AUTUMN 2016

I NS PI R I NG N EW DE S I GN I T E M S F ROM KÄH LE R

Welcome to our catalogue of new items for Autumn 2016. It gives us great pleasure to share them with you on the following pages. These beautiful designs are the fruit of a great deal of work, and we hope you will be as excited about seeing them as we were when creating them. This season we are expanding our popular ranges with classics in new sizes and colours. For example, the Hammershøi vases will now be available both in new miniature versions and in a brand new plum colour. While the warm shades will be a beautiful complement to the branches and flowers of autumn, they are also very up to the minute. Everywhere one looks, warm, natural tones are very fashionable in interiors right now. Annual festivals are always synonymous with new designs at Kähler, and Christmas 2016 is no exception. New, stylish designs will be added to the Nobili and Omaggio ranges, including a variety of candle holders and candlesticks for both tea lights and taper candles, together with a small bowl and elegant Christmas baubles. For more than 175 years, close collaboration with talented Danish craftspersons and designers has been a cornerstone in the development of Kähler. We still retain this fundamental value today. So we take great pleasure in introducing the latest addition to our team of designers: Stine Goya (DK). For Kähler, she has created, Fiora, a range of ceramics, rich in unique reliefs and patterns, and characterful silhouettes. Fiora is unique in both idiom and choice of colour, and harks back clearly to the proud decorative traditions, which have been a mainstay of our history, since our foundation in 1839.

We hope our new collection will give you great delight. Enjoy! With warm wishes from, everyone at Kähler

FIOR A DESIGN STINE GOYA

For more than 175 years, Kähler has been working together with some of the most trend-setting artists and craftspersons of the times to create ceramic designs for the contemporary home. This autumn Kähler is launching the fruits of an exciting, innovative collaboration with Stine Goya, a Danish designer with an international reputation.Stine Goya has created a range of ceramics: Fiora. It is rich in unique patterns. unique silhouettes and bold choices of colour and includes a dish, pots, a wall vase and classic vases. True to Kähler’s traditions, Stine Goya has made extensive use of historic techniques, but also of variability and the freedom to play, which are so characteristic of clay. The idiom of Fiora is strong and prominent. The powerful silhouettes and large volume of the range were inspired by Kähler’s history from the 1950s-1960s, when they experimented with the size of vases, bowls and candlesticks. The distinctive relief, which is a hallmark of the range, clearly harks back to the proud decorative traditions, which have been a cornerstone of Kähler’s history for more than 175 years.

OMBR I A DESIGN ANDERS ARHØJ

This autumn Kähler is introducing a host of new design items for the home in the popular Ombria stoneware range. Its innovative glazes and simple idiom draw inspiration from the rough, wild Nordic landscape. The range is designed by Anders Arhøj. For autumn 2016 he has created four new designs in the range, all hand-glazed to achieve the distinctive surface effect. With two flowerpots, a small vase and candle holders for both pillar and tea light candles, he finds a place for this Nordic ceramic, which we know best in a food context, in the other rooms of the home. Since 1839, Kähler has been creating innovative, beautiful but also func tional pottery. The Ombria stoneware range clearly reveals its roots in terms of collaboration, design and the technique being used. In other words, the range reflects our long tradition of craftsmanship, in which art and cera mics are strongly linked – in essence, design and function.

GL OBO DESIGN DORTHE HELM

With its chubby, organic and unique idiom, counteracted by a rough, masculine surface, Kähler’s Globo candlestick has quickly become a popular designer object in many a Scandinavian home. This characterful candlestick with its soft, organic silhouette, was designed by Dorthe Helm and her team of designers. This autumn we are launching Globo in a new snow-white shade, a gentle contrast to the dark days and evenings of the Nordic region. The unique quality of Globo stems partly from the candlestick’s highly distinctive idiom, and partly from its characteristic glaze, which lends the surface a rough, natural look. The new, snow-white Globo candlestick comes in mini, small and medium sizes. All are for a single taper candle and can be combined beautifully with the existing terracotta and granite grey candlesticks. Both the design’s contrasts and the beautiful glaze on the candlestick are a perfect symbol of our history, in which innovation, art and technology have always been paramount.

UR BANI A DESIGN METTE BACHE AND BARBAR A BENDIX BECKER

This autumn we are launching two brand new light houses in the classic, highly popular Urbania range, which is inspired by the creative districts and historic architecture of the city. One house is inspired by the tall, spacious warehouses of the Brooklyn district in New York. The other house is a free interpretation of the small studio buildings one finds in arty districts all over the world, complete with skylights and small, quirky nooks and crannies. Urbania light houses feature a very special design, in which the building’s rigorous silhouette creates room for creativity in the design of every single window, all of which are painstakingly cut out by hand. As always, the emission of light from the houses creates playful clusters of light and shadow, wherever you place them. In both new designs, the designers have played with the sizes, positions and shapes of the windows, so depending the angle, from which you view the little house, the angles and light change. It is this combination of discipline and play that creates ambience and emphasises the quality of Urbania, harking back to our 175 years of history, during which many famous designers have been invited into our creative universe.

NOBILI DESIGN METTE BACHE AND BARBAR A BENDIX BECKER

Nobili is Kähler’s classic range of stylish, ceramic Christmas decorations, inspired by Nordic winter forests. For this year’s festive season we are launching six new, snow-white versions of tea light holders and pendants, designed, like the rest of the range, by Mette Bache and Barbara Bendix Becker. The six new design in the range includes three Christmas trees and three snowballs in various sizes. One of the snowballs is a pendant. All of them have room for a classic tea light candle. The Nobili candle holders and pendant are decorated by hand with a myriad little holes, which create an elegant emission of light. They are then dipped in a vibrant, reactive glaze as a contrast to the pure, unglazed ceramic surface which rounds off the base of each design The Nobili range honours Kähler’s 175-year+ tradition of craftsmanship, in which the interplay between ceramic and glaze has been a principal feature for generations.

OM AGGIO DESIGN DITTE RECKWEG AND JELENA SCHOU NORDENTOFT

Annual festivals are always synonymous with new designs at Kähler, and Christmas 2016 is no exception. We are introducing the classic, highly popular Omaggio stripes in an elegant, understated design in the form of Christmas baubles, a small bowl and three different, hourglass-shaped taper candlesticks. As always, the design is modern, soft and harmonious, while the hand-painted stripes are in a very special, delicate, pearl shade, which reflects the glow of the light beautifully and naturally. The range is designed by the Stilleben duo, Ditte Reckweg and Jelena Schou Nordentoft who, true to tradition, have reinterpreted the popular stripes and given them life and, in this case, light. The light, understated design of the decorative baubles, bowl and candlesticks is a perfect complement to any personal style and décor. The light, elegant expression will look stunning in combination with either modern or classic Christmas decorations.
