C
onstant renewal, vision and dynamics have been the hallmark of our business since its inception, leading to outstanding achievements. In the past three years we have grown 56 percent by establishing properties in different parts of the Riviera Maya and abroad. This can all be attributed to a joint effort and resolve on the company’s part. Our vision and drive have led us to the successful inaugurations in Croatia of Sensimar Makarska in May and Adriatic Beach Resort, by Karisma, in July, just in time for the 2015 summer high season. This same kind of persistence led Azul Fives Hotel and El Dorado Maroma, a Beachfront Resort, by Karisma to obtain the prestigious AAA 4-Diamond Award. Furthermore, our passion for innovation has led us to create the NickelodeonTM Experience in partnership with Viacom International Media Networks, the creator of the famous NickelodeonTM channel. As a result of the success of this partnership, we have begun to build the first international NickelodeonTM Hotel, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic! It will open in 2016, and we will later begin construction of yet another NickelodeonTM Hotel in Mexico. We are also projecting growth in Jamaica, with 1,200 hotel-rooms within the next five years. By 2020, our goal is to establish another 30 properties in new destinations such as Brazil, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Greece. A wide range of opportunities are opening up for the company, and to all the employees who decide to take on these challenges at national and international levels, such as when the great team including RoomsDivision, F&B, SPA, Information Technologies and Finance staff, among others, decided to travel to Croatia to support the opening of Adriatic Beach Resort and Sensimar Makarska, by Karisma. A major challenge in the face of such growth is to simultaneously maintain our company quality standards and our unity. Our teams around the world need excellent coordination to leverage their shared knowledge and talent so that it will enable us to keep delighting our guests with new and memorable experiences, and continue to earn the respect of the hospitality industry. ANDREA DÜERRE General Manager of Azul Beach Hotel, by Karisma
As of March 1, 2015, Ms. Andrea Düerre joined the company as General Manager of Azul Beach Hotel, by Karisma. Andrea graduated in Hotel Management from the State Professional Hospitality Training College in Germany in 1991. She became adept in various departmental areas ranging from Housekeeping, Reception, Reservations, Customer Service and Sales. She became Rooms Division Manager and Resident Manager for chains such as Queens Hotel in UK, Steigenberger Los Monteros in Spain and UK and for Allegro Resorts in Germany, Dominican Republic and Mexico. She earned her first General Management position in Costa Rica for the Occidental Allegro Papagayo in 2006. There she was promoted to General Manager for Occidental Grand Papagayo, a 5-star hotel, and remained till 2013. From 2014 to February 2015, she served as General Director for the Crocs Casino Resort Hotel in Costa Rica.
GIANNINA SOLOMBRINO Director of Food & Beverages
Ms. Giannina Solombrino joined Karisma on April 6, 2015 as F&B Director, reporting to the Vice President of Food and Beverages. Giannina is a graduate of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, with a specialization in Tourism and Hospitality Management. She worked in a variety of exotic destinations including Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, England, Guatemala and Mexico. She has developed her career in the International Hospitality industry acting as Restaurant Manager at Park Hyatt, as a Brand Manager at Häagen-Dazs, Assistant Food and Beverages at Claridge`s and at the Shangri-La, and as the Director of Food and Beverages for Mandarin Oriental, Conrad and culminating in a two year term with Starwood Hotels at the Sheraton in Mexico City.

IVAN RESTREPO General Manager of Allure Aroma Mocawa, by Karisma
Mr. Ivan Restrepo, joined our company on April 1, 2015 as General Manager of Allure Aroma Mocawa by Karisma in Colombia. Originally from Armenia QuindĂo, Colombia, Ivan graduated from the Business Administration Faculty, at Externado University of Colombia in Tourism and Hotel Management and has a Diploma in Marketing and Sales. He has worked in such diverse destinations as Colombia, Venezuela, Uruguay, Puerto Rico and the US, and has been employed by various international chains like Sheraton, Hilton, Sol MeliĂĄ, Carnival Hotels & Casinos, Confortel, Intercontinental, Hesperia and Conrad. He brings with him over 20 years experience in sales and marketing management, as well as hospitality consulting, acting as General Manager until the date of his incorporation to Karisma.
DIRK-OLIVER URBAN General Manager of Azul Fives Hotel, by Karisma
Mr. Dirk-Oliver Urban joined Karisma Hotels & Resorts on June 15, 2015 as General Manager of Azul Fives Hotel, by Karisma. Dirk graduated from the School of Tourism of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain and has a Masters Degree in Tourism and Hospitality from La Laguna University in Spain, with the Institute of Regional Development, sponsored by Cornell University. He has developed his professional hospitality career by holding positions as General Manager of various hotels, acting as Chief Operating Officer at RCD Resorts, and for the last two years as an independent consultant in tourism and hospitality.

