Das Bikefieber hat uns gepackt. Im Juni findet zum ersten Mal das Mountainbike Festival Crankworx im Bikepark Innsbruck statt. Besonders toll für unsere Gäste: Alle sportlichen Bewerbe finden bei freiem Eintritt statt. In den Monaten davor freuen wir uns aber auch auf viele schöne Frühlingshighlights, allen voran die Osterzeit mit besonderen Tiroler Bräuchen. Kunstvolle Ostergräber und –krippen zieren in der Karwoche die Kirchen der Feriendörfer. Imposant sind auch die Palmsonntagsprozessionen eine Woche vor dem großen Fest. Die liebevoll gebundenen Palmbuschen aus Palmkätzchen und schmückendem Beiwerk sind immer wieder ein schöner Anblick. Und für alle, die während der Fastenzeit durch die Stadt spazieren, gibt es den Ostermarkt mit bunter Frühlingsdekoration und Auftritten von Brauchtumsgruppen. Auf Kulturfreunde wartet das Osterfestival Tirol mit drei Wochen Konzerte, Tanzaufführungen und Passionsmusik. Im Frühling zieht es uns aber auch nach draußen, um die ersten warmen Sonnenstrahlen aufzufangen. Deshalb stellen wir Ihnen auf den folgenden Seiten auch einige schöne Frühlingswanderungen und Stadtspaziergänge vor. Bike fever has captivated us. The Crankworx mountain bike festival will be held for the first time at Bike Park Innsbruck in June. Especially fantastic for our guests: all athletic competitions take place with free admission. But during the months before that we are also looking forward to many beautiful spring highlights, first and foremost the Easter period with special Tyrolean customs. Elaborate Easter graves and cribs decorate the churches in the holiday villages. The Palm Sunday processions one week before the great feast are also impressive. The lovingly bound “palm bunches” made of catkin and ornamental accessories are always a beautiful sight. And for all those who walk through the city during Lent, there is the Easter Market with colourful spring decoration and performances by local heritage groups. The Tyrol Easter Festival with three weeks featuring concerts, dance performances and Passion music is waiting for culture lovers. But spring also draws us outside in order to catch the first warm rays of sunshine. That is why on the following pages we are also presenting you with a few nice spring hikes and city walks so that you can gain the most beautiful impressions of alpine beauty and exuberant city flair. Wenn der Schnee schmilzt , laden viele Parks, Plätze und Grünflächen in Innsbruck ein, die Seele baumeln zu lassen. When the snow melts, lots of parks, squares and green spaces in Innsbruck invite you to just chill out.

Frühling | Spring

ie Temperaturen steigen, Krokusse sprießen aus der feuchten Erde, die Vögel finden wieder nach Hause und singen in den knospenden Bäumen von ihren Abenteuern im Winter. Wenn in Innsbruck der Frühling kommt, sind die zahlreichen Grünanlagen mit ihren noch vom Tau glitzernden Wiesen und gemütlichen Bänken unter uralten Eichen wieder bereit für Gäste aller Art – ob es nun das Eichhörnchen oder auch ein Zweibeiner ist. Höchste Zeit also für den ersten Frühlingsspaziergang!

Von der Innpromenade zum Hofgarten

Nirgends kitzelt die Sonne einen so angenehm auf der Nase wie bei einem Spaziergang an einem warmen Tag entlang des Inns und seinen gemütlichen Promenaden. Gestartet werden kann z. B. an der Unibrücke, von dort aus gelangt man, dem gemächlichen Fluss folgend, in die Innenstadt. Passiert man die Innbrücke, empfängt einen ein paar hundert Meter weiter der kaiserliche Hofgarten in all seiner Pracht. Der aufwendig und wunderschön gestaltete Park bietet sowohl Spielmöglichkeiten für die kleinen als auch erholsame Plätze für die großen Besucher. Auch für das leibliche Wohl ist außerdem dank eines Restaurants gesorgt.

