Frantz Longhi, owner of K채hler Design A/S
WELCOME TO KÄHLER Explore our tribute to good craftsmanship With a historical linkage to our 175 year authentic universe of art, craftsmanship and quality, the 2014 catalogue presents our new, innovative designs of the season. You will see a colourful and accommodating collection of designs with a distinctive Nordic DNA to be interpreted and used according to taste, making the collection versatile. Kähler’s unique colour spectrum ranges from delicate pastel tones to deep and powerful shades, and combining these with the trendy and vivid shapes of the products, you have all the tools needed to personalize the interior décor of your home. We welcome you to realise your dream of exploring your own interpretation of design in cooperation with the best designers and ceramic artists in Denmark. This year, you will meet another award-winning and internationally renowned designer, Ursula Munch-Petersen, as we relaunch the design classic, Ursula. The much-loved and acknowledged tableware line perfectly complements the colourful and unique designs that already characterize Kähler Design, and we look forward to sharing this unique part of our Danish cultural heritage. In line with our mission of bringing art to the people, we revive one of the most popular and recognized tableware lines in Danish ceramic design. In recent years, craftsmen of a different kind have become part of the Kähler family, namely our talented and inspiring Danish chefs, who constantly strive to give you a unique Kähler experience. This is a natural extension of our philosophy and we hope that you will enjoy every element of the Kähler universe. In the restaurants, you will be able to enjoy modern interpretations of traditional, regional dishes skillfully created to provide both a visual and taste sensation. You will soon discover an ingenious amalgamation of gastronomy and craftsmanship adapted to modern times. If you have not had the chance to visit Kähler in Tivoli, Copenhagen’s new design restaurant, you can look forward to an exciting Kähler-experience, where the very best of Danish design and food meet. Last, but not least, we are proud to announce that Kähler’s historical pottery, the starting point of the Kähler adventure, once again belongs to Kähler Design, and we also look forward to welcoming you here!
Greetings from all of us at Kähler Design Frantz Longhi, owner of Kähler Design

OMAGGIO HOME DESIGN DITTE RECKWEG & JELENA SCHOU NORDENTOFT
The well-known, hand-painted brushstrokes give the Omaggio interior décor line a stylish expression, which is in direct contrast to the simple and pure shape of the collection. The clean and classic design of the Omaggio line thereby passes on a strong Danish ceramic arts tradition. A tradition that Kähler has succeeded in upholding, especially with the Omaggio line that characterizes classic ceramic art in a contemporary light and offers you the possibility of adding a touch of timelessness to your home. The bold brushstrokes make you picture the craftsman with the brush, and how the paint brush meticulously brings the ceramics to life, representing the unbroken connection to craftsmanship throughout time. The interior décor line is available in the classic and graphic black/ white colour combination, but also in a series of more light and bright shades that exude a trendy and stylish passion for colours. The Omaggio line comprises vases of six different sizes, bowls of two different sizes, a stylish platter and the classic candle holders in the three different sizes. Mix and match all the designs of the Omaggio line using your favourite colours, and they will beautifully complement your personal interior decorating style.

OMAGGIO KITCHEN DESIGN DITTE RECKWEG & JELENA SCHOU NORDENTOFT
The Omaggio kitchen line is a stylish range made in a classic idiom that suits any kitchen. The stripes will brighten up your table, while at the same time, the pure shapes will sustain the simple and elegant look you wish to create for most occasions. The pure colours can be combined in any way you wish, not least because of the black stripe that is repeated in all colour combinations. The colours brighten up your everyday life, and therefore the Omaggio line has the potential to become a modern classic. The Omaggio kitchen line consists of thermo cups, plates, breakfast bowls, milk jugs, sugar bowls, teapots, coffee pots and a storage jar in two different sizes - everything with a graphic black/white look. Additionally, there is a thermo cup in six different vivid colours and a coffee pot with brown stripes. The Omaggio kitchen line is hand-decorated with the well-known stripes that unite all of the products across colours and shapes.

URSULA DESIGN URSULA MUNCH-PETERSEN
This year, Kähler relaunches the beloved and timeless Ursula tableware – a renowned classic with a timeless appeal. Ursula will fit perfectly into the vivacious and unique designs that already characterize Kähler, and we look forward to passing on this inimitable part of Danish cultural heritage. In order to achieve our mission of bringing art to the people, Kähler has taken a decision to revive one of the most recognised and acclaimed tableware lines in Danish ceramic design - Ursula. The popular jugs with the distinctive handles and pointed spouts are already an integrated part of many homes. By incorporating a new and contemporary twist that makes it fit perfectly into the Nordic interior design culture, Kähler re-introduces a forgotten treasure at affordable prices.

