Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a deaf photographer with a passion for beauty and darkness.
Where is home for you? In the south of Sweden. We lives in an tiny apartment in Lund with props from floor to roof and lots of cats and books.
What first got you into photography? I had social phobia and it was really hard for me to meet people. But behind my camera I could reach out. It was like a layer between me and the reality. And the more I photographed, and the more people I met made the phobia fade away (even if it›s still there, but not at all the same as before). How would you describe your style? I search for darkness in my photos. They can be romantic but still has a dark core. And I think I promote a natural and healthy ideal with very different models.
What equipment do you prefer to use? I use my beloved Nikon D800 for the dry shots and my Nikon CoolPix (called Coolio) for the ones under water. I am not a fan of flashes, instead I use natural lights and flashlights.
What type of preparation do you do before a shoot? A couple of hours before the shoots I sit down and dive down in the wonderful world of Tumblr. I just let the inspiration flood over me until I have an idea that is unique and will forward the models beauty. I choose cloths and props and prepare the makeup (I do all that by myself). Then I just clean the cameras and wait for the models to arrive to drink tea and mess about. Where do you find your inspiration? My fav music artist is the Swedish singer Joakim Thåström. I usually use his song lyrics to create my art. Every title is from the lyrics. It force me to think “inside the box” (something I need cause otherwise it would be more chaos than it already is). Besides from Thåström I have a lot of photo buddies from PhotoVogue who inspire me and help me develop my art. Kai’outi Magazine Page 1

Lighting. Do you use flashes or natural lighting? Do you prefer one over the other? I am pretty poor and when I started photography I did not afford flashes. I had to work with what I had home and that was usual lights from IKEA. By the time I could afford flashes I was already in love with my way to photograph. So I prefer natural lighting and daylight. Film or digital, which one do you prefer? Of the same reason as above I have not been able to afford to photograph with film. Digital is easy and cheap. I love that I can call a model over, do a shot and have photos to work with after a couple of hours. Is there anyone or anything that has been inspirational to you? Jan Saudek was the first photographer that really got a grip of me. I loved his colors and his use of different sizes of models. Still do. Do you have a favorite location to shoot at? (like a secret location? magical location?) My little Eden can be everywhere. I love to photograph under the summer and spring in the nature. I use water in any kind I can find. Duck ponds, pools, seas, lakes ..... Where can our readers find you on the web? My webpage (hogabophotography.com) under construction right now, but this is the place where it will be. It is also a page where you can find links to my portfolio at Photovogue and at Facebook. Ok, here are some fun random questions, just answer with your favorites for the following: Drink: Fresh pressed orange juice Artist : Joakim Thåström Photographer: Tim walker of course but also Ana Mereuta (who is a model I did a session with last time I was in Italy, who also have started to photograph and have a talent that will take her anywhere. Model: My own muses. Emelie Hansson and Daphne Lenninger to mention some of them Instagram, Facebook or Twitter: Facebook Band: I really like a jazz band called Blue train Place: Skån

“Static thoughts and Floral Stained Dreams” Tell us a little about yourself: My name is Kaylin Amabile, I have been fueled by my passion for photography since high school, soaking up inspiration from everyday life and creating stories out of the quiet moments at 3 am when characters seem to create themselves. Where is home for you? Tampa, FL. What first got you into photography? Photography has a ways been something I was surrounded by as a child, to this day I have countless albums and memories from time spent in front of a camera at family functions or afternoon play time, (which I am so grateful for!) It wasn’t until high school that I realized I had the power to create images and capture people and life in the way that I have always seen it. How would you describe your style? A floral daze with a darkened undertone. What equipment do you prefer to use? Right now I shoot with my trusty Nikon and assortment of lenses I’ve collected throughout the years but I do have a Yashica Mat-124G that I am hoping becomes apermanent member of my camera bag as I start to pursue film this year. Lighting. Do you use flashes or natural lighting? Do you prefer one over the other? I am a natural light gal, through and through. As I have experimented and pushed my comfort zone this past year I have used off camera flash, continuous light and even strobes once or twice, and those have their benefits and purpose as well, but to me the sun creates an authentic feeling that is unparralled- and we get plenty of it here in Florida! Is there anyone or anything that has been inspirational to you? I try to draw inspiration from my surroundings. Music has always been a big influence, favorite songs and the memories attached to them have birthed some of my best work. Dreams are another. I also have several photographers (some I am lucky enough to call friends!) that are a constant inspiration to me as well with their hard work & soul speaking images. Do you have a favorite shoot you have collaborated on? I get to work with so many talented people that help bring my mental images to life, it would be nearly impossible for me to pick a favorite! All my shoots are truly special to me in their own way! We see you use Polaroid film. Can you tell us a little bit about your style and use of it? I just recently started a series called, “Instant Imaginations” where I try to magnify each moment by giving it its own private world, of sorts. I actually was just gifted from a dear friend of mine a Polaroid Spectra as well, so I am looking forward to using that soon! Where can our readers find you on the web? Several places! Come see me on Facebook. Thank you Kai’outi for featuring me!

I feel the need to create intimate images, to share a feeling, a certain story. When I make self-portraits it’s really about sharing a part of myself, letting people into my world, into my thoughts.

