PURSUIT OF POSSIBLE PLANETS
I
n the early spring of 2014, NASA-scientists made a discovery that has the potential to change the way we think about our universe, forever. They uncovered the existence of a planet with very Earth-like qualities relatively close to home. The possibility of another place in space that might hold the conditions for life, as we know it, is truly radical - not to say earth-shaking.
This new-found wonder is baptized “Kepler 186f”, named after the genius Johannes Kepler. He was a radical thinker and brilliant astronomer, from the 16th century, with ideas so fresh and vibrant they still play a part in modern science. With his Mysterium Cosmographicum he sought to order the chaotic world of planets by means of a sacred geometry-system. This brought forth a truly new way of understanding the Universe. With this year’s “Kaospilot Final Exhibition” we would love to pay tribute to Kepler’s world-changing mindset. The 37 members of Kaospilot Team 18, albeit working on a smaller scale, are also striving to alter the common notion of how things are supposed to be. They are driven by a desire to create meaning and value for others and to discover their true passion. In this quest they have created a range of new concepts, that are as diverse as they are ambitious. From developing cutting edge internet security services, to creating new approaches to training leadership in large companies. From using skateboarding as a means of female empowerment, to redefining and promoting participatory democracy in Denmark. From working to create a sharing economy in Oslo, to launching a new ecological roiboos iced tea brand. These and many more! Step into Team 18’s universe, where they will show you all of the findings, discoveries and results, that their planets has revolved around the last year, and will soon seek to also change your world as you know it! Their exhibition pieces provide artistic expressions of their concepts and processes, complimented by more literal project descriptions, in the following pages of this catalogue.

PURSUIT OF POSSIBLE PLANETS
WORDS FROM THE TEAM LEADER Graduating from Kaospilot is an impressive accomplishment. For three years, the students have been challenged and called forward to test themselves, on a daily basis. With the completion of Team 18‘s Pilot Projects, this intense journey, filled with exploration, preparation, experimentation, creation and self-discovery, is nearing an end. This calls for one last step: sharing, investigating and celebrating the stories of the projects and process with our wider community. With you! The pallet containing Team 18’s projects is as diverse and interesting as the team, itself. This is a natural result when you hand such a team a project brief which asks them to “Go create something that is meaningful and relevant, to both you and those around you, and provides a process that allows you to learn as much as possible and that builds character.” What is common in all of the projects are the qualities that I have seen the students exhibit in this pursuit: creativity, hard work, humility and honesty, openness and grit. I am constantly inspired by my students, and how they have strived to embody these qualities. Inspired by art and design educations, the “Pursuit of Possible Planets” exhibition is a space for these conversations to take place. After getting their hands dirty, in the real world for many months, as they realized their projects, and followed by a rigorous and lengthy exam period, with this exhibition, the students have shifted from the literal to the metaphorical and abstract. They will share the stories of their projects using art as a means of, furthering their own exploration and understanding and to share their stories with you in a way that we hope inspires, provokes and invites you to ask into their work. The descriptions in this catalogue offer a more literal description to compliment the conceptual pieces at the exhibition. A warm thank you to all of the members of Team 18 for creating this exhibition, and to our friends at I DO ART Agency for partnering, with us, and providing amazing support in realizing this event. So again, welcome to the Pursuit of Possible Planets. We are grateful for your engagement. Please help us learn even more by asking into Team 18’s work. Sincerely, Pete Sims Team Leader - Team 18 - June 12th, 2014 4
WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL Some of the qualities needed in order to design and deliver a project that elevates oneself, as well as beneficiaries, are: 1. Curiosity. A genuine interest in finding out more about the worlds around us, the worlds within us, and seeking new ways. 2. Humbleness. A respect for others, to see oneself in others, to recognize that something came before, and something will come after. 3. Imagination. To see what is not there, to see what should be, to bring forth a vision, to invite and offer connectedness. 4. Positive attitude. It brings optimism and motivates. It gets you anywhere, finds success and allow for light in darkest hours. 5. Hard work. The value of action, follow-through and grit. Don’t fake it until you make it. Make it until you make it.
Dear reader. Welcome to this year’s exhibition of the projects from the heads, hearts and hands of our graduate students. It is with pride that I write these words. It has been a long journey for Team 18: a journey filled with uncertainty, meaning, changes, failures, successes, laughter and tears – and above all, learning. The education that they have attended is experimental and explorative, experiential and enterprising. This year’s projects certainly demonstrate this, inviting us into different fields, geographies, industries, scopes and ranges. Alongside their differences, much also unites them: qualities that bring promises of readiness and of a contribution to a world shared. Enjoy! Christer Windeløv-Lidzélius Principal 5

