I skoleåret 2010-11 har Studieafdeling 8 videreført indsatsen i forhold til at udforske og udfordre arkitekturens teoretiske bestemmelse og praktiske omgang med ’rummet’ for herigennem at bidrage til en kontinuerlig udvikling af faglige strategier, der integrerer de nyeste teknologier i en eksperimentel arkitektonisk arbejdsproces på omgangshøjde med det 21. århundredes programmatiske og konceptuelle udfordring.

Studieafdelingen har i den forløbne periode særligt været optaget af : 1. Reaktivering af produktionsanlæg ud fra landskabelige, produktionstekniske og infrastrukturelle betingelser.

2. Eksperimenterende brug af forskellige teknologier i forbindelse med arkitekturens tilblivelse og fremstillingsprocesser.

Under overskriften ’Mediets dynamik’ har Studieafdelingen desuden sat fokus på begreber som repræsentation og skabelsesprocesser gennem anvendelsen af forskellige medier, relateret til arkitekturens forhold til rum, stof, tid og sted. Via opgaver, studiekredse, workshops, kurser, gæstelærere og samarbejde med en række eksterne uddannelsesinstitutioner er de studerende blevet introduceret til digitalt software til brug inden for Avanceret Digital Modellering og CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing), Mapping Diagram og Parametri, kompleks 3D-modellering, ’scripting’-partikelsystemer og dynamisk animation.

Det er vigtigt at den studerende lærer at forstå at det at formulere et program ud fra sociale, kulturelle, teknologiske kriterier, samt det at vælge medier til udvikling og realisering af dette program ikke er en neutral handling. Valget af ’værktøjer’ griber dybt ind i den arkitektoniske arbejdsproces som måder at udvikle den arkitektoniske idé og den kunstneriske praksis og dermed også i det færdige værk.

During the 2010-11 academic year, Study Department 8 has continued its efforts in relation to exploring and challenging architecture’s theoretical conditions and practical dealing with ‘space’ in order to contribute to a continual development of academic strategies that integrate state-of-the-art technologies in an experimental architectural work process on a par with the 21st century’s programmatic and conceptual challenge.

During this period, the Study Department has been particularly preoccupied by: 1. Reactivation of production facilities based on landscape, production-technical and infrastructural conditions.

2. Experimental use of various technologies in connection with architectural creation and production processes.

Under the heading ‘The Dynamics of the Media’, the Study Department has also focused on concepts such as representation and creation processes through the use of different media related to architecture’s relationship to space, material, time and place. Via assignments, study circles, workshops, courses, visiting lecturers and collaboration with a number of external educational institutions, the students have been introduced to digital software to be used within Advanced Digital Modelling and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing), Mapping Diagram and Parametrics, complex 3D modelling, ‘scripting’ particle systems and dynamic animation.

It is essential that students learn to understand that phrasing a programme based on social, cultural and technological criteria, as well as choosing media for the development and realisation of this programme, are not a neutral action. The choice of ‘tools’ impacts deep into the architectural work process as ways of developing the architectural concept and the artistic practice and thereby the completed work.

En havfarm i Udkantsdanmark

A Sea Farm in Peripheral Denmark

Havfarmen demonstrerer at arkitektens rolle også er at udvikle projekter der er til gavn for samfundet - især i Udkantsdanmark. Havfarmen består af marker med muslinger, alger og fisk i en polykultur ude på havet, et cleantech-industrianlæg i havnen og en besøgsrute til nysgerrige sjæle. Cleantech-anlægget kobles til eksisterende industri i havnen. Derved udnytter projektet den fordelagtige infrastruktur, de eksisterende funktioner og havets potentiale ved at koble havets og landets kvaliteter. Havfarmen er et holistisk projekt, der i kraft af sin placering, tilgængelighed og arkitektur gør at den vil knytte bånd mellem lokalsamfund, by og havn.

The sea farm demonstrates that the architect’s role is also to develop projects for the benefit of society – particularly in peripheral parts of Denmark. The sea farm consists of fields with mussels, algae and fish in polyculture at sea, a cleantech industrial plant in the harbour, and a visitor’s route for curious souls. The cleantech plant is connected to existing industry in the harbour. In this way, the project utilises the favourable infrastructure, the existing functions and the sea’s potential by joining the qualities of sea and land. The sea farm is a holistic project, and due to its position, accessibility and architecture, it will establish ties between local community, town and harbour.

Et Trækulturhus på Blasieholmen, Stockholm

A Wooden Culture House at Blasieholmen, Stockholm

Formålet med bygningen er at sprede viden om træets potentiale inden for produktion, arkitektur, teknik og formgivning. Projektet tager udgangspunkt i at byggeindustrien ligesom bilindustrien vil gå fra ’mass production’ til ’mass customisation’. Miljøhensyn og parametriske formgivnings- og produktionsmetoder vil skabe nye arkitektoniske udtryk. Trækulturhusets grundstruktur er opbygget af 87 forskellige limtræsrammer formet som fem ’træer’ som tegner bygningens indre og ydre relationer når de sammenstilles.

The objective of the building is to spread knowledge about wood’s potential in production, architecture, technology and design. The project takes its starting point in the notion that the construction industry, just as the automotive industry, will go from mass production to mass customisation. Environmental considerations and parametric design and production methods will create new architectural expressions. The wooden culture house’s fundamental structure is made up of 87 different laminated wood frames shaped as five ‘trees’, which outline the building’s inner and outer relations when they are put together.

(RE)AKTIVERING AF STENBRUD_ET KURBAD I GYLSBODA _0-linien Projektet koncentrerer sig om kanten, der optræder som 0-linie for udformningen af anlægget -horisontalt og vertikalt.

(Re)aktivering af stenbrud i Gylsboda: et kurbad

Via mødet med stenbruddets dekonstruerede landskab, transformeret gennem mange års industriel produktion skabes et rekreativt anlæg, relateret til oplevelsen af forholdet mellem landskab, skal, krop og materiale. Gennem en sprække bevæger man sig ned igennem bjerget til man befinder sig på et plateau i bruddets horisontløse rum. Her findes foyer og reception. Fra foyeren ledes man udendørs langs bjergets kant til restaurant og hotel. Til den modsatte side går en sprække igennem bjerget og introducer til badet. Fra det udendørs bad fører en trappe ned igennem bjerget til vandkanten og søbadet.

(Re)Activation of a Stone Quarry in Gylsboda: a Spa This project creates a recreational facility related to the experience of the relationship between landscape, shell, body and material via the encounter with the stone quarry’s deconstructed landscape, transformed through many years of industrial production. You move through a crevice down through the mountain until you reach a plateau in the quarry’s horizon-free space. This is where the foyer and reception are located. From the foyer, you are led outdoors along the edge of the mountain to a restaurant and hotel. On the opposite side, a crevice passes through the mountain, introducing the bath. A staircase leads from the outdoors bath down through the mountain to the water’s edge and the lake bath.
