We are hoisting up our sails with Margaritaville® and are setting a course to the palm-laden island where we can escape reality: Margaritaville® Island Reserve, by Karisma. Our new destination is the idyllic setting for those who really want to enjoy paradise, leaving behind daily cares and concerns. This prestigious collection of Inclusive Experience luxury resorts will combine a beachy relaxed atmosphere with all the comforts that we are known for. The first of these destinations will be launched this winter 2019/2020: Margaritaville® Island Reserve Riviera Cancun, by Karisma. Next year, in 2020, Margaritaville® Island Reserve Riviera Maya, by Karisma and Margaritaville® Island Reserve Jamaica, by Karisma, will become realities, and Margaritaville® Island Reserve Cap Cana, by Karisma will open in 2021. This strategic alliance was created because of our constant and consistent desire to be innovative and continue to take the lead in the hospitality industry. This desire, combined with the passion that all of you employees show day by day, will allow us to continue to position ourselves as a leading enterprise globally. We are already used to the many Awards and accolades we receive. We are already late in the second half of 2019, and It has been a year of many challenges and lessons. New location for Tequila Tasting In the absence of the usual Agavero bar, our traditional tequila tasting now takes place in Deck Aquanox, where guests can taste the four types of tequila in the Clase Azul brand (Blue Class): White, Silver, Aged and Extra Aged.

Remodeling begins The remodeling process has begun in the gift shop area, the Agavero bar and the jewelry store. Planned completion is expected in November!

Opening of The Chapel The chapel “Our Lady of Miracles” (Nuestra Señora de los Milagros), located on our property, was officially incorporated into the Archdiocese of Ensenada. The celebration of the Eucharist is held every Sunday, at 1:30 p.m., where we welcome all Catholics who wish to come and witness our emotional masses surrounded by a wonderful landscape.

Our Winery collecting awards During the “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles”, (Brussels Global Competition) our wine company obtained the recognition “Red Wine World Revelation 2019”, for having the top scoring sample in the blind tasting performed by more than 340 experts from the wine industry: The 2016 Caipirinha reserve. And if that weren’t enough, we collected 10 more prizes.

Reggae To maintain the culture of our nations for future generations it’s important that the country’s standards and ideals are preserved. This is our focus at Azul Beach Resorts Negril, by Karisma, where we recently organized activities for International Reggae Day. This holiday, celebrated on July 1, 2019, for fifteen years in a row, lasts 24 hours. Reggae, dance, music and culture is hailed for its influence on Jamaican music globally. The goal of the holiday is to celebrate the best of Jamaican creativity, hailing its impact on the world through power of music. It’s a significant opportunity for locals and visitors alike to appreciate Jamaican culture through its world-renowned music. The main event, which is always the highlight for the many guests, was a great dinner-theater, a reggae beach party at its best. All enjoyed the traditional chicken and pork jerk cuisine, while strumming along with the funky entertainment that followed the evolution of Jamaican music over past 50 years, from the influential traditional Jamaican Mento music, going on to spawn ska, rock-steady, many rock genres like Reggaeton and dancehall beat music. During this session, a cover band made an excellent tribute to Bob Marley.

SEA TURTLE SEASON

is upon us now, Mexico! As with every year, at the end of April and the beginning of May, some of the oldest creatures on the planet begin to grace our beaches: our beautiful Sea Turtles. Sea turtles belong to the chelonioidea superfamily, and today 7 species inhabit the world’s seas and oceans. In Mexico, we welcome 6 of them, and in the state of Quintana Roo we are regularly visited by 4 types: Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta caretta), White Turtle (Chelonia mydas), Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) and the Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriácea).

Turtles are protected by the Official Mexican Standard NOM-162SEMARNAT-2015 and our hotels have to comply with a number of measures to protect them, that is why on the most likely nesting beaches (El Dorado Royale a SPA Resort, by Karisma, Generations Riviera Maya, by Karisma and El Dorado Seaside Suites a SPA Resort, by Karisma) we have “tortugueros” camps, employees registered with the Directorate General of Wildlife. The hotels of Puerto Morelos (Azul Beach Resort Riviera Maya, by Karisma y Azul Beach Resort Riviera Cancun by Karisma) collaborate directly with the staff of the Arrecifes National Park of Puerto Morelos to protect the turtles that nest on these beaches. But these specially located hotels are not alone. At our other hotels where it is less likely that they come to nest, we still apply measures to protect them in case any decide to leave their nest on our beaches there. We love our turtles!