On June 15, 2015, Mr. Mario Mathieu was promoted from being General Manager of Azul Fives Hotel, by Karisma to the position of Director of Operations Region Caribbean (except the Mexican Caribbean), reporting to Mr. Sasa Milojevic, Vicepresident of Operations.

arisma Hotels Adriatic continues to set milestones in tourism offerings in Croatia. Summer 2015 brought the successful opening of two new properties on the Makarska Riviera: Adriatic Beach and Sensimar Makarska, by Karisma, and the expansion of Kalamota Island Resort, by Karisma, the first couples-only resort located on the island of Kolocep, Dubrovnik. Sensimar Makarska is our new beach Resort, completely renovated and re-furnished, with 179 modern suites and rooms, two restaurants, a martini bar and two pool-bars serving two outdoor pools and an outdoor fitness area. The spa and fitness center houses a gym, with sauna and massage and beauty treatment rooms. Sensimar Makarska is situated in the beautiful port of Igrane, above which stand the imposing Biokovo Mountains, a perfect setting for this second Karisma Adriatic resort dedicated to couples.

Karisma has ensured that the brand suits the European market and the Adriatic region, establishing this presence in the burgeoning sector of adult resorts. Guests can enjoy couples massages, suites with pools (a novelty in the region), bio-based cosmetics, romantic activities, as well as dishes and cocktails prepared with much care to enrich vacation memories for our guests in Croatia. Sensimar Makarska opened its doors in time for the 2015 summer season on May 7th, receiving glowing reviews from guests. Adriatic Beach Resort, by Karisma is located on the beautiful Makarska Riviera, in southern Dalmatia, sheltered by a pine forest in a region famous for its beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters. Since the days of Roman Illyria, the region has been at the core of artistic inspiration and preserves to this day its aura of peace and serenity. Intact forests, flora and wildlife welcome every guest upon arrival. This resort extends along a beach of small stones and has a forest of pines and olive trees. This third property of Karisma dedicated to couples in the Adriatic coast is distinguished by its tranquility and modern design, and has 266 rooms and suites inspired by its natural surroundings. The resort has 3 restaurants: Dalmatino Restaurant, which has two “show-cookingâ€? stations, the Culinarium, an Italian Ă€ La Carte Restaurant, and the Gran Mare Grill Restaurant,
specializing in grilled dishes. Cocktails and exceptional service enhance the Grande Mojito Bar, the Coffee & Lobby Bar, as well as the Pool & Snack Bar. All this is arranged among the abundant flora and fauna, and surrounded by the many facilities for an active yet relaxing holiday. Friday July 3rd saw the successful opening of Adriatic Beach Resort, by Karisma. With passion and enthusiasm we received 300 guests who came to enjoy their holidays in this stunning property. Our colleagues from Karisma Hotels Adriatic and the Task Force did a great job ensuring the hotel was ready to provide masterful service and their effort was instrumental in the success of these grand openings. Finally, we have news for lovers of Dubrovnik. Our first resort for adults-only opened last year, Kalamota Island Resort, by Karisma is ready for a fabulous summer characterized by the expansion of our restaurants and public areas, as well as the debut of the new La Vita Spa & Gym. MANAGEMENT TEAM Veljko Ostojic | Chief Executive Officer Veljko Ostojic was born in Pazin, Croatia in 1958 and after spending his teenage years in Pula, graduated in 1981 from the University of Zagreb with a Degree in International Business. Since his graduation he has been dedicated to the tourism of Croatia. Previous to joining Karisma Hotels Adriatic in autumn 2013, he was the Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Croatia from 2012-2013. In the new millennium, he was also a member of the Council of the President, Deputy Minister of Tourism, President of the Istra Tourist Board and held numerous other executive positions in the tourism public sector. Marinko Benic grew up in Dubrovnik, and after attaining degrees form the Faculty of Maritime Studies, as well as Faculty of Foreign Trade and Tourism, he started working for different banks in Croatia in management positions. His education is further enriched through Harvard University AMP and is now finalizing his CFA at the AIMR. He also worked for the UK Department for International Development advising governments of Serbia and Montenegro, overseeing and managing the top financial projects at the time, including the first bank privatization project in Serbia and Montenegro. In recent years he was the Member of Board of the Vaba Bank Varazdin, Director in the Financial Advisory Sector of KPMG, CEO of PGM Ragusa Group and CFO of Coning Group. At the end of 2012 he help set up Karisma Hotels Adriatic and in November 2013 became the CFO and Member of the Board. Benic is fluent in English and his favorite pastime is cruising the Croatian islands with his wife or exploring together the beaches across the globe with Financial Times in hands.