MARMITTA DESIGN SĂ˜REN THYGESEN
Marmitta is a classic roaster in an elegant black design, where the top and bottom mirror each other. The roaster is an indispensable tool when cooking tasty dishes in the oven. The lid will intensify and preserve the good taste in your food, and that makes Marmitta perfect for baking bread and slow simmer dishes. The porous structure of the clay and the lid effectively encapsulate the contents and seal in the heat, making the bread, meat or fish crispy and juicy at the same time. Marmitta allows you the luxury of cooking your meal over a long time, and thus you may spend the afternoon taking a walk in the woods or setting a beautiful table for your guests while the delightful smell fills the kitchen.

DESIGN RECKWEG & NORDENTOFT
LOVE SONG DESIGN DITTE RECKWEG & JELENA SCHOU NORDENTOFT
Love Song is a unique line of stoneware vases, which serve as the perfect wedding present for design lovers. The beautiful vases are produced of raw and untreated stoneware, matching today’s design trends of natural materials perfectly. The stoneware vases are thematically interconnected, as they are decorated with the lyrics from four of the most iconic love songs of all times: “Love me Tender”, “All You Need is Love”, “It Had to be You” and “I got You Babe”. There is a certain dynamic between the warm and bright wording and the raw and natural material that instantly catches the eye. The rough surface contrasts perfectly with the transparent glaze on the inside and the vases decorate beautifully, both in a tableau or placed separately. Love Song comes with a glazed inner side in several bright and elegant shades and in chalk-white.

PRIMAVERA DESIGN MARIANNE NIELSEN
One object – multiple functions. This is the idea behind the Primavera series, which consists of beautiful, stylish trees. When the vases are not full of flowers, you may turn them upside down and make the fine silhouettes of the trees stand out. They are either vases or small, sculptural objects, depending on which way they are turned. The shape is characterised by rings on all four vases, which creates a connection between them, allowing them to be combined freely. The size of the trees matches the Avvento series, which was also designed by Marianne Nielsen, and when you combine the trees from the two series, you may create your own forest tableaus on your table or the window sill. The Primavera series comprises four trees, each in a unique shade of green.

BOTANICA DESIGN METTE BACHE & BARBARA BENDIX BECKER
The beautiful, voluminous Botanica vases of faience were designed for the modern home - a series of ceramics, which appreciates the delicate balance between the functional aspect and the aesthetics of the wonderful world of ceramics. The Botanica vases are available in a number of beautiful, but also mysterious and almost indefinable colours, and with regards to the wonderful colour universe Barbara Bendix Becker says: ”The colours we have worked with contain the diversity of all greys and thus the vases reflect the colours of the flowers you choose and in particular the room you place them in”. As a practical detail, the vases are designed with grooves at the bottom, which make it easy to arrange stems and twigs to your liking.

BOTANICA MINI DESIGN METTE BACHE & BARBARA BENDIX BECKER
The very Nordic and transparent colour spectrum of the beautiful, large Botanica vases have gained much popularity and already decorate in many homes. The Botanica mini is a playful miniature version of the already existing vases and they are in perfect harmony with the miniature design trends of the season. There is a fine correlation between the enigmatic colour universe and the clear organic shape of the vases, which makes the little vases so decorative in a modern home. The matching glazes graciously accentuate the beauty of the ceramic material, which hereby makes an aesthetic tableau. The simple colours and shapes add something raw and natural to the lovely line of miniature vases, and the result is an unconventional and authentic Nordic feel. The vases also come in a mixed pack.

Kähler’s new line of lidded jars, Bellino, is already at the top of many women’s wish lists and the line is now being extended into other delicious and sophisticated colour spectra. Combining the simple and balanced shape of the Bellino design with the deep fall shades adds a true and genuine look to the jars. The colour palette used is natural and Nordic with deep, graceful shades of purple, grey and brown. The latest colour spectrum comprises two different colour schemes: the delicate and sophisticated pastels of light grey, rose, and ice blue, and the deep and powerful colours of slate grey, green and dark green. These colours lift the Bellino line to new heights by enhancing its usability and sculptural value. The Bellino lidded jars are fantastic as decorative storage and can also be used to create an elegant tableau on your desk, in the bathroom or on a shelf in the bedroom. They may serve as jewellery boxes to store your favourite items – stow your earrings on your bedside table – or as storage for your makeup in the bathroom, or simply accent your living room with the elegant ceramic jars.

