Erev Tov Eurovision!
Sefiroth in Concert
Monday 6 May | 7pm £15 | Music
Thursday 4 July | 7.30pm £15 | Live Music
As Israel prepares to host Eurovision, we take a tongue-in-cheek look at Israel’s relationship with this kitsch festival of song. Israel is just a little country that isn’t even in Europe, but right from its debut entry year in 1973 it has out-sung out-danced and out-kitsched all rivals. Re-live Israel’s Hai’s and Hora’s on our Eurovision big screen. Hosted by Ben Gurion International, Angela Ripoff and tons of chutzpah. You’ll even have the chance to join in the singing and the voting. Who will get your “nil points”?
Sefiroth is an eight-piece ensemble founded by brothers Nick and Alex Roth to explore and re-imagine traditional Sephardi repertoire with a contemporary aesthetic. Sung in Ladino, these ancient songs weave timeless stories of love, loss and yearning for home, evoking the lands in which the Sephardic diaspora settled: Iberia, the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Bar Kokhba (by Arthur Szyk, 1927)
In recent years, Israel has added a number of festivals to the Jewish calendar, mainly through resolution of the Knesset, not the rabbinate. What are the implications for Jewish life around the world of the possibility of the Israeli Knesset determining aspects of Jewish life around the world?
Greatest Catastrophe Ever to Hit the Jews? The Bar Kokhba Revolt with Clive Lawton OBE Tuesday 21 May 10.30am - 12.30pm £20 | £16 Online early bird The fact of the revolt is little known, the details even less so. As we emerge from the immense shadow of the Holocaust, it is worth considering how the Jews coped with the stunning, numbing catastrophe of the aftermath of the Bar Kokhba revolt more than 18 centuries ago. Are there parallels from which we can learn or is the past - and the Land of Israel - too much ‘another country’?

This is an intimate family portrait of an extraordinary man with universal appeal.

The Six Point Foundation legacy grant survivor enrichment programme can, at JW3’s discretion, provide an 80% reduction for entrance to a wide range of events at JW3 for those Holocaust survivors and refugees who would like to attend but have financial needs. The Six Point Foundation legacy grant can also assist with transport costs, carers and other relevant accessibility costs for those unable to meet these costs themselves.
JW3 is a Jewish community centre with a kosher restaurant, café and bar – only food bought at JW3 can be eaten on the premises. When we are open over Shabbat or Jewish holidays, we will run a reduced “JW3 Unplugged” programme and the Cinema and Zest will be closed. Further details available on request. Prices, dates and times are subject to change. We love JW3 and from time to time we take photos and videos in JW3 and Zest for marketing purposes. If you do not want to be included in photos or videos for these purposes please let a member of staff know. JW3 Trust Ltd is a registered charity, No. 1117644.