Bernard Zenzerovic was born in Pula, Croatia on May 22, 1979 where he received his degree in 2003 from the Faculty of Economics and Tourism, thereafter continuing with his education in communication and sale expertise at the Allianz Zagreb, as well as participating in the Regional Capacity Development Program at the Public Administration Office of Croatia with the European Educational Forum. Zenzerovic worked at the Pula chapter of the Croatia Chamber of Commerce and Industry after his studies, and privately owned trade company Allianz Zagreb where he stayed until 2006 when he joined the Istra Development Agency, thereafter moving to the Pula Mayor’s Office as the Deputy Mayor, staying there until his nomination in 2012 as a Chief of Staff to the Minister of Tourism, Veljko Ostojic. Mr. Zenzerovic joined Karisma Hotels Adriatic in autumn 2013 to assist in our regional development plans and coordination of the Zagreb headquarters as a whole. Besides Croatian, Bernard speaks fluent English and Italian and can communicate in German. Edita Ovcaricek was born in Zagreb on July 29, 1980 where she attained her BA degree in Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Business in Zagreb, and further perfected her calling in finances with various certificates, including the corporate finance qualification and the ACCA expected in December 2015. Edita worked as an Assistant Professor at her Faculty of Economics and Business until 2003 when she moved to Deloitte first as an Audit Associate and thereafter as a Financial Advisory Manager, dedicating her next decade of professional life to due diligence and merger projects for the executive clients and regional giants. Edita joined Karisma Hotels Adriatic in February 2014 to assist in the controlling and financial life of our company, making her an asset vital to our development plans and goals for the region. She excels in languages, in that apart from her native Croatian, Edita is fluent in English, German and Slovenian and she can communicate in Spanish. Purchasing Manager Zoran Benic was born on August 14, 1972 in Dubrovnik where he graduated from the University of Tourism and Foreign Trade and in 2010 perfected his economics degree by obtaining a Master of Economic Sciences degree at the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb. Zoran worked for 12 years for the leading Croatian financial mediation company Fina, and he moved in 2010 to lead the sales team of the Dubrovnik Branch, one of the largest retail chain of kiosk and leading Croatian distributor of newspapers Tisak. In 2013 he joined Karisma Hotels Adriatic as a Purchasing Manager to help our growing team and portfolio of hotels while ensuring business objectives. In his spare time, Zoran prefers spending time with his family and of course, exploring the hundreds of Croatian islands around him. Chief Food & Beverages Manager Dejan Peric was born in Belgrade on May 26, 1984 and joined the hospitality industry even before he finalized his studies at the Hospitality and Tourism College, eager to perfect his passion. He excelled in all the positions throughout his career, and very soon moved to the prestigious restaurants of Belgrade, designated to the F&B operations, such as Restaurant Novak, Talas Restaurant and the renowned Diva Restaurant and Club of the Grand Casino Belgrade. In 2011 he joined Karisma Hotels & Resorts and stayed in Mexico strengthening our team amongst others in Azul Sensatori and the rewarded Le Chique Restaurant, as well as El Dorado Seaside Suites. By the end of 2012 Peric moved back to Europe, this time to be part of, and help in the set up Karisma Hotels Adriatic that is dedicated to providing new standards in the Adriatic region. Dejan is fluent in English and Spanish and his dedication to Karisma and knowledge of the region is an asset to the operation and management of the Adriatic properties. He is married and has two adorable children with whom he spends all his free time, mainly exploring the islands and the stunning region of the Balkans.
General Manager of Kalamota Island Resort, by Karisma Maro Kulas was born on February 19, 1975 and spent his childhood on the Dubrovnik Riviera where he attained his degree in Economics at the Faculty of Tourism and International Trade. He worked throughout his studies at the Croatian Telekom, and trade companies, and thereafter was a Bar Manager for five years. In 2004 he joined Rixos Libertas Dubrovnik, and continued to work for the Rixos chain of hotels in Astana, and again in Dubrovnik until 2011 on various managerial and executive positions. For the last 3 years he worked in Lafodia Sea Resort on the Island of Lopud as Sales and Marketing Director and in Importane Resort in Dubrovnik as Director of Operations before he joined Karisma Hotels Adriatic in 2015. Maro is fluent in Croatian and English and has conversational knowledge of Russian, German and Italian. Igor was born in Zagreb, Croatia on June 7, 1973 and obtained his Hotel and Tourism degree from the University of Zagreb. He worked throughout his studies as a barman, Chef De Bar, Sommelier and Maitre D’Hotel, and upon finalization of his degree in 2004 he joined Hotel Excelsior as an F&B Manager, constantly moving up and remaining dedicated to hospitality, his passion.
Jure Juran was born in Split, Croatia on January 11, 1984, and has a graduate degree in Economics from the University in Split. Upon obtaining his degree he started working for Slobodna Dalmacija Trade, within the Agrokor Group of companies as the Regional Manager, where he worked for nearly four years.

