Isolation - Suffered by Most of the Elderly Their eyes shed tears that speak of their isolation. Their tired faces gaze at you weakly. Their figures lie curled in fetal positions. They appear lifeless and dusty as cast away old furniture. They are the people who are abandoned and deceived in their most helpless years. On their own and unaided, they appear beyond nursing any hope. These are those who because of their old age have been abandoned by their children in "homes" to waste away and die lonely and broken hearted.
Faced with these situations, the first question that comes to mind is: do these fathers and mothers, who gave life, and nurtured their children with affection, devoted their young years to nourish, teach, to meet every child’s demands, now deserve to be deserted like these? Shouldn’t they expect a little care and attention from their own families in return? A visit to a home for the elderly arouses these feelings, and leads us to question ourselves and the society we live in. At the same, it leaves us wondering if the same fate awaits us when we reach our own old age.