uring our final year, at Kaospilot, we have created the social enterprise CORE, with the vision of unfolding human potential by connecting people to their values. Our product offers a proactive response to the stress suffered by employees, in companies. All of this is based upon research that has found that connecting people to their values helps people experience less stress. CORE brings value through 3 separate and synergistic spheres: Connecting people to a team of experts within personal transformation 1. A 3-step process for connecting employees to their own values 2. An intention of catalyzing a social movement for 3. business leaders Regarding the future of Core, we have stitched together all the activities, related to our enterprise, into a 1-year action research project: CORE Seasons. Running between Jan.
2015 and Jan. 2016, we will perform 4 executions, carry out academic research, and develop methods with our Board of experts. The 100 businesses leaders will all meet at a gathering at the end of CORE Seasons, communicating to each other, and the World, what they have learned.
Professionally, what are the most important things you have learned, as a result of carrying out this project? Mikkeline: I have realized that being an enterprising leader is about what I call “framing emergence”. We are gathering a group of international experts because we believe in what can emerge between them, and bringing the method they co-develop to those who need it. By being the “frame holder” of a larger vision, I’ve learned 8
how I can best use my natural strengths in seeing possibilities, dreaming big and connecting people. I’ve also learned to create a situation where all stakeholders are creating value for each other, and our experts and mentors can support our continuous growth, both professionally and personally. Andy: How to create a viable social enterprise which aims to tackle a mega need, within society, at a large scale. And how to leverage experience design to create deeply meaningful and transformational experiences.
Mikkeline: I’ve learned to start with myself, from my own core, from our own daily practises. I am learning to nurture myself, and to use my passionate fire wisely. I feel we’ve been brave to create a project from our own core and purpose – asking ourselves what kind of life we wish to create, and how we can best contribute. I’m starting to trust myself on the pathless path. I FEEL and see my vision for myself, quite clearly, and now I dare to follow my heart, letting the way unfold itself and unattached to what shape it will take. Andy: How to connect with my passion, within my professional work – starting from my own core.

Co-Existence
T
he 24th of October, I entered a country isolated from the international arena, for over 50 years. A place some call Myanmar. Others Burma. I immersed myself into this culture, almost as they say “going native, touching the essence of presence, humanity and life itself.
During my time in Myanmar I have seen the vital importance of integration. The integration of all stakeholders in development. The integration of new technology and old wisdom. The integration of local and global needs. Of challenges, opportunities and values. The integration of systems thinking in all levels of decisionmaking. And most of all the integration yourself into this world.
After 2 months of exploration, I found myself in the isolated Mergui Archipelago, off the coast of Southern Myanmar, conducting an environmental assessment on Pila Kyun and its adjacent islands. This developed into a calling to support Mokan International LTD. in their initial steps to transform the islands into an ecotourism destination, while working with the community in the protection and conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the island. For 3 months, I visited national parks, eco hotels and communitybased initiatives to gather inspiration and knowledge. Gunter Pauli, founder and author of The Blue Economy, and his work especially inspired me with the Indonesian government creating micro enterprises to sustain and create sustainable and resilient island communities.
What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project? All we have is this very moment. Right now. I find it easy to forget to be present and at times I spend whole days either in the past or in the future not realizing the importance of what I choose to do, feel and see at this very moment. We are always faced with choosing an option from an endless stream of choices, memories, emotions, judgements and concepts that are part of you. This year, I have learned to become more consciousness about those choices, of the paths I choose to walk and how that in turn effects the people I love and care about, my community. I have yet to understand the full power of a coherent action with your mind, body and soul but I feel as if I have taken a step in the right direction.
I am now in the finishing stages of a proposal to Mokan Int. for how to use tourism as a catalyser for socio-economic and environmental development, on Pila Kyun and the Mergui Archipelago.
Professionally, what are the most important things you have learned, as a result of carrying out this project? 10