In 2011 he started working for the Kempinski chain of hotels, as the F&B Director in Kempinski Hotel Adriatic, and thereafter was posted in Baku, Azerbaijan to be the F&B Director of Kempinski Hotel Badamdar. He returned to Croatia in November 2014 to join Karisma Hotels Adriatic as a Managing Director for Sensimar Makarska. Igor is married and his favorite pastime is sports and fishing. In May 2011 he started working for Hoteli Zivogosce as the Deputy Sales Director, and thereafter as a Hotel Manager. After the purchase of Hoteli Zivogosce by Karisma Hotels Adriatic, Jure remained in the Karisma family and was named the General Manager of Adriatic Beach Resort by Karisma in the beginning of 2015. Jure, other than his native Croatian, is fluent in English and all his private time is dedicated to his wife and child and the love for exploration of his native Makarska Riviera.

abor Day is a holiday in Jamaica, a day in which we usually set up special events for community projects, and social institutions such as schools, hospitals, police stations and other places. These institutions would not normally take on these projects by themselves without the support of organizations like ours.

Labor Day is celebrated every year on May 23rd. It’s a great time to share as we work for the benefit of our community. On this past May 23rd, Azul Sensatori Jamaica, by Karisma organized a project to celebrate Labor Day in support of the Little London All Age School in the community of Westmoreland, located just a few kilometers from our resort. This college had many needs including painting and repairs, so we performed a major renovation that students and teachers greatly appreciated.

This is the ‘ultimate live escape game’, a detective-style concept game where you can feel like you’re Sherlock Holmes. un juego de escape que nace de un concepto detectivesco donde te puedes sentir como todo un Sherlock Holmes. This game transports participants into a dimension of mystery, where solving the clues will lead to solving the case and lead them to the exit. This new form of entertainment was born in Japan in 2007 inspired by video games, and is now all the rage in Asia, Europe and the United States. The challenge is for a group of people to get out of a locked room within a limited time, uncovering clues and solving puzzles. Two scenarios, Pirates and Archaeologists, will awaken our guests’ imagination and intrigue, who then will have 45 minutes to try and escape from the rooms, which are full of codes and riddles, in a race against time that challenges the intelligence and skill of the players. This concept is designed for the whole family and will be an activity for an additional fee ranging from USD$30 for two participants with a limited quota of five people per session.

