in between Photographer: Claudia Raymat Model: Stefanie V MUA & Hair: Edlyn Herrmann Stylist: Sabina Tutova Location: Brussels, Belgium

C Q: Where do you come from and why did you start shooting photography? A: I come from La Havana, Cuba. I was born in a tiny island where the summer is eternal and arts are everywhere. I started taking pics cause there is nothing in this world that can move me more than a photograph. I wanted to make others nostalgics like me. Q: Where is home for you?

A: Home from me is where my happiness is, So if I have my husband my camera and my family and friends around I can call any place home.

Q: Do you work as a professional photographer or is photography mainly a hobby for you? A: Well right now is just a hobby but for sure I will love to live doing what I love.

Q: I love the composition in your photos. Do you decide the composition before you start working with the model or do you adjust the composition after everything else looks great? A: I adjust the composition after everything looks great I let the things flow. Q: Do you work alone or with a team?

A: Always with a team, even when is just me and a model i consider us as a team, but yes I always try to have a MUA, Hair Stylist and Stylist, with a bit of everyone you can get great results. Q: How would you describe your style?

A: I will describe it as a free style I cant keep one style for me I have to try everything that awakes my eyes and make my heart beat. Q: What equipment do you prefer to use on a shoot?

A: My camera Canon 60D and maybe my digi dĂśrr lamps kit 5500k

Kai’outi Magazine Page 2

Q:Is there anyone or anything that has been inspirational to you? A: Yes of course I think it will be my mum and my husband they are always there for me and supporting me when im down and i dont wanna keep fighting for my dreams, they make me stand again and keep shooting. Q: You have such beautiful models, where do you find them? Do you pick them out for a particular photo shoot in mind? A: Normally I have already a model in mind for the theme of the current shooting, Sometimes I already have them in my contact, some other times I make a casting call or I contact some agencies as Dominique Models, Jill Models, Imm, Models Office and Flag Models in Belgium, all of them full of talented beautiful models. Q: Lighting. Do you use flashes or natural lighting? A: Do you prefer one over the other? Always natural light, if isent possible I always use digi dörr lamps kit 5500k, just a few times Ive tried with flashes but is definetly not my first option. Q: Tell us one random thing about you. A: I’m married and I’m crazy in love with my husband. I adore Italian food, I madly love animals and I have a funny bunny who thinks he is a dog named Pelusa and I wanna grow old in a house with my husband, next to the beach watching the sunset and taking pics of it everyday for the rest of times. Ok, here are some fun questions... 1) drink- Mojito 2) Artist- Camilla Akrans 3) Band- Maroon 5 4) Place- Amsterdam 5) Movie- The Lord of the Rings

Taxil Hoax My name is Lola Jane and I’m the owner and designer for Taxil Hoax, an occult jewelry and accessories line. I’ve loved creating art since I can first remember and my passion for dark history, the natural world, wild creatures, and the occult have always been a heavy influence in my life. It only made sense that I tie my passions together by creating wearable artifacts that are reminiscent of another time. Where is home for you? I’m currently living in beautiful Lake Tahoe, but I’ll always be a bay area gal. I like to move around a bit. It’s always exiting to experience new places. Taxil Hoax, How did you come up with that name? Is there a meaning behind it? When I started the brand, it was important that the name have historical context as well as sound awesome. I had a list of names, but Taxil Hoax stuck because of its story and connection to Free Masonry, which runs strong in my family. Leo Taxil was a French writer from the 19th century who was responsible for the most shocking and satanic accusations ever penned against the Free Masons. For many years he wrote books and articles exposing the masons for what they supposedly really were: devil worshipping, pornographic, blasphemers. He gained many followers, and even had an audience with Pope Leo XIII. Then in 1897 he suddenly confessed that the whole thing had been a hoax. The masons believed that he had done it to show how gullible Catholics were, but others believe that he was threatened by a high up masonic leader and forced to recant. Whatever the case, it’s a cool story, and its part of the reason that satanic conspiracies are still tied to the Masons today. What types of mediums do you work with? I like to work mostly with metal, stones, antiques, and anything that has an old feel. Most of what I use is vintage and antique, allowing me to stick with my practice of reuse, recycle and restore, plus it adds to the ancient touch that I love so much. Part of the fun is going out and finding the elements. It’s like going on a treasure hunt. Living in the mountains, I often use materials that I find on walks. My house is on the most serene meadow with all kinds of treasures like old wood, metal scraps, Indian artifacts, and bones. I also spend a lot of time going to estate sales, flea markets, thrift stores, and antique shops to find new material.

What’s your favorite piece of work that you have created? My favorite piece would probably have to be a large over-the-top crown that was made from rusty old wire, driftwood, crystals, and rosary chain. It reminded me of an uncovered relic once worn by a pagan goddess. It’s always cool when you can take old remnants and elements from nature and give them a new life. Where do you find inspiration? I draw a lot from history, especially the dark and mysterious aspects. I feel like history is my escape from reality where I can dream of more interesting times. Every time I read about a specific historical era, it inspires me to incorporate different things from that period. I also find the occult and symbology fascinating and often times conjure up ways to use different aspects in my work. What advice do you have for aspiring artists? Follow your dreams and never give up on what you love. Sometimes the hardest struggles lead to the most beautiful things. What are you doing when you’re not creating? I recently finished up an Environmental Studies degree at SF state. Now that that’s out of the way, I’m able to spend more time playing in the art room. When I’m not creating, I’m usually traveling, exploring, hiking, reading, or playing with baby animals. There is a local wildlife rescue where I live, and I spend a lot of my time helping to care for all kinds of critters, including baby black bears. We rehabilitate them in order to be re released into their original habitat. It’s definitely the most rewarding experience I’ve ever gotten to be a part of. What is your favorite… Color: black Animal: lemur Season: Spring Movie: The Three Lives of Thomasina Book: The Collected Poems of Emily Dickinson Band: The Doors