brella’s vision is to make Aarhus the best city in the world when it rains. We aim to do so through offering people the opportunity to lend free umbrellas in shops and other hotspots, in Aarhus. We believe that through providing people a dry and safe space, on rainy days, we enable people to make their own decisions no matter the limits rain usually creates. Potentially leading people to stay in the city and enjoy its various offers. Abrella offers a unique and free service to Aarhus visitors and shops. In collaboration with shops, the municipality, the City Union, and companies, we strive towards creating a more vibrant urban life on rainy days.

What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project?
Everything is 100% financed through advertising, leaving no expenses for the consumers or shops. It is our belief that marketing should be done with a purpose of creating value for the consumers. Using our service as a channel for marketing empowers a company’s brand, as it is part of creating meaningful value for the users.
I’ve learned that I should focus on my strengths and let others do what I cannot.

I call this a network-oriented planner, which is working alongside the construction process ensuring to connect users and local communities on micro-level with municipalities and government on macro-level. The network-oriented planner will contribute with an understanding of health promotion processes, systemic thinking and meditational competencies that will create conditions of possibility for the residents to live their desired everyday life on the basis of physical, mental, and social needs.
Currently over 16% of Denmark’s residents are aged 65, or older. Moreover, the sharpest rise in the Danish elderly population will be in those individuals in most critical need of care: citizens above the age of 80. However studies show that very few want to move into an assisted living facility (ALF). With this in mind, I have been living at an ALF; attended conferences in “positive aging”; and engaged in user involvement processes within the construction process. F
or my final project, at Kaospilot, I have explored engagement processes, within large multi-stakeholder development projects. As a professional Kaospilot, I want to facilitate and design engagement processes to develop and sustain ownership, within our society. My pilot project has taken me through the first steps on this path, and it is with great satisfaction that I now stand on a fundament from which I can expand this profession further.
For my pilot project I have supported development processes in the municipality of Tønder, which aim to create jobs and growth, in the region, through supporting entrepreneurship and business-life.
Engagement processes are currently very trendy, within public development projects, mainly because Denmark has a big and very expensive public sector. Engaging citizens to address societal challenges has both economic and social sustainability potential, which can reduce costs of implementation in the long run.
out this project?
Professionally, what are the most important things you have learned, as a result of carrying
I have truly learned a lot from my work at Idéklubben and I still find myself in the learning phase, where new reflections pop up when I least expect it. One big thing I have learned is to navigate different context levels, within my work.
I seek to fulfill the need of developing new solutions to societal challenges by engaging citizens, using innovative change processes that create improved solutions and lower costs.
As I have worked within a smaller system, Idéklubben, which functions within a bigger system, Idéakademiet, which strives towards a big agenda of job creation and growth of 18
southern Jutland, I have seen how all the levels, within the context, are interdependent. This interdependency requires a certain flow of information and thus communication, which I believe I understand better now. Another aspect of this interdependency was demonstrated as the different context levels were constantly in transformation and affected the other levels. Leading results forward in a platform like this has demanded constant coping to new situations and very flexible design structures, which I believe I now master.
What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project? I guess the most important thing I have learned, this year, is that I am competent to take on a professional life after graduating as a Kaospilot.
I remember observing the 3rd year students graduate after my first year and thinking that this school must be the scariest place to graduate from. We are educated as generalists and have skills to do so much that it sometimes can come across as nothing. But I actually feel the opposite. I feel that I can create my own job, and sell myself with the confidence that I provide value, and this is a great feeling to bring with me as I leave the educational system. Another thing I want to emphasize that builds on a new professional life is, that I have learned to network. Standing on my own, this year, has forced me to build and create new relations over and over again. This has been a great practice and I now see networking as a big skill of mine.