I start with a salute to the four cardinal points, perceiving the 4 elements, in the midst of a ritual in a ‘steam house’. It’s a special sensation that you’ll feel when becoming aware of Mother Earth in the Temazcal. The Temazcal represents the womb of a mother. By tradition it is linked to the sense of “purification”. Inside the Temazcal it is dark and therefore the Mesoamerican people linked it with “Tezcatlipoca”, the Aztec god associated with the smoke coming from the coals that heat the stones of the Temazcal. “The Mayans believed that the way to heal body, mind, spirit and emotions was through the Temazcal. Beginners are sometimes taken aback when we first enter the darkness, but as Shaman, I try to lead them without fear to achieving detoxification, hydration of the body and an experience that frees the mind” says José Luis. This ritual works on four aspects: Detachment from physical life, forgiveness, pampering the inner child and gratitude.

The reflection of camera flashes highlighted the “made of joy” multicolored drinks waiters had topping their trays, scurrying around through the crowd. Mr. Mandy Chomat, Karisma’s Vice President of Marketing and Sales, was on stage, excited and ready to share details on how this adventure with NickelodeonTM began.

I must say that during all my travels I have stayed in many hotels, I have seen many opportunities and looked at many new directions for NickelodeonTM. When Mandy called me, and spoke so highly of Karisma and their standard of service, as well as their commitment to excellence, I immediately planned my visit here. And when I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find that everything I had read and heard about was all true. Starting with breakfast at 8:00 am in Restaurant Zavaz, our favorite characters, Dora, Boots, SpongeBob and Patrick danced, hung around and took pictures with each of the attendees, youngsters and older ones alike. After breakfast, it was time for a site inspection of the premises at Azul Beach Hotel, by Karisma, so that travel agents, media and special guests, could find out all about the NickelodeonTM Experience.
The guests were welcomed by SpongeBob and our sales team, and with violin music in the background, they began their journey through to Scoop, the SpongeBob ice cream shop. The next stop was a visit to Azulitos Kids Club, a visit to the NickelodeonTM Store, and to then they returned to the lobby, where Michelangelo (Ninja Turtle) was waiting for some final travel event photo opportunities.

SLIMING, PIZZA PARTY AND ORANGE CARPET That same afternoon, from 3:00 pm at the Splash Park in Azul Sensatori Mexico, by Karisma, everyone got to see an example of a “Sliming” experience. Then, about 7:00 pm, located in the same resort, the Pizza Dude Restaurant waited for them with open arms, offering up their delicious stone oven pizzas which were served on original “trash can lid” shaped trays à la Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We even enjoyed the iconic ‘pepperoni pizza’, a favorite of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael! No one could wait for the grand finale, the Orange Carpet event! Everybody returned to their childhood days for a night of meeting and greeting and taking pictures with everyone’s favorite characters. But the show didn’t end there. After the procession of the characters along the Orange Carpet guests joined the animated figures in a fun choreographic experience. “I really think Jamaica is a great destination,” said Mr. Krstajic, noting that our company has had a great experience with their workers and with the Jamaican authorities. “We felt welcomed there, so it’s time to grow in Jamaica.” The complex, it was revealed, will be “somewhere between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.” It will begin in the third or fourth quarter of 2016 and is projected to be completed in 2 years.