STORIES OF EVE DESIGN LOUISE HINDSGAVL
A figure tradition dating back 100 years is resumed. For quite some time, we have focused on furniture and small interior items when investing in our home. But now, the urge to tell a personal story, including all the odd anecdotes, is felt within the four walls of our house. We have the energy to focus on things that have no practical use, but satisfy our desire for decorative items, for provocative art, which puts new cultural radicalism back on the agenda. Historically, Kähler is known for its figures. And now, Kähler has teamed up with artist and ceramicist Louise Hindsgavl to carry this somewhat forgotten tradition into a new and modern era in a fine mix of contemporary trends and the always titillating provocations of the arts. Also, Kähler has a vision to make art accessible – and affordable.

FIDUCIA DESIGN LOUISE CAMPBELL
With Fiducia, the vase and candlestick have been rethought into a stylishly exciting and experimental design object, where the individual parts may be combined in many different ways by means of the magnets positioned on their small ‘arms’. The design is clean, simple and strong in its expression and fits perfectly in modern homes. The Fiducia design is characterised by chubby and naivistic shapes, reminding you of charming tumblers. The playful expression makes Fiducia an eye candy, especially when you add a candle and flowers in season - place it on the window sill or include it in your special occasion table setting. Fiducia is the Italian word for trust – and this also characterises these vases and candlesticks: They belong together as a family and cannot stand alone. When standing on the table, they seem to almost hover because of the special design.

UNIT DESIGN JONAS TRAMPEDACH & BIRGITTE DUE MADSEN
A chair one day and a table the next – and always with room to put away items and keep a well-organised home. Kähler and the designer duo Birgitte Due Madsen and Jonas Trampedach have thought out of the box to create the ceramic multifunctional Unit furniture. A bold mix of materials and function and one of a kind on the market, with its clear, Scandinavian style, that goes well with many different interior designs. The ceramic furniture is a natural development in Kähler’s endeavours to challenge the ceramic material to find new applications and thus create surprising designs. For the first time, Kähler has created a piece of furniture – which is also a unique design object.

ORA DESIGN JONAS TRAMPEDACH & BIRGITTE DUE MADSEN
With the Ora clock hanging on your wall, you can enjoy the way the convex figures cast discreet shadows along the rim of the circle. The contrast between the ceramic material and the perspex that the hands are made of gives a modern edge to the simple wall clock. The clean and modern style with no extraneous details makes Ora a both functional and stylish product. The purity that characterises the style blurs the traditional barrier between the masculine and the feminine. Ora has a sculptural touch that appeals to both genders, and the clock is not just a practical arrangement that tells time, it is an integrated part of the interior design of your home. Ora is available in six different colours and comes in two sizes; Ă˜ 200 and Ă˜ 300.

ILLUMINA DESIGN MICHAEL GEERTSEN
The Illumina chandle holder is a reinterpretation of the classical, Scandinavian chamberstick. It has a nostalgic recognisability, as we are already familiar with the shape, and the glazed faience material simply perfects the expression of the chamberstick. The simple shape and the powerful colours bring the historical iconic design back to life. When you look at the Illumina candle holder displayed on your dresser or your dinner table, its classic and modern shape will give you the feeling of the past and the present being fused into one object. Passing on craft traditions to new products is a rare gift that K채hler greatly values. The Illumina candle holder is available in white, red and dark green.

Then and now
KÄHLER DESIGN Kähler Design is a modern and innovative, yet very tradition-bound, ceramic arts company. Every day we strive to combine our strong cultural heritage with the ambition to be market leader, both nationally and internationally. We take the very best from this artistic ceramic heritage and interpret it in a modern way. The result is incipient new ceramic arts that timelessly appeal to a broad audience, who then interpret the items in their own individual way. 100 years ago, renowned artists like Thorvald Bindesbøll, Svend Hammershøi and Kai Nielsen explored, challenged and moulded the amazing ceramics at Kähler. Today, we see Jeanette List Amstrup, the designer duo Stilleben and the ceramic artist Louise Hindsgavl passing on the tradition – with the ambition to bring art to the people. Kähler aspires to be the most innovative Scandinavian ceramics brand that makes the consumers’ dreams about Nordic design and Nordic cuisine come true. Today, Kähler is much more than a ceramic arts company. The world of Kähler comprises several restaurants in Aarhus and Copenhagen, the most recent being Kähler in Tivoli - a concept restaurant that combines Nordic design with gastronomy - merging into a unique Kähler experience. Next step is the old historical workshops at Kählersbakken in Næstved that Kähler recently acquired. Our goal is to rebuild the premises and create an inspiring setting for the development of future Kähler designs, and we look forward to welcoming you to the modern tale of contemporary ceramics and design.
