place

EPFL, Switzerland

The project proposes the symbioses of two contrasting programs around a common topic: the water. The location of this project in Porto Marghera is very important because this is one of multiple origins of a disconnection between Venetians and the water. Over decades the industry of Porto Marghera highly polluted the lagoon water. On the other hand this site also stands as a symbol for this booming era in the young history of Venice. The remaining structures, the industrial ruins have - next to their value as a collective memory a very big architectural potential. On the one hand thermal baths seem to be a good answer for the relation of the Venetians with the element of the water that surrounds them in everyday live. On the other hand the second program of a water treatment plant using the grow of seaweed creates the link to the chosen site and makes the project socially, ecologically and economically relevant.

The project contains 1 big pool, inside and outside, as well 6 small pools of the senses, in the irregular forms. Moving from one to the other means passing from an open space to a more intimate space with this play of the shadow and light.

The structures inside of the bath with the crossing arches might evoke the sensation of being in a church. Under the main axis of this structure the water seems to guide us towards the sacred. The sacred in this case is an outside yard open to the sky where the sacred of this project, the ÂŤskeletonÂť structure is revealed for the first time.

For this project I first of all start to think about the urban planning of this site. I wanna something light and in direct communication with the river project. This project is more than a simple architecture project, it’s a development and a remember the importance of community on the human scale. The evolution and the construction of this project has a lot of different step. The first one is about a new road system, the second one is about new subway/commercial mixer zone (in order to increase the construction budget) and the last one, news socials houses for a better neighborhood life!

The concept of this architecture project it°s about, more privacy space and with more natural light. this project is composite with different layer : the first one is the central vertebral (apartments) then the green space (balcony) the next one is the open space (circulation area) and the final one is the hole wall (facade). I believe that the design can affect the community, the creativity and change the design of mega-cities to tiny office spaces.

On this site I want to preserve the traditional Japanese bld. and put more green spaces. The space takes shape out of the fluent harmonization between existing architecture and natural environement wanted it to be the kind of place were people could come and feel like they were strolling through the forest. Not the capacity for one entire open space, but for various activities. In such ways the surrounding natural environment penetrates the building.

The central element of this project was the light shaft which leave colors in a three-dimensional chromatic circle filling all the space. The white light enters by the well and is reflected through an imaginary prism in a circular rainbow. The light being the main element, had also to exist during the night and during days without a low luminosity. For the annalise of this space I have used the lighting analise logicier DIVA with Rhino, that help me to make my lighting design for this particular place.
