drawing, budding artists will be able to learn various drawing techniques, develop a personal library of images and their own distinctive style. Marf, a professional book illustrator and cartoonist for newspapers including the Evening Standard, has years of experience teaching children at The Big Draw, in the City of London and at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Her work is in the V&A’s permanent collection. For ages 5-7. This is a drop-off event.

Each week we explore a different theme through creative learning and fun experiments. We’ll build homemade parachutes, rubber band cannons and periscopes while learning more about forces, motion and energy. We’ll also explore how the human body works by building models of hearts and lungs, and use everyday materials to understand more about air pressure. The Six Point Foundation survivor enrichment programme grant can, at JW3’s discretion, provide an 80% reduction for entrance to a wide range of events at JW3 for those Holocaust survivors and refugees who would like to attend but have financial needs. The Six Point Foundation grant can also assist with transport costs, carers and other relevant accessibility costs for those unable to meet these costs themselves.