Der Rapoldipark und das Wiltener Platzl

Im Stadtteil Pradl zwischen Sill und Leipzigerplatz gilt der Rapoldipark als Markenzeichen des Viertels. Hier treffen verschiedene Kulturen, Familien, Haustiere, Radfahrer und Gäste und Besitzer von Imbissbuden aufeinander. In den liebevoll angelegten Teichen tummeln sich verschiedene Entenarten, während Jugendliche an den eigens dafür aufgestellten Holzpfählen ihre Slacklines spannen. Gleichzeitig sonnen sich ein paar Leute auf ihren Handtüchern in den Liegewiesen und man hört das Lachen und Qietschen der Kinder auf den Spielplätzen. Wer es lebhaft urban und gleichzeitig natürlich entspannt mag, der ist auch am Wiltener Platzl im gleichnamigen Stadtteil genau richtig. Rund herum findet man gemütlich moderne Cafés, Bars und Geschäfte. Oft wird der Platz auch als Austragungsstätte für verschiedene Märkte genutzt, wie zum Beispiel den wöchentlichen Bauernmarkt am Samstag, aber auch verschiedene Flohmärkte, Feste u. v. m. Am Wiltener Platzl ist immer was los!

Vom Ambraser Schlosspark zur Bergiselschanze

From the Inn promenade to the Hofgarten

Nowhere does the sun tickle your nose as pleasantly as during a walk along the Inn river and its leisurely promenades on a warm day. You can start, for example, by the Unibrücke bridge and then follow the sedate river from there into the city centre. As you pass the Inn bridge you are welcomed by the imperial Hofgarten in all its glory just a few hundred metres further on. The elaborately and beautifully designed park offers both opportunities for children to play and quiet spots for adults to relax. You won’t go hungry or thirsty either thanks to the restaurant.

Rapoldipark and Wiltener Platzl

In the Pradl part of town between Sill and Leipzigerplatz, the Rapoldipark is considered to be the district’s landmark. Different cultures, families, pets, cyclists, guests and snack stand owners come together here. Various duck species frolic in the lovely ponds while youngsters stretch their slacklines to the wooden posts specially erected for this. At the same time, a few people are sunbathing on their towels on the lawns and you can here the laughing and squealing of children on the playgrounds. Anyone who likes lively urban but at the same time naturally relaxed, is in just the right place at Wiltener Platzl in the part of town with the same name. You can find cosy modern cafés, bars and shops all around. The square is also often used as a venue for various markets, for example the weekly farmers’ market on Saturday but also different flea markets, festivals and much more. There’s always something going on at Wiltener Platzl!

From Ambras Castle park to the Bergisel ski jump

Impressive Ambras Castle towers above Innsbruck’s rooftops and its gates are open to visitors all year round. Lots of exotic animal species can be found again in the castle park in the spring too. You can walk under the stately trees with peacocks or sit in the grass with families of swans. There is also an old plant and herb garden next to the castle entrance, which is fenced in by old stone walls, as well as the mysterious Bacchus grotto, which was built by Archduke Ferdinand for this guests and hewn out of stone. In front of the entrance to the castle park, a gravel path into the forest opens up on the other side of the road. If you keep following the signs towards Tummelplatz you reach the Bergisel ski jump after about a 45-minute walk from where you can enjoy a view over Innsbruck. In doing so you wander through the mystical forest cemetery, among ■ other things, and can enjoy nature to the full.

Über den Dächern Innsbrucks thront das eindrucksvolle Schloss Ambras, welches rund ums Jahr seine Pforten für Besucher geöffnet hält. Im Frühjahr finden sich außerdem auch wieder viele exotische Tierarten im Schlosspark. Hier kann man mit Pfauen unter den stattlichen Bäumen hindurchspazieren oder sich mit Schwanenfamilien ins Gras setzen. Außerdem gibt es neben dem Schlosseingang einen alten Pflanzen- und Kräutergarten, welcher von alten Steinmauern umzäunt ist, sowie die geheimnisvolle Bacchus-Grotte, welche von Erzherzog Ferdinand für seine Gäste errichtet und aus Stein geschlagen wurde. Vor dem Eingang zum Schlosspark eröffnet sich einem auf der gegenüberliegenden Straßenseite ein Kiesweg in den Wald. Immer den Schildern Richtung Tummelplatz entlang gelangt man nach ca. 45 Minuten zu Fuß zur Bergiselschanze, von welcher aus man einen Ausblick über Innsbruck genießt. Dabei durchstreift man unter anderem den mystisch wirkenden Waldfriedhof und kann die Natur in vollen Zügen genießen. ■