Tell us a little about yourself. My name is Camille, I’m 21 year old, I am a fashion photographer living and working in Paris, and I just got accepted in the internship of my dreams!
Where is home for you? I live in Paris, so I would say Paris, but I don’t feel really “home” in this city yet ... I however really felt good back when I was in NYC.
What first got you into photography? Some random shots taken by me of my bestfriend. We used to take pictures of each other into “themed” shootings, it was more silly than fashion, but that’s when I started to love taking pictures of people.
Are you formally trained? Yes! I just graduated in June from a 3 years studies in photography here in Paris.
What equipment do you prefer to use? I use what I have, which is mostly a Canon 5D Mark II and a 50mm 1.4, but I would kill for a 85mm 1.2 right now! I also love using an old polaroid and a Canon AE-1 for shootings (both analogs.)
How would you describe your style? Right now I am a bit confused on what I do, what I like to photograph etc., but from my previous work I can say that I have this tendency to shoot exclusively women, I love femininity, I think feminine beauty is something extremely graceful. I also am a very sensitive person, therefore I like to photograph this sensibility, putting these women into stories I made up for the shootings. But in some simple words I’d say: romantic, soft, girly sometimes, sensitive, elegant.
Lighting. Do you use flashes or natural lighting? Do you prefer one over the other? I really am into natural lighting, it goes better with my style of photography, but being in winter and cold outside right now, I am shooting in studio. It isn’t quite the same, and the atmosphere you create depends uniquely on how you will put your lightings. Since I’m a quite new to this I think I really need to improve in order to really enjoy shooting with flashes!

You live in Paris, some say it’s the fashion capital of the world. How does living in Paris influence your work? Fashion surely does influence my work, since I work as a fashion photographer. But also Paris is a really beautiful city, with a personality, so many places into the city that you can only know if you live there, or shortcuts via some pretty ways etc., I think Paris influence my work in words of inspiration, I cannot stop but being astonished by the beauty of some buildings of the city. Even if I prefer shootings in the nature, I think unconsciously it influences my work.
What does fashion mean to you? Fashion is part of the story you create as a photographer. The model, location, make up and hair are also a part of the story. In order to get your story when you want it, you need to have all of the elements perfectly adjusted to recreate an original atmosphere. I am also very sensitive to high fashion, I consider those dresses as purely art, they also are part of my main inspiration. I am still a little girl who dream of princesses in my head, I love being inspired by those pieces of art created by high fashion designers.
Is there anyone or anything that has been inspirational to you? Everything that I said earlier as inspiration is, of course inspirational, but I always nourish myself with books, movies, short movies, photographs, exactly everything that I can find beautiful, emotional, sensitive, evrything that moves me - even music. As a who I am fan #1 of Tim Walker.
Do you have a favorite shoot you have collaborated on? As most of photographers I tend to hate the pictures I take, right after I finished edit and retouch them haha. But among this I still have a “favorite”, I really like shooting “I was a child” series for the number one issue of FUSS magazine. It was a pretty, sunny day in an amazing location with an amazing team!
What is the most important thing you want potential clients to know about you? That I am myself, I do not pretend I am someone else in my pictures, if someone, a client, choses me, it’s because of what I do, the way I do it, and not another “high-fashion” way of taking pictures in these so many fashion magazines. I always have the ambition of telling a story, telling something to the viewer, and not just only showing this pretty dress.

Black Sunday Lilli Waters Interview with Kai’outi Magazine. Where is home for you? Home for me is a cute Brunswick cottage with my musician fella and two cats Min and Charlie. Home is also up north near Lismore. And anywhere where there are lots of trees or open fields. What first got you into photography? I first got into photography in year 11. It was the black and white darkroom, although I didn’t find a real passion for it until I went to Uni later on. I was supposed to study moving film, but they cancelled the class so I ended up studying stills instead. How would you describe your style? My style. Hmm. Spontaneous, fantastical perhaps, romantic, moving, dreamy, dark, feminine, passionate. What equipment do you prefer to use? I use my Canon mark three which I love. But I love my film. I also shoot on an Olympus OM and my Rolleiflex. You use a mix of both digital and analogue photography, can you tell us a little bit about the process? The process of mixing film and digital is that digital is more malleable and a lot more movement can be used, whereas film hardly ever needs post process work as it is beautiful as it is, but has it’s limitations as well. Lighting. Do you use flashes or natural lighting? Do you prefer one over the other? I hardly ever use flash lighting in my personal work. Something about studios and studio lighting restricts my creative thinking and my brain goes blank, I’d rather be out on location somewhere in nature. Is there anyone or anything that has been inspirational to you? Many many people inspire me. Other photographers, painters, illustrators, dancers etc. Mostly musicians though. I don’t think I would be where I am today if it weren’t for all of the brilliant and moving music I have had filling my head with ideas.. Do you have a favorite location to shoot at? (like a secret location? magical location?) A favourite location to shoot would be the bush, no spot in particular. Trees really do it for me. They are the bees knees. Laurie McClave
Laurie McClave, prolific figure and fantasy artist, features myth, legend and vision in her female representations of the elegant goddess and mystical divine. Precise and bold, her work helps us imagine moral, ethical and political import while simultaneously wowing us with sophistication and style. Laurie has been drawing obsessively since she was a young child. Growing up in California in the ‘60s and ‘70s her extended family was full of artists, free-thinking ‘Mad’ magazine readers and a sprinkling of Catholic comedians. Laurie attended The San Francisco Art Institute where she earned an honors studio spot, concentrated on figure drawing and painting and received her BFA in Painting in 1994. After graduating and exhibiting work around the Bay area and across the country she relocated to the Pacific Northwest where she is painting and raising her own free-thinking family. Her “Pantheon of Women” is a play on iconic representations of how the feminine icon in art has been perceived throughout history. Her paintings are suffused with color, symbolism, and animal imagery, and her style leans toward symbolic realism with a tongue-in-cheek sensual edge. The subjects of her work embrace their individuality and freely revel in their own sexuality. Laurie’s diverse West Coast background has shaped her work and life and consistently influences her palette.