T
he final phase on the implementation of People Soft in Azul Sensatori Jamaica, by Karisma started on the past April 20th. The hotel that has been added to the company’s portfolio, takes advantage of this system that allows handling global financial processes, besides from offering a better visibility on the business’ essential information. As a part of the implementation plan, we started by inviting all Executive Committee and Administration users to participate in our starting up meeting, leaded by Mr. Rolando Miravete, General Manager, and Eduardo Medina, General Comptroller of Azul Sensatori Jamaica.The training phase taught the users People Soft’s functionalities and each module’s integration, allowing them to have access to the trial system. Once the users mastered the environment, they proceeded to capture the work documents directly to the system. To this day, there are 23 users with access to the business unit for Azul Sensatori Jamaica, and even closed their first balance sheet on May!

new service for the customer has been settled since the past February, the -In Room Entertainment - Smart TV. Its principal function is the Internet access using the functionalities and apps, such as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Netflix, Vudu, among others, that are already embedded on the Smart TV, and that will offer the guest a new experience that will ease their stay. It seems important to point that a fee will be applied for this service. For the moment this service will be available in Generations Riviera Maya and Azul Fives Hotel, by Karisma. On a second phase, the service will be offered in all other resorts, once they implement the necessary network infrastructure. The activation is really simple, the guest should just dial from their room phone and they will have immediate access to this service. There are 3 packs for now, just as shown on the tend-card’s images that will be placed on each room that counts on this service.

e wish to congratulate all El Dorado Maroma, a Beachfront Resort, by Karisma team for the optimal implementation on the Programa Earthcheck, as well as all those who work daily on these activities on all the properties. Thanks all for their “Pasión por la Sustentabilidad” (“Passion for Sustaintability”) today we have a real impact on our local communities that allows us to keep on being a business both Responsible and Sustainable. The Earthcheck Program is one of the most well-known sustainability programs across the world. Settled in 1987, it operates in more than 70 countries, along with business, communities, and governments on the development of the Most Sustainable Touristic Destinations. It works since 2014 in collaboration with Mexico’s Tourism Secretary, certifying hotels that respect the Good Environmental Practices and Business Management. On May, Earthcheck visited El Dorado Maroma, a Beachfront Resort, by Karisma hotel to audit the implementation of the Sustainability Practices on the hotel’s daily operation. This evaluation was not only important for the hotel, but to all properties owned by Karisma Hotels & Resorts located in Riviera Maya, as their certification relied on the obtained results. During two days, the auditors toured all the property’s areas, the documents and registers were revised, and 34 collaborators from different sectors were interviewed and explained with their own words their everyday duties to use the business’ resources on the best possible way. El Dorado Maroma stood out on 3 key points that we want to share with all our collaborators, accredited as “Good Practices”, and who go further than what other hotels do for their Environmental and Corporate Social Responsibility programs.

Conservation and Adoption of Marine Turtles program: All our properties count with an adoption program for marine turtles in which the guest and collaborator can donate to support the conservation of marine turtles in the camps located at El Dorado Royale, a Spa Resort, El Dorado Seaside Suites and Azul Sensatori México, by Karisma.
Working alongside local Communities: We have included the Pitahí jams for our guests’ breakfasts in all our properties. These jams are elaborated by women Mayan Community in Chumpón, at the Quintana Roo state. We support and help moving forward this microbusiness that elaborates high quality local products while preserving their lifestyle.
Recycling Makes Sense Program: A project proposed by a collaborator is selected in every property to support a health, education, leisure, or social development necessity for one of the members of his family or community. The money to finance these projects has its source on the recycling of plastic and aluminum that every collaborator brings from their houses with a support from the hotel. Through this program, we execute the company’s Values and we learn the value of the recycling to solve the necessities of our co-workers.

hanks to Recycling Makes Sense Program, with the project named “Knowing the world through other senses, listen with the heart”, we delivered hearing aids to the 15 years old Katia María Naranjos González, daughter of Diana González Rodríguez, collaborator at the El Dorado Maroma, a Beachfront Resort, by Karisma. Diana González Rodríguez was born in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo and has spent approximatively two years working as a Bar Waitress. Her daughter Katia suffers
from hypoacusis on her ears since she was 6 years old, which was causing her mother a deep concern. When she heard about the Recycling Makes Sense Program, she did not doubt on asking the support her daughter needed, recovering the faith on her daughter’s hearing improvement. ince April we have started the Internal Communication campaign Komunica Hoy (Kommunicate Today) with the aim for all our collaborators to be aware of our business and the services we provide, giving us the tools we need to promote nonpackage sales. The campaign consist on a daily diffusion shared by e-mail and broadcasted by short video clips on the employee’s canteens, and its included on the daily, but mostly it is shared by General Managers and members of the Executive and Operations Committees during their briefings. The campaign started in Jamaica and Colombia (in Cartagena de Indias) on July with specific messages for those locations.