Osterbräuche der besonderen Art Special Easter customs

Man kennt die typische Ostereisuche oder die Familienfeier am Osterwochenende – dies repräsentiert in Tirol aber nur einen kleinen Teil der Ostertraditionen. Rund um und in Innsbruck finden sich zahlreiche, nur in diesem Bundesland praktizierte, brauchtümliche Highlights. We are all familiar with the typical Easter egg hunt or family celebration at Easter weekend but these represent just a small part of the Easter traditions in Tyrol. There are numerous highlights of customs practised just in this federal state in and around Innsbruck.

b wunderschön aufbereitete Ostergräber, beeindruckende Palmprozessionen, fröhliche Festivals oder charmante Ostermärkte – in Tirol weiß man die Auferstehung des Herren allemal zu feiern. Einige Veranstaltungen, die man auch als Besucher nicht verpassen sollte, stehen in Innsbruck und seinen Feriendörfern auf dem Programm.

Der Innsbrucker Ostermarkt

Im Rahmen des Innsbrucker Osterfrühlings öffnet auch der berühmte Innsbrucker Ostermarkt wieder seine Pforten für Besucher aus aller Welt. Vor dem Goldenen Dachl in der Altstadt werden an rund 30 Ständen Osterdekorationen, Handwerkskunst und regionale Schmankerln angeboten. Ebenfalls sorgen Musik- und Brauchtumsgruppen für gute Stimmung. Besonderen Anklang bei den kleinen Besuchern findet die Osternestsuche und auch die riesigen Ostereier, welche überall in

der Innenstadt für bunte Abwechslung sorgen, zaubern Passanten ein Lächeln ins Gesicht.

Osterfestival Tirol

Die renommierte Veranstaltung zählt zu den bekanntesten Osterfestivals im deutschsprachigen Raum. Über drei Wochen lang kann zu Konzerten, Tanzaufführungen sowie Passionsmusiken getanzt, gehorcht und gestaunt werden. Dieses Jahr findet der Event in Hall in Tirol unter dem Motto „auf.bruch“ statt. Sowohl der internationale künstlerische Austausch als auch der Bezug zu österlichen Traditionen stehen dabei im Mittelpunkt.

Palmsonntags-Prozessionen

In vielen Gemeinden wird besonders der Sonntag vor Ostern, der Palmsonntag, mit aufwendigen und traditionsreichen Prozessionen gefeiert. Zuerst lassen die Bäuerinnen ihre wunderschön gebundenen Palmbuschen in der Kirche weihen, welche dann das restliche Jahr über auf ihre Felder und

in ihre Ställe gelegt werden, um die Ernte und das Vieh zu schützen. In manchen Gemeinden tragen junge Männer auch Palmlatten, die teilweise über 30 Meter lang sind und kunstvoll mit bunten Bändern, Ölzweigen und Brezeln geschmückt werden, oder es werden holzgeschnitzte Palmesel auf Wägen durch die Straßen gezogen.

Kunstvolle Ostergräber

Die Tradition kurz vor Ostern, nämlich am Karfreitag und Karsamstag, heilige Gräber in katholischen Kirchen aufzustellen, reicht auf das frühe Mittelalter zurück. Seit einiger Zeit erfreuen sich die wunderschön gestalteten Gräber wieder großer Beliebtheit. Lange nicht mehr benutzte Grabaufbauten werden aus den Depots herausgeholt, restauriert und aufgestellt. Die Aufrichtung erfolgt schon zu Beginn der Karwoche oder erst am Gründonnerstag. Sie sind meist bis zum Ostermontag zu sehen, manchmal sogar bis zum Weißen Sonntag, dem ersten Sonntag nach Ostern. Der Brauch wird besonders in den Feriendörfern rund um Innsbruck, nämlich in Axams, Igls, Patsch, Natters, Mutters, Götzens, Birgitz, ■ Kematen und Oberperfuss, gepflegt.

