Both publications joined the Best Facebook Page (Secondary Category) competition and placed as Champion and 4th Place for Kapawa and Berdeng Parola, with Kapawa clinching back-to-back from the 2021 COPRE.

“Berdeng Parola’s debut win for PIA’s Best FB Page means that our publication has indeed proved that it is progressing and striving to meet expectations. As an editor, this award signifies that the hard work of all of our staffers truly paid off, and that made me so proud because we did not only grow as a writer but as a whole publication,” stated Berdeng Parola’s Patnugot ng Balita Jay Angelo Olayra.

Olayra emphasized that the achievement had served as living proof that Berdeng Parola is just starting and ready to shine brightly, standing true to their motto: “Tanglaw ng kinabukasan, kami’y maasahan”.

Accordingly, Kapawa placed second in the Best Online Newsletter (Secondary Category), continuing the pedestal finish since 2017, while the Lasallian Crossroads of the Integrated School (IS) finished fourth in the same category.

“This activity manifests that the agency’s advocacy on development communication is not a lost cause,” said PIA DirectorGeneral Usec. Ramon Lee Calouping III, the program’s keynote speaker.

For the Best FB Page, The Panorama, Scilink, and The Radiance placed first, third, and fifth, consecutively; while Starlight SHS, The Aquila, and The Hillside Echo Senior, grabbed the second, third, and fifth places, accordingly, for the Best Online Newsletter.

Debt-driven Investment for Economic Development?

The Philippines’ status quo constantly girdles round the question, what do we prioritize to employ our public funds for— paying our national debt, or legislating an investment fund that is concomitantly financed by increased borrowing that leads to further national deficit?

our national deficit rather than further augmenting to it. Yet, the MIF that was supposed to be the answer to the conundrum worsened our national debt by increasing it further.

15th of December 2022, the sounds of claps and cheers have never felt so alive. With vibrant smiles and buzzing excitement in the air, the curtains open to Hugyaw 2022: The Physical Education Culminating Show, which was spearheaded by the Liceo Physical Education (PE) Department—an afternoon to remember as Liceo students showcased various dance performances of aerobics and culture.

It became the most awaited event of the semester, serving to be the culmination of students under the classes PE 1 and 3. With that, Hugyaw commenced with an enthusiastic bang with the opening production by the Hugyaw Core Group, followed by the Welcoming Remarks by the Basic Education Unit (BEU) Principal Dr. Baldomero Defensor Jr.

Taking the stage then, sections ABM12B, HUMSS12C, TVL12A, STEM12D, STEM12F, STEM12B, STEM12C, STEM12P, and STEM12Q gave their all and delivered a cheerdance performance before the entire class of Grade 11 pupils engaged in the Hataw Aerobic Workout.

The excitement was non-stop and energy continued coursing through each and every one as sections STEM12G, ABM12C, STEM12L, ABM12B, and

HUMSS12B performed next with their executed creative dances inspired by Luzon folk dances, supervised by Sir Jade Alarcon.

It was then that two segments of Visayas dances were also showcased by STEM12K, ABM12F, STEM12I, ABM12E, STEM12E under Ms. Jade Sagayaca and Ms. Aira Moreno and STEM12J, BCAR12A, STEM12O, and STEM12H were supervised by Sir Patrick Plaida.

A performance on Mindanao folk dance-inspired dances transpired next by ABM12A, STEM12M, STEM12A, and HUMSS12, and directed by Sir Karlou Santillana.

The Grade 11 and Grade 12 students were unified for a grand finale performance, which did not only celebrate art, but the spirit of camaraderie. It was followed by the singing of the Alma Mater song, with students waving their green-tinted phone flashlights, proudly showing off their Animo Spirit.

Hugyaw was facilitated by Bahandi, Red Cross Youth (RCY), USLS Production Support Group (PSG), Liceo Rover Scouts, and Liceo Marshals and attended by Liceo faculty, Vice Principal for Academics Mrs. Mira Abalajon, and Dr. Baldomero Defensor Jr.

It is high time we amplify voices and get the Filipinos to be vigilant against an administration that is dead set to pass unjustifiable legislation at the expense of the marginalized.

Well, the House Bill No. 6398 or Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF), being funded from debt, jeopardizes the future of our national economy. For one, annual revenues gathered have consistently been less than the annual expenses for numerous decades; thence, the national government has consistently run a deficit since annual spending has outpaced yearly gain. To compensate for the deficiency, the government has been issuing bonds every year by deficit spending.

As of the end of December 2022, the national government’s overall debt was forecasted to be PHP 13.64 trillion. Our debt-to-GDP ratio rose from 39.6% in 2019 to 64% at present. When it reaches more than 60 percent, our ability to repay our debt is perceived poorly that means we should be diminishing

Because the national government is already in significant deficit and due to the staggering decline in revenues, our debt burden and debt servicing will escalate and the deficit will need to be financed by more lines of credit. Simply put, as the nation is already in a fiscal stimulus situation, borrowings are effectively employed to underwrite the MIF’s capital investment and further capital increases.

This could drastically affect people especially the impoverished at the hemlines of society. Hence, it is high time we amplify voices and get the Filipinos to reject such implausible measure and be vigilant against an administration that is dead set to pass unjustifiable legislation at the expense of the marginalized.

In face of a questionable proposition, we have to debunk that MIF is a prime solution—as it will benefit the rich, it can only exacerbate more pressing plights of the poor.