Certifications of social and environmental responsibility in Karisma ‘White Syndrome’, the rare disease that is killing coral reefs in the Mexican Caribbean In the last eight months, the Mesoamerican Reef System has lost as much coral as what had been lost in 40 years previously, due to the disease recently dubbed “white syndrome”, although its scientific name and causes are still unknown. According to Dr. Lorenzo Alvarez Phillip, a researcher in the Academic Unit of Reef Systems of ICML, a division of UNAM, this disease is putting our entire destination at risk, as the main industry in our area, tourism, depends on the crystal clear waters and sandy white beaches, which can only be achieved if our reefs are healthy.

“White syndrome” can kill entire colonies of corals in a matter of weeks. These coral reefs reach the size they are over hundreds of years, says Melina Soto of the Healthy Reefs for Healthy People organization. “It’s a major catastrophe! We’re losing our corals! We’ve already recorded the loss of 30% of our coral species, which was already at an all-time low,” the specialist said. In process

This disease was first detected in Florida in 2014, and in 2018, in June specifically, the first diseased coral colonies on Mexican shores began to be observed. The cause is still unknown, although the main hypotheses right now, points to water contamination by sewage treatment plants and excess sargassum that has reached our shores in recent years, which abnormally increases organic matter in the water.

AROMAS AND SCENTS TO HEAL THE MIND When you say words like aromatherapy, your mind evokes the sweetest smells that it can imagine in that data storage bank that is your brain. The aromas help you remember people or places, they help you immerse yourself and take you into different places, moods or emotions. Just in the first half of the last century, scientists, doctors and massage therapists rediscovered these ancient techniques of using scents to heal and hung upon their therapeutic purposes, coining the term as we know it now as aromatherapy. The foundation lies in the handling of extra essential oils from various plant types. Healing effects of different types have been proven in relaxation, stimulation, anti-depressive effects, and balancing agents, just to name a few. Diffusers are generally used to make oils evaporate and integrate into the ambiance. Internet research may not bring up much, but by acquiring these essences and using them on your own, you may well get a deeper and more effective experience you want to achieve. So, it is good to read a little more on the subject, or better, approach some expert in the subject that can guide you in this fascinating and relaxing way.

Little by little, they arrive and sporting huge smiles, they introduce themselves and hug as if they have known each other for years. The fact of the matter is that Miguel Rangel and Marcelo López, who are a significant part of the staff of the host hotel, have been working together on this property for eleven and nine years respectively at this Karisma resort. They have witnessed endless stories. After a chatting a few minutes, all feel at home, as friends and guests. Sitting in a comfortable lounge at Azul Beach Riviera Cancun, by Karisma and enjoying the traditional drink of the hotel, the nonalcoholic cinnamon mojito, we get together to talk about what it means to “run the lobby” and then what a great responsibility that entails. We are not only speaking about the suitcases on their shoulders – we are talking about the ones carrying them, our beloved Bellboys, as people.

Also known as “buttons” in Spanish these are a fundamental team in the daily life of the operation of the hotel as they are responsible for receiving, caring for, and resolving and finalizing any guest issues during their stay. They must be the best-known face and the ones who make a real mark on a guest’s experience from check in to check out. KARISMA PEOPLE Being a bellboy is a way of life. Not everyone is able to wear such an optimistic attitude all day every day of work. So, to be a good bellboy you need to be someone who finds happiness in the smallest of life’s details. It’s not enough to master the science of suitcasepacking so that they arrive at their destinations. Everyone knows that being a bellboy is much more than being a dolly-pusher. Some say that it’s a combination formula that includes being a bit concierge, a bit of a guide, a supervisor and even a psychologist. Whether a guest asks to be given directions or needs to buy a purple elephant, the bellboys are the ones that are going to have to fill that need! And so it is, sometimes there are situations that could blow away the imagination of any screenwriter, be it lost brides, keeping hidden identities, offering comforting bearhugs, having to deal with ghosts… and whatever else you might imagine.

GAIN WITH YOUR KILOS Bariatric and metabolic surgery is not the recommended solution for everyone but for others, it is the beginning of a new life. In principle, it is important to explain that there is a difference between being overweight and plain obesity. Obesity is the result of many factors that occur in a person’s life. Depending on BMI (body mass index), the degree of obesity ranging from 1 to 3 is determined, the higher number is considered morbid obesity and usually involves a certain medical picture that can be caused by a hiatal hernia, sleep apnea, hypertension, diabetes, and many other conditions that can result over time, with various complications that slow down quality of life or lead to death.