t is very common for our guests during their stays to dial 0 to solve doubts, and it is perfectly normal, who does not dial the operator every time a doubt comes to mind, or requires any room service? That is why the phone department is one of the main arteries of information inside the hotel. Our Phone department co-workers work patiently and with passion and joy for providing service. They are constantly in touch with the Room Division department to offer an excellent service. The need of giving the guests an immediate and satisfactory answer makes that our colleagues in the Phone department must know everything around, from the ingredients of a specific dish to how the Jacuzzi or the remote control work. To have an optimal function, the duties are divided according to the working timetable. The on night guard is in charge of the exact schedule of next day activities, in order to achieve an excellent day for the guest, being in charge of the wake up calls or the timetables for the Bell-boy to pick up the baggage. This requires great organization skills. Among others, telephone operators´ main tasks are to follow up complaints, provide weather information, take orders, help in case of emergencies, make courtesy calls on check-in and check-out, ask guests if they had any inconveniences, find out if there is something they can be offered before departure and if their stay was comfortable, and finally asking them to leave their comments on TripAdvisor.
Their biggest challenges come when emergencies happen. When the guest has an emergency, the first step is to call the operator. That is the reason why our telephones team must be prepared to deal with any situation. This is a hot department. The phone team at Azul Sensatori Mexico, by Karisma, shared that they were struggling with colleagues´ curiosity. When a complicated situation occurred, colleagues from other areas were used to call in the middle of the crisis asking what was happening, blocking the lines, thus reducing their responsiveness. They had asked all the staff not involved with the contingencies´ solution to avoid saturating phone lines and radio channels. Co-workers understood the request and now they have a better emergency culture. We can consider the Phone department as a seedbed for talent, due to their information management and the knowledge they must develop on the hotel’s services, as well as the coordination they require to develop among co-workers from other areas to satisfy the guests’ needs. It is not just about answering phones with a perfect English and a warm pitch, it is about being one of the main contact with guests, which will largely impact on their experience in our hotels and resorts. That is the reason for us to recognize and thank our Phone department colleagues for their great work.

H
ow did I get to El Dorado Seaside Suites? Well, just asking is there any waitress vacancy? The Security Officer in the entry said no, and I immediately answered that I just had been told there was one, and that I already had the experience since I had worked at the Dorado Hotels. So he let me in. My surprise came when I was interviewed by the Human Resources lady. -I know you, she told me. -Yes, I answered, from El Dorado Royale. -Of course, Guadalupe, you have got the job Since my goal was to be part of the hotel, I was so happy when she sent me to the next interview and she marked in my application form “worked at Casitas”. I passed to the second interview, the housekeeper who worked there back then told me –You have enough experience, you worked at Casitas, you are hired. I did not imagine I would find familiar faces as Mr. Sagrero, Mr. Wilbert, some concierge girls, but the biggest shock was finding Ms. Paula Negrete. I felt like home and since then I work and live as if I was home, and meet my guests as if they were home. I take care of them with love and kindness, because this is how I really live my job. My mom used to say “if you are going to do things, do them all right or do not do them at all.”
This is forged in my mind and it is one of the values I like the most, besides from honesty, loyalty, and keeping a positive attitude. The passion for our jobs and what we do are values we bring from home. Things must not be said, but done and lived. Things can be told to you endlessly but, how do you live them? One can go through life without making any difference; you must make sense. My mission here is to achieve that guests acknowledge this hotel as one of the best they have ever visited, and therefore, recommend us. My goal has always been to appear on TripAdvisor’s comments and until now, I have managed to, so I can give my two cents to the hotel that has given everything to me. I tried for supervisor but then I discovered that my thing is to provide that service I like, and I do it with passion. I like the guests to leave with a unique experience they will always remember. When a coworker really gives everything from himself and gest promoted, I swear I love it because one must be where he really wants to, and I am sure this is my place to be. With love: Guadalupe.