Innsbruck Easter market

During Innsbruck’s “Osterfrühling” (Easter springtime), the famous Innsbruck Easter market opens its doors again for visitors from all over the world. Easter decorations, arts and crafts and regional delicacies are offered at roughly 30 stands in front of the Golden Roof in the old town. Bands and traditional groups also provide a good atmosphere. The Easter nest hunt goes down particularly

well with young visitors and huge Easter eggs that provide colourful variety all over the city centre bring a smile to the faces of passers-by.

Tyrol Easter festival

The renowned even is one of the most famous Easter festivals in German-speaking Europe. You can dance, listen and be amazed at concerts, dance performances and passion music over three whole weeks. This year the event is taking place in Hall in Tyrol under the motto “auf.bruch” (awakening).The focus is on both international artistic exchange and reference to Easter traditions.

Palm Sunday processions

The Sunday before Easter, Palm Sunday, is celebrated with elaborate processions steeped in rich tradition in many communities. First of all the women farmers have their beautifully bound palm blessed in church, which are then placed on their fields and in their barns for the rest of the year to protect the harvest and their animals. In some communities, young men also carry palm poles some of which are over 30 metres long and artistically decorated with colourful ribbons, oil branches and pretzels or wooden-carved palm donkeys are carried through the streets on carts.

Artistic Easter graves

The tradition of setting up holiday graves in Catholic churches just before Easter, namely on Good Friday and Easter Saturday, dates back to the Early Middle Ages. The beautifully created graves have been very popular again for quite some time. Grave structures that have not been used for a long time are taken out of storage, restored and erected. They are set up at the beginning of Holy Week or not only Maundy Thursday. They can usually be seen until Easter Monday, some in fact until the Octave of Easter, the first Sunday after Easter. The custom is particularly cultivated in the holiday villages around Innsbruck, namely in Axams, Igls, Patsch, Natters, Mutters, ■ Götzens, Birgitz, Kematen and Oberperfuss.

