NUTRITIONAL TALK On May 5th, our KSA nutritionist Leticia Bravo, organized her second session regarding nutrition. We looked into store-bought cookies vs homemade cookies and the benefits you have of controlling your food! We can consume natural sugars or added sugars in our food. Natural is the sugar found in fruits and such while added sugars are an additional ingredient added to food which our body cannot process as well. It is ideal for you, as an athlete, to avoid added sugars when possible. On our website you can find her recipes for healthier cookies, a sweet snack you can enjoy and it is nutritious. MENTAL COACH TALK Are you imagining yourself running the halls of the residence? Or smelling the fresh air as you step onto the pitch again? We sure are! Our mental coach, Andrea Crosas, held a session on our IGLive on the topic of visualization. The brain is a muscle and has muscle memory. During our time-off, you should be visualizing everything you do in your program for your body to stay in tune with it. We can visualize anything from game moments, drills, trainings, surroundings. It all creates a familiar environment that allows your return to be that much more smoother.
POSITIVE NEWS COVID-19 SITUATION Little by little the situation in Spain is improving! We are slowly making our return to normality and regions of the country are moving onto new phases where each level gives the citizens more liberty to move around. Recently, the numbers for Spain have been at its lowest and continue to decrease! The government is allowing for professional sports to commence training with new protocols set in place. We hope soon information about nonprofessional leagues will be announced soon. The government has also announced that school will commence in September, meaning we are glad to open our KSA doors starting the first day of the 2020/2021 season! We’d like to thank the Singletary, Miyazawa, and Cantazaro families for their incredible help in the past months. They truly meant it when they say “mi casa, es tu casa”. It’s a privilege to have such supportive families in our program.

3 TV SHOWS We want to share with you 3 series to watch that the staff have been loving! They are all about sports and helps us stay connected to football. Some are dramas, other documentaries but they all make you reflect on victory and losses.
THE ENGLISH GAME 1 The Netflix mini-series recalls the origins of modern-day football in England. Based on true events, The English Game follows two teams from different social classes facing each other off in the new sport that would later come to be the world’s most popular past time.
2 THE LAST DANCE You’ve for sure heard of this one! An ESPN and Netflix 10 part mini-series showing unseen footage of the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls season. This was Michael Jordan’s last season in the Illinois franchise and was filled with ups and downs. The series shows different timelines of the team that later defines the importance of the Bull’s 6th championship ring.
LOSERS 3 Another Netflix original series, this one talks about the psychology of accepting failures. The show has separate episodes all based on different protagonists and shows events from the point of view from the losers, not the winners. It shows empathy in all sports, boxing, football, gymnastics, curling, gold, etc. It demonstrates turning failure into something useful. We hope in the 8 episodes you can see these stories as examples of rising again.

AHAN & ALEC Ahan and Alec have been doing phenomenal work as always. They are attending each class and have an exemplary attitude.

Q&A PLAYERS & STAFF The best way to create lasting and strong relationships is by truly getting to know one another. For this reason, we would like to introduce a Q&A section with our players and staff! We’ll be kicking things off with the player with the biggest appetite and the most flexible staff!
PLAYER: Yi Jaewook - City of birth: - Wonju (South Korea) - Team where you play: - Juvenil Kaptiva. - Position: - Striker, Left winger, Right back. I like to play as a striker. - Favorite meal: - Chicken soup. - One dream: - I just want to live happily. - What you love to do in Barcelona: - I like to go to the city of Barcelona and travel around the city. It is a wonderful place. I like to see Gaudi’s amazing architecture, building in Spain, and people with passion. - Your favorite team: - Korean national team. - Best moment in Kaptiva: - My best moment in Kaptiva is the last 1 month in our team. I met my favorite player Ki Sung Yueng. It motivated me. I trained really hard and I played a position that I wanted to play. I can’t expect I work harder than that time. I am happy to remind that memories. - Best teammate: - Yannick In his first season with the academy he has felt very comfortable and integrated. He’s looking forward to returning to Spain, with it being a country he likes a lot. He is a very calm, educated, and friendly guy and we think you can all agree.

STAFF: Ignacio Figueras “Figui” - Role: - Medical coordinator and U16 team development leader. - What do you do in KSA? - Well, in Kaptiva I do a bit of everything. At the end of the day it’s about taking care of our players like their parents would do so. I try to learn from them and always search for new ways to help them grow as players but most importantly as people. An important aspect of my job is to direct and coordinate the medical attention the players receive during their season. On one side there’s the medical appointments that any average young adult would have but also they have the physiotherapist, sports doctors, podiatrists, traumatologists, just to name a few. The boys dedicate a lot of time and effort into football and even with injury prevention, it is normal for players to get injured as it is, unfortunately, a part of football. That’s why when a player comes to me with pain we evaluate what the best recuperation process would be. It’s important that the player knows his responsibility in the rehab process and how it plays a major role in his comeback. For example, this year we had Yannick who after an injury in his knee he received surgery and has been an example for all. His dedication and hard work have brought him to a nice and successful recovery! But it’s not always like that and that’s why I’m here! I also lead yoga for the boys to create strength and flexibility within the mind and body! - City of birth: - Barcelona - Favorite Team: - F. C. Barcelona - Sports Played: - I do a lot! Football, rock climbing, surf, running, martial arts, and of course yoga! - What did you want to be when you grew up? - Well when I was young all I remember clearly is wanting to be a footballer! There were other things I suppose, maybe a doctor like my uncle or firefighter, but footballer always won! It was more fun to play footballers than doctors in school.

- Favourite food: - I love any type of salad especially summer salads! And a good falafel durum! - Best Kaptiva moment: - The moment that always sticks with me is during my first MIC. My grandmother was very ill and passed away while we were away for the tournament. I received so much support from the players and staff. If I don’t remember wrong, it happened right before the final for the juvenil team where we were playing. They held a moment of silence which I didn’t expect. I broke down and couldn’t stop crying. It was very thoughtful. The players would come celebrate their goals with me on the bench and we ending up winning the tournament! It still gets to me thinking about it… - Your favorite goal: - Iniesta against Chelsea in the last minute. Until then, I thought it only happened to Madrid! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cR1sOKEdzg4 Figui has been with Kaptiva Sports Academy for 4 years already! He is one of our veteran staff members. The boys have always seen him as an older brother who’s there to look out for them. He’s a calm, charismatic person who works hard for the boys. He’s the ZEN member of the staff and radiates positive energy. Figui’s job is an important part of the KSA program and creates a vital communication role between players, parents, staff, and doctors.
