Bernstein Family Torah Dedication & Celebration NOVEMBER 22, 2015
What Happens at a Torah Dedication? The dedication of a new Torah scroll is marked with great festivity. The celebration begins with the last letters in the Torah being completed by the sofer (scribe). Next, the Torah is welcomed into the community just as one welcomes a bride and groom. Accordingly, the scroll will be carried under a chuppah during a processional at Torah Day School. When the Torah reaches the Beis Medrash at TDSA, there is a hakafos ceremony including joyous dancing similar to Simchas Torah. The Torah is then placed in the Aron (Ark), its new home. The ceremony concludes with a festive reception.

Our Sages have taught that each and every Jew has a letter in the Torah which corresponds to his or her soul and spiritual identity. If one letter is missing, the Torah is incomplete and no longer valid. Similarly, each and every Jew constitutes an integral and irreplaceable part of the Jewish people. A Torah connects one generation to the next. Your participation in TDSA’s Torah will connect you to the newest link in our holy and eternal chain.