T
his has been a journey about chasing the dream of entrepreneurship through working with a passion, crystallised into new opportunities, within the city of Copenhagen. Driven by the vision of helping to foster a thriving food truck culture, in Copenhagen, I have been working as a first mover in the field of offering street food and food trucks.
Furthermore, I am mobilising a business that will host street food markets, around Copenhagen, functioning as a show room for already-established traders, as well as an incubator for new food entrepreneurs to enter the market.
Through my research into the field, I have explored the best practises in the concept development of food trucks and identified what elements need to be present, in a city, for this way of trading to be successful. This industry is about offering complex food experiences on the streets, presenting gourmet food in fast food style. The food truck trend is slowly developing in Copenhagen, and I am ready to jump along, once the timing is perfect. out this project? I guess the greatest overall learning I have gained from this project is that I’ve gotten a better understanding of how to transform different types of values into money.
My key activities during this period of time has been working on three different event concepts: “Ramasjang Rally”, “Høvdingebold i Skolen” and “Ultra Løbet”.
My approach has been to identify partners that find the specific value that is relevant to them, let them understand their own relationship and role, within the project, and finally charge them for being a part of the project.
These three events are all examples of, how a DR brand in a balance between public service legislations, respect for the brand and creativity can be modified into a concept that creates values for a certain client in a specific context and pay back a profit to the DR organisation, so that it can fulfil its larger vision.

My greatest personal learning from this project is my continuously developing personal leadership and integrity. The two main focuses for me have been: 1. Gaining a deepened understanding of my ego and identified what the ego feels attracted to, what effect the ego has on my decisions and how to consciously control a big ego. 2. How to take responsibility, how to give away responsibility, how to say no to responsibility and in general how to balance the amount of responsibility I take upon me in a professional context with my private life. 33

he educational needs of modern society pose a number of serious problems for the current educational practices. The world no longer cares whether or not you’re smarter than a fifth grader, or how well you do at trivial pursuit. What the world cares about is not what you know, but what you can do with what you know. Therefore, we need to reconstruct education to present opportunities for students to exercise the skill of learning through knowing, playing and making.

he project is a response to a global societal need. A need for change towards a civilization that is sustainable. Our planet is under pressure and is rapidly changing in ways that are increasingly unpredictable. This may have severe and potentially devastating consequences for societies, around the globe. It is time to take responsibility to integrate the human lifestyle with Nature and the implicit order of our world.
In a close partnership, I have been the main responsible leader for strategic objective # 2. This work has involved everything from planning the process, developing the organization and setting goals and deadlines as well as defining criteria for success. The work has also involved development of the organization; including recruiting, mobilization as well as quality insurance and productivity management. We believe that more people know more and better together and that engagement and collaboration are vital elements of democracy. We have worked with the continual objective of involving as many citizens as possible, in the development process of creating the concrete content for our political programme. Part of my work has, therefore, revolved around development of an effective, iterative and scalable engagement process concept for citizen-driven social innovation.
The Alternative is a political platform with a clear mission to positively contribute to realize a sustainable civilization globally. We have initiated the organization in Denmark with a division functioning as a political party. We want Denmark to be the leading and pioneering example for other nations to follow in this international endeavour calling for both leadership and collaboration. The strategic focus for the first year of this substantial project is two-fold: 1. To gain public support and collect enough validated signatures (declarations of support) to formally be able to run for The Danish Parliament.
Over a period of 5 months, we managed to design and establish an organization, of more than 60 people, which executed more than 20 workshops, engaging more than 700 individual citizens, which collectively resulted in a concise 70-page programme, spanning over 7 political focus areas. The result has been named the most fresh and visionary political document in recent Danish politics. This statement came from one of the nations most seasoned traditionalist political analysts.
2. To develop and communicate a visionary, feasible, creative and desirable political programme full of concrete solutions supporting the political purpose of this project. A political plan that is persuasive enough to convince voters and other politicians to let us have increasing influence on the political agenda. 48