2.6.2017 Anfang Juni wird die Innsbrucker Altstadt wieder von einem Leichtathletik-Spektakel der besonderen Art beehrt. Wenn die Sonne untergeht, schwingen sich internationale Top-Athleten im Stabhoch- und Weitsprung wieder über jede Hürde. Im Kreuzfeuer-Modus und in nächster Nähe zum Publikum kämpfen sie auch 2017 wieder um die WM-Qualifiktion und Weltranglistenplatzierungen. Um den beliebten Event in ungewöhnlicher Umgebung zu ermöglichen, wurde die größte mobile Leichtathletikanlage der Welt konstruiert. Die außergewöhnliche Konstruktion, auf der die Veranstalung abgehalten wird, hat auch bereits andere Top-Destinationen wie Rio de Janeiro, München oder das Fürstentum Liechtenstein erreicht. Die Internationale Golden Roof Challenge hat sich zum weltweiten In-City-Leichtathletik-Höhepunkt entwickelt und gilt als das Innsbrucker Sommersport-Highlight unter dem Goldenen Dachl. When the sun goes down, international top athletes vault over every hurdle again in the pole vault and long jump. They are competing in crossfire sequence within breath-taking proximity to the audience again, hoping to qualify for the World Championships and gain a place in the world’s top rankings in 2017. The largest mobile track and field facility in the world was built to be able to stage this popular event in an unusual setting. The exceptional construction on which the event is held has already visited other top destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, Munich and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Theremin-Workshop im Audioversum Theremin workshop at Audioversum Das Theremin ist eines der außergewöhnlichsten Musikinstrumente der Welt, denn es unterscheidet sich wesentlich durch einen ganz bestimmten Faktor von anderen seiner Art: Es wird beim Spielen nicht berührt. Das elektronische Instrument, welches seit 1920 in den unterschiedlichsten Musikgenres Verwendung findet, gilt dadurch als besonders spannend. Für jeden, der es einmal ausprobieren und mehr darüber lernen möchte, stehen Mitte März die Pforten des Audioversums offen. Hier hält Carolina Eyck einen Theremin-Workshop ab. Sie zählt zu den weltbesten und gefragtesten Interpreten des Theremins und gibt weltweit Kurse und Unterricht. Anfänger oder auch Fortgeschrittene können unter ihrer Leitung mit ihren Händen nach der Musik „greifen“. Anschließend an den Workshop werden Carolina Eyck und der Gitarrist Martin Nitsch ein energetisch gefühltes Konzert zum Besten geben. m Frühling laden die Feriendörfer rund um Innsbruck mit ihren Mittelgebirgslagen zu gemütlichen Wanderungen und Spaziergängen ein. Westlich von Innsbruck führt zum Beispiel der Panoramaweg von Mutters, Natters, Götzens, Birgitz und Axams nach Grinzens. Jedes der Dörfer kann als Einstieg gewählt werden. Ruhebänke sind ausreichend vorhanden und geben teilweise schöne Ausblicke auf die Gemeinden des Mittelgebirges, das Inntal, Innsbruck und die Nordkette frei. Im Frühsommer, wenn sich der Schnee ins Hochgebirge zurückzieht, lockt der Innsbrucker Almenweg mit prächtiger Aussicht auf die umliegende Bergwelt. Die südlichen Feriendörfer Ampass, Rinn, Lans, Aldrans, Sistrans, Igls, Patsch und Ellbögen sind ebenfalls durch ein dichtes Netz an Wanderwegen miteinander verbunden. Die sonnigen Wiesen und lichten Wälder am Fuße des Patscherkofels sind ein beliebtes Naherholungsgebiet der Innsbrucker, das sich am besten mit der Straßenbahnlinie Nummer 6 erkunden lässt. You leisurely hike along the mountain ridge on almost flat trails through stone pine trees that are centuries old as far as Tulfes and enjoy the stunning panorama with a view over the Inn valley. The sunny holiday villages at the foot of the Nordkette mountain range beckon all year round with leisurely hiking trails and walking paths for the whole family. The Nordkette range is a popular day trip destination as a result of it facing south. The Nordkettenbahnen cable cars take hikers from the city centre up into the middle of the mountains in just a few minutes. The varied trails around the Hungerburg mountain and up the Nordkette mountains offer spectacular views over the city and surrounding mountains. ■

Von der Bergstation der Hungerburgbahn geht es flach bis zum Gramartboden, ohne größere Steigungen weiter zur Wallfahrtskirche Höttinger Bild und hinunter in den Stadtteil Hötting. Zurück geht es zu Fuß oder mit der Buslinie A. Starting from the Hungerburgbahn cable car top station the trail leads flat as far as Gramartboden without any major climbs on to the Höttinger Bild pilgrimage chapel and down to the Hötting district. Von der Bergstation der Patscherkofelbahn verläuft der breite Steig entlang der Waldgrenze auf über 2.000 m Höhe nach Tulfes. Mit dem Sessellift der Glungezerbahn geht es hinunter ins Dorf und mit dem Postbus wieder zurück nach Igls. The wide climb along the edge of the forest runs from the Patscherkofelbahn cable car top station up to more than 2,000 metres altitude to Tulfes. You can head back down to the village using the Glungezerbahn chairlift and return to Igls by Postbus.

Neben kulinarischen Highlights wie handgemachten Pralinen, Kuchen und Torten gibt es noch etwas „Steileres“ zu entdecken. Aus hochwertiger Kuvertüre, gerösteten Haselnüssen und feinstem Nougat werden hier die „Tiroler Berge“ gefertigt. „Ein Souvenir, das als kleines Mitbringsel jeden an die Tiroler Berge erinnert, wenn er einmal dort oben war“, meint einer der beiden Geschäftsführer, Markus Murauer. Die Besonderheit der kleinen Köstlichkeiten sieht der Mitinhaber der Traditionskonditorei in der extra dafür modellierten Form sowie der sorgfältigen Verarbeitung per Hand. Ebenso legen die Meisterkonditoren viel Wert auf qualitativ hochwertige Rohstoffe, sodass jeder „Berg“ wie von selbst auf der Zunge zergeht. „Um das kleine Geschenk noch wertvoller zu machen, haben wir eine dazu passende Verpackung entwickelt, die ebenfalls die Bergwelt in Tirol darstellen soll“, erklärt Murauer weiters. The co-owner of the traditional confectionery sees the special feature of the little delicacies in the shape modelled especially for this purpose as well as the careful workmanship by hand. The master pastry chefs also attach great much importance to high-quality raw materials, so that every “mountain” melts in your mouth by itself. “In order to make the little present even more valuable, we have developed a suitable package which should also represent the mountain world in Tyrol”, explains Murauer further. The creative delicacy is just the right present to serve as a remembrance of ■ the heart of the Alps!

