Dear Friends, Welcome to JWI’s 2015 Women to Watch celebration! Our honorees for this year – 10 outstanding, dynamic Jewish women from communities across the United States – exemplify the achievement, passion and inspiration at the heart of this award. Although they work in a diversity of fields – physics; philanthropy; psychology; technology; law; advocacy; culinary arts; spirituality – all are working in ways that will better our world for years to come. This has been a remarkable year for all who work to end violence against women. We hope that, during this luncheon, you'll learn not only about our extraordinary honorees, but also about JWI's critical work to protect and empower and girls – work that is funded by this event. Yesterday, we held JWI’s third annual national mentoring conference as part of our Sondra D. Bender Leadership Institute and our Young Women’s Leadership Network. More than 100 young Jewish women joined former Women to Watch to draw strength from the honorees’ wisdom, discussing Jewish values in life and work, turning challenges into opportunities, tackling global women's issues, and much more. It was a unique opportunity for young women to connect with mentors as they become the next generation of Women to Watch. Thank you for joining us today to honor such remarkable women, and for supporting JWI’s work to empower women and girls and break the cycle of domestic violence, in the U.S. and around the world. B’Shalom,
Kim Oster Holstein Chair, Board of Trustees
Lori Weinstein CEO 4

JWI JWI brings vision, voice and leadership to issues that impact all women and girls. Our innovative programs, advocacy and philanthropic initiatives are at work every day to end violence, promote economic security and spotlight leadership for women and girls. We use every tool we have to help at-risk women take control of their lives; to put girls in control of their futures; and to break the cycle of abuse. THE WOMEN TO WATCH CELEBRATION This marks the 15th annual celebration of JWI and its award-winning JW magazine honoring extraordinary Women to Watch, selected for outstanding accomplishments and contributions to our society and the American Jewish experience. These women inspire others to achieve with their strength and intelligence. Individually and collectively, they add to the incredible legacy of Women to Watch leadership. THE YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE This is the culmination of a year's worth of Young Women’s Leadership Network programming. The day before JWI's annual Women to Watch gala, current and past honorees provide guidance and inspiration to young women who are building their careers. The conference is funded by the Sondra D. Bender Leadership Institute at JWI. JWI’S PHILANTHROPY JWI is deeply committed to supporting initiatives and programs that help women and children build more secure and healthy lives. Our philanthropic initiatives bolster the financial literacy and security of women and girls across the economic spectrum, while the National Library Initiative establishes new children’s libraries in battered women’s shelters nationwide. THE SONDRA D. BENDER LEADERSHIP AWARD Named to honor the late philanthropist and generous supporter of JWI’s work to empower women and girls, this will be our 11th year honoring one woman for her work to galvanize the Washington, DC community, mentor new leaders and make the D.C. area a better place to live, work and thrive. JW MAGAZINE JWI’s lifestyle publication covers topics of interest to Jewish women from every walk of life. Widely read in print and online, the magazine inspires a broad spectrum of readers to weave a Jewish context into their lives in uniquely creative, personal and spiritually fulfilling ways. Through an award-winning blend of in-depth articles, book reviews, short features, recipes and much more, JW speaks to the diversity, accomplishments and passions of women all over the world. To learn more about JWI’s work to bring vision, voice and leadership to issues that impact all women and girls, visit jwi.org or call 800.343.2823. As spiritual consultant to Canyon Ranch properties, she has become a nationally recognized personality, speaking across the country and frequently appearing in the national media as an expert in her field. We tell them not to drink and drive. We tell them to stay away from drugs. What do we tell them about dating? This year, one in three teens in the U.S. will be a victim of physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner. If you know a teen, you can make a difference. Email dfleitman@jwi.org to learn how to bring this free, easy-to-use program to your workplace, PTA meeting, coaches’ association session or any place adults gather. JWI developed Dating Abuse: Tools for Talking to Teens as one of three organizations selected by the Avon Foundation for Women to create bystander programs.