Human-Centered Change Management
T
his pilot project has been dedicated to create a change in how we lead sustainable change in an organizational context. I believe that the way to do this is to include and empower the people who will carry out the change. What we know is that people will react to change, and these reactions and the energy that naturally occur in change can, if seen as valuable information, create more effective and better change. Reactions and emotions can guide us to focus on the purpose of the change, help improve the change plan, and clarify objectives and strategies, among other things – If reactions are appreciated as an expression of commitment from the individual.
to creating a resistance that was not there in the first place. What happens if we engage with resistance instead?
“There is a short way from resistance to fruitful engagement”
“What does it mean to be a human and an organization in organizational change processes today?“ Leaders have been warned that it is equally important to identify “emotional data” in the organization as managing operational and numerical variables. At the same time we know that managers have little knowledge about employees’ feelings associated with change in organizations. This pilot project has had the goal to make the emotional side of change more tangible, clear and manageable to help the ones leading themselves and others through a transformation. Managers of organizations today need an understanding of the individual and how change affects them. This understanding is about being aware and recognizing the emotional journey inside the employees, which runs parallel with its organizational change plans. This understanding will allow the managers to navigate and manage change more
How do we productively engage with reactions and emotions? A way to begin is not to fear emotions, and be able to give space and room for honest conversations. Daring to ask into the reactions, and seeking to understand the reasons behind the reactions, both on an individual and organizational level, is key. We need to foster cultures where we deal with emotions and reactions in a valuable way. This will create more engagement and greater ownership, and therefore increase the chances for long lasting change.
Organizations devote huge amounts of time, energy and resources to their change initiatives. The plan of where they are heading, and how to get there is heavily emphasized, which is without doubt very important, but leaders often tend to focus too little on the people who will make this plan happen. Strong reactions and “negative” emotions, towards change, are often labeled as resistance and we all talk about resistance to change as if it were a law of nature. True, we all have feelings about change, but when we talk about overcoming resistance, we approach it as an enemy, instead of as an ally. Resistance is raised as a result of a self-fulfilling prophecy where leaders assumptions and actions contribute 50
effectively. This is why managers should consider emotional reactions to change as valuable information, and focusing on this mindset will show the value of human centered management.

What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project? Jonas: I have found that I have a deep desire to seek meaning in what I do. do and I see myself constantly challenging people on their beliefs. It tells me that I have at least gotten a more holistic worldview, since entering the KP school, and for that I’m grateful. Furthermore I’m very capable of taking on a big task with a lot of unknown factors in it and, in fact, I enjoy that the most. Being able to work in the unknown with confidence was not something I entered this education with but something I enjoy leaving with. Robin: During this project, I’ve really gotten to dive into all my passions and combine them into one coherent package. It’s been like surfing on passion, and it has given me a lot of energy. This is something that, I now realize, is a criteria for how I want to work, in the future. I’ve also learned to recognize when I’m in a good state of being and how to get into that state, by conscious decision. On the flip side, when I’m not in a good state and how to get out of that.

Mattias: I really love being a part of team, and I love developing as a team! As a team and organization member I (humbly) see myself as being a bit like Hanuman, the Hindu monkey God that is such a great supporter to Sri Rama.
Anne Sofie: I have learnt that I am good at balancing realism, scepticism, naivety and carefreeness. Otherwise, I am the same person as I was before joining the KP-cult – I demand my freedom, I love people and I am fine with risks. 57