Wer die Hand lieber am natürlichen Fels und die Nase an der frischen Luft hat, über alpine Erfahrung, sportliche Ausdauer und nicht zuletzt Schwindelfreiheit verfügt, ist in Klettergärten und auf Klettersteigen rund um Innsbruck richtig. Zu den beliebten Kletterzielen zählen das Kühtai und das Sellraintal, die das Ganzjahresangebot der Kletterhallen um ein eisiges Vergnügen erweitern: Im Winter laden aufregende Eiskletterrouten hier zum kerzengeraden Aufstieg. Südseitig ausgerichtet und somit ganzjährig begehbar präsentiert sich die Martinswand bei Zirl. Der markante Kalkstein ist nicht nur von Innsbruck aus gesehen ein Blickfang, mehr als 150 Routen in den Schwierigkeitsgraden 3 bis 9 bieten viel Abwechslung und spektakuläre Aussichten über das Inntal.

Piano für den Anfang

Stärker auf Anfänger und Familien ausgerichtet sind die Klettergärten Stams und Locherboden, die mit perfekter Absicherung, schöner Lage und kindgerechtem Klettervergnügen punkten. Mehrseillängen sind darüber hinaus in der Ehnbachklamm bei Zirl, auf der Hohen Munde und am Karkopf, beide in der Nähe von Telfs, zu finden. Ein Klassiker des Innsbrucker Bergerlebnisses nimmt seinen Ausgang an der Bergstation der Nordkettenbahnen, dem Hafelekar: Von dort führt der Innsbrucker Klettersteig auf einer Länge von 3.300 Metern über sieben Gipfel zum Frau-Hitt-Sattel – kontrastreiche Panoramablicke ins Karwendel und auf die ■ Kletterhauptstadt der Alpen gibt es inklusive!

Besides the high numbers of pros, e.g. due to the European Boulder Championships which were already held in Innsbruck in 2010 and 2015 and are being hosted here again in 2018, climbers from all over the world value the capital’s outdoor climbing on offer in particular. Innsbruck and its holiday villages and the Mieming Plateau & Tirol Mitte boast more than 600 sports climbing routes, six via ferrate, 17 sports climbing parks, two family climbing parks and eight ice climbing routes.

The popular climbing destinations include the Kühtai and Sellrain valley, which expands the climbing halls’ all-year round offer with icy fun: thrilling ice climbing routes here invite you to ascend straight as a die in the winter. The Martinswand face near Zirl is south-facing and can therefore be climbed all year round. The striking limestone is not just an eye-catching sight seen from Innsbruck but more than 150 routes in levels of difficulty 3 to 9 provide plenty of variety and spectacular views over the Inn valley.

Das Kühtai, 35 km von Innsbruck entfernt, ist der höchstgelegene Ski-Weltcup-Ort Österreichs und zählt damit zu den schneesichersten Skigebieten Tirols. Wunderteppiche, Babylift und KidsPark begeistern die Kleinen und im Funpark kommen auch größere Kinder und Jugendliche voll auf ihre Kosten. ■

Muttereralmpark: for the whole family

A veritable winter paradise for children presents itself only ten minutes away from Innsbruck. The Muttereralmpark skiing area is geared entirely towards the needs of families with children. 15 kilometres of groomed slope, a fun park including kiddie park as well as two ski schools and restaurants offer everything children and their parents wish for on a skiing holiday.

