El consumo de energéticos en los hoteles de Karisma Hotels & Resorts es un indicador que mide el desempeño de cada unidad de negocio. En términos operativos, los hoteles han implementado programas de eficiencia para uso de recursos, que van desde la concienciación hacia el uso de estos, hasta proyectos de inversión. Uno de los ejemplos más notables que Karisma Hotels & Resorts está actualmente implementando en términos de eficiencia energética, es el cambio de calderas de gas LP para calentamiento de agua, a calderas a base de biomasa. Al concluir este cambio, se estima que se generará un ahorro, dependiendo del hotel, de hasta el 25% en el presupuesto que actualmente se destina a la compra de combustibles con un Retorno de Inversión en 18 meses, una disminución de más del 80% de las emisiones de gases efecto invernadero por calentamiento de agua y una eficiencia en el calentamiento de agua superior en aproximadamente 15% al método anterior. Este es un claro ejemplo de cómo se evalúan proyectos que permitan alcanzar las metas y disminuir la huella ecológica de los hoteles.

Igualmente se ha firmado en 2019 un contrato con Grupo Dragon, para el suministro a partir de septiembre de 2020 de energía eléctrica 100% de origen renovable. Dragon está construyendo una planta para generación de energía Eólica que suministrará el 95% del consumo actual de los hoteles ubicados en Riviera Maya, lo que significará disminuir hasta en un 90% la emisión de gases efecto invernadero, aunado al ahorro en costes por ser menor la tarifa de esta energía. Por último, en el hotel en República Dominicana se inició la instalación de una planta fotovoltaica que proveerá al hotel de energía limpia y ayudará a disminuir de forma considerable la huella de carbono por consumo de energía en ese destino. Energy consumption in Karisma Hotels & Resorts is an indicator that measures the performance of each business unit. In operational terms, the hotels have implemented efficiency programs for the use of resources, ranging from awareness to the use of these, to investment projects. One of the most notable examples that Karisma Hotels & Resorts is currently implementing in terms of energy efficiency in Mexico’s hotels, is the change from LP gas boilers for water heating to biomass based boilers. Upon completion of this change, it is estimated that savings will be generated, depending on the hotel, of up to 25% in the budget that is currently allocated to the purchase of fuels with a Return on Investment in 18 months, a decrease of more than 80% of greenhouse gas emissions from water heating and an efficiency in water heating of approximately 15% higher than the previous method. This is a clear example of how projects are evaluated to achieve the goals and reduce the ecological footprint of the hotels.

Likewise, a contract with Grupo Dragon was signed in 2019, for the supply of 100% renewable electrical energy. Dragon is building a wind power generation plant that will supply 95% of the current consumption of hotels located in the Riviera Maya, which would mean reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%, coupled with lower cost savings the rate of this energy. Lastly, the installation of a photovoltaic plant began in the hotel in the Dominican Republic that will provide the hotel with clean energy and help to considerably reduce the carbon footprint of energy consumption in that destination.