Organizational and Concept development in Unfair Fashion

y project has been to research the Danish fashion scene and understand the challenges and desires young designers are facing in today’s fashion industry. With this knowledge, I have contributed to strengthen the conceptualization of an organization that aims to show the potential of young emerging designers with sustainable aspirations. Unfair Fashion exhibits Nordic designers in alternative and progressive ways and contributes to a broader network of knowledge and contacts that supports the designers to enter a market and produce clothes with a clean conscience.
out this project? The importance of prioritizing time to clarify my role and assignment. Scoping earlier. That setting goals and scoping, does not necessarily mean that freedom and opportunities are taken away. That structure is actually helpful.
What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project?
The concept serves both fashion designers, who are in the establishing phase and carrying a sustainable profile, and also end users, who have higher expectations towards the products they buy. Unfair at Roskilde Festival is an event happening this summer, which is an experiment to showcase sustainable design in a new context. We bring 9 designers to take part in a weeklong event that brings in users and industry to take part in dialogues around sustainable fashion as well as opening a pop-up shop, where the festival audience can buy our designers’ items.
I have a great strength in creating new relations. That I have a strong intuition that benefits decision-making, not only for myself. That leadership for me feels most right when I lead from passion and purpose, not necessarily from the position of power. To lead, for me, is to create other leaders.

What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project?
he Happy Campers is the name of a film production agency, founded in November 2013. With our love for visual communication, expression and experiences, we aim to create positive change through moving images and storytelling.
Very few things are worth hurrying for. Often I won’t even get there faster.

Inner peace is the ultimate “end goal” for all of us. We just have different strategies on how to get there.
In the ocean of professional and personal learnings and outcomes earned this year, these are the ones I choose to mention at the moment: “Why not?” is not always the best question to ask yourself when in doubt. Sometimes “Why?” is enough. 60

ffektfull Lärande works on several levels. On the one hand, it is a way of combining cognitive, vertical models of learning-as-a-product in competence development and knowledge management with a more emergent, situated approach to horizontal learning and learning-as-a-process. On the other hand it takes the form of a board game to simplify and aid the conversations between consultant and client, where they can co-create learning initiatives and discuss strategic alignment with greater organisational goals. It is a physical product and a philosophical stance.
clients and moving HR-departments from being a support function towards being a strategic business partner. More development is needed and the concept will be tested in both a large private Swedish corporation and a municipality. I’m curious to develop this and other learning initiatives and work more with expansive and workplace learning!
Professionally, what are the most important things you have learned, as a result of carrying out this project?
The concept bridges the two learning domains - the standard and the emergent – and has been developed for use in HR-departments across public and private sectors. Effektfull Lärande is a step in the direction towards developing closer partnerships between consultancies and
Throughout this project, I have worked as a researcher, consultant and apprentice, and this way of combining domains has been full of learning. I’ve gained 6 months of experience as an apprentice consultant in Sweden,

worked as a research assistant at Aalborg University, and run workshops in places, ranging from Bogotá to Billund. I’ve grown my professional network and found my work focus for the next years: Learning and leadership.
What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project? That I truly believe I can’t do anything significant in my life if I don’t work and learn with other people. It’s all about helping out and bringing what I can to the community table. I’ve still got at long way to go on all accounts and I’m hungry for what ever comes.

DANCE FOR LOVE - Leadership in Societal Change
D
ance for Love celebrates diversity through cultural events and actions. We are tired of a segregated society with growing racism. Dance For Love encourage our fellow citizens to take a stand and show the strength of diversity and community. Dance for Love is a dance manifestation in a public place. For two hours, we turn a public square into a dance floor, where everyone is welcome.
During the year I’ve worked in 4 projects and as a consultant to clients. One of my key learning’s from being a consultant is the value I can create for my clients such as Greenpeace, when training them in creative processes and facilitation. The training has transformed their internal creative processes.
What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project?
Dance For Love started in Stockholm, in 2010, and has since spread around Scandinavia. The day before the Swedish election, Sept. 13th 2014, Dance For Love will have a national day of action where thousands of people come together to dance in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Solna, and more cities are still about to join.
The different projects of my year have been focused on creating societal change through large-scale volunteer projects. I’ve learned the importance of value- and relationship based leadership. And how one as a leader can come to master strategic thinking, project management and facilitating the processes of turning volunteers into high performance teams.