Nordkette: high above the city

The Nordkette mountain range not only offers one of the steepest ski routes in the Alps, but also a gently sloping terrain that is suitable for beginners and which does not present itself at first glance from below. But many locals have actually also made their first turns in the snow at the children’s skiing area and at the Frau Hitt lift on the Seegrube mountainside. The Nordkette cable cars bring skiers and snowboarders in 20 minutes directly from the city centre up to an altitude of 2,000 metres. If the downhill run to the valley is too steep, visitors can ride back down the mountainside by cable car.

Kühtai: also for the smallest ones

Kühtai, 35 km away from Innsbruck, is Austria’s highest situated skiing world cup location and is therefore one of Tyrol’s most snow-secure skiing areas. Magic carpet lifts, a baby lift and a kids’ park delight the little ones, and bigger children and adolescents also get their full money’s worth in the fun park. ■

Dom zu St. Jakob Cathedral of St. James

um ersten Mal 1180 erwähnt, erhebt sich der „Innsbrucker Dom“, wie der Dom zu St. Jakob oft genannt wird, majestätisch über die Dächer der Bergstadt. Er war Teil der wichtigsten mittelalterlichen Wallfahrt der Christen, nämlich des Jakobswegs. Anfang des 18. Jahrhunderts musste der Dom aufgrund schwerer Beschädigungen während eines Erdbebens neu errichtet werden und wurde sogar vom berühmten deutschen Maler Albrecht Dürer in einem Aquarell verewigt. Nicht nur von außen, auch im Inneren sorgt das Bauwerk für staunende Gesichter. Hochbarocke Deckenfresken zeigen Szenen aus dem Leben des heiligen Jakobus und auch der unverkennbare Glockenklang macht den Charme des architektonischen Kunstwerks aus. Höhepunkt ist das bedeutende Kunstwerk von Lucas Cranach d. Ä. – das Gnadenbild „Maria Hilf“ avancierte zum beliebtesten Muttergottesbild in den Alpen und wurde in der ganzen Welt zahlreich kopiert. Im linken Seitenflügel lässt sich außerdem das Grabmal Erzherzogs Maximilian III. bewundern. Das vielgerühmte Bronzekunstwerk wurde bereits um 1620 errichtet. Die beste Aussicht auf das aufsehenerregende Innenleben der Kirche genossen Herrscher und Stiftsdamen in den Emporen im Chorraum, die direkt mit der angrenzenden Hofburg verbunden sind. Für einzigartige Klänge sorgt neben der imposanten Orgel auch die Mariahilferglocke in der Westempore. Diese wurde 1846 in der historischen Glockengießerei Grassmayr gegossen und gilt als zweitgrößte Glocke Tirols. Zusätzlich erklingt täglich um die Mittagszeit das 57 Glocken umfassende Friedensspiel. Eine Sehenswürdigkeit, die mit ■ allen Sinnen entdeckt werden kann!

First documented in 1180, “Innsbruck Cathedral”, also known as the Cathedral of St. James, rises majestically above the mountain city’s rooftops. It was part of the Christians’ most important pilgrim path in the Middle Ages, namely The Way of St. James. At the start of the 18th century, the cathedral had to be rebuilt as a result of serious damage during an earthquake and was even immortalised in a watercolour painting by the famous German artist Albrecht Dürer. The structure is not just amazing from outside but inside too. High Baroque ceiling frescoes show scenes from Saint James’ life and the unmistakeable pealing of the bells also gives this architectural work of art its charm. The highlight is the important work of art by Lucas Cranach the Elder – the “Maria Hilf” religious image became the most venerated picture of the Mother of God in the Alps and has been copied many times all over the world. The tomb of Archduke Maximilian III of Austria can also be admired in the left wing. The much acclaimed bronze work of art was built around 1620. The best view of the church’s spectacular interior was enjoyed by rulers and canonesses in the galleries in the choir room, which as directly linked to the adjacent Hofburg. Besides the impressive organ, the Mariahilfglocke bell in the western gallery provides unique sounds. This was cast at the historical Glockengießerei Grassmayr bell foundry in 1846 and is considered to be the second largest bell in Tyrol. In addition, the peace carillon consisting of 57 bells sounds every day around midday. ■ A sight that can be explored with all the senses!
