STUDY OF GANDHI MARKET AND ITS PREMISES
Trichy is the geographic centre and CBD of Tamilnadu which pulls people from neighbouring districts. Trichy, being a culturally strong city, also functions as an educational hub.
Study area divided into 8 zones
The adjoining roads of the site connect the neighboring cities like Tanjore, Madurai, Coimbatore and many more. The site not only has the potential to bring in people from various places but it is also potential enough to connect the immediate context and users.

Project Brief “ If you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic. If you plan for people and places, you get people and places.” - Fred Kent, Project for Public Spaces What if a place exists without people? Or can people be without place? A real city is a place where people imbibe, relate and grow themselves with the surrounding for their betterment.
The focus of the studio titled “ People & Place ” is to design an Architectural Urban Insert at Gandhi Market which is the heart of the city where the elements of place and their relationships with people are much evident. Gandhi market acts as a major node and a landmark when people move around the city. It is one of the major economic hub in Trichy. The exchanges happening between vendors, hawkers, floating people and busy traffic routes makes it less interactive and not used by the immediate users. Task - To study and document the exiting Gandhi market which is about to be relocated by the government and to design an intervention by understanding the urban fabric through inferences from the study.

INSUBSTANTIAL SPACES
The sense of space is not particularized by the enclosing walls but exists throughout like a scent hovers in a particular place. The tangible boundaries becomes intangible by many factors governing that place. Few of them can be Deflection, Enclave, Narrows, Closure, Enclosure.
Enclaves
Creating mentally and physically comfort spaces that cuts of the noise, conjustion of the street brings people together.

As the streets unfold creating pause points that acts as enclosures.
Deflection
A variation on the vista is deflection in which the object is deflected from the right angle, that creates expectation & curiousity.

SITE PLANNING CONCEPTS - RELATING WITH IMMEDIATE USER AND THRESHOLDS
In respose to the immediate context and users the edge of the site is made porous and functionally dynamic. This edge accomodates the major hawkers and a promenade for its maximum usage and reduces conjustion around the site.
An ideal public space in a city, should have a dynamic character which changes, with people to people and time to time. The plan has a multi-layered character which changes from the outer edge to its core similar to the srirangam concentric plan.

The people in the public space is allowed to fill the edges and to sprawl into the voids around the building and finally to the central large open space.

DEATH OF ARCHITECTURE EXHIBIT For the national level expo happened in sixteen cities all over India around February 2018 certain many architects are about present a their view on a city from the perspective of death of architecture. Our perspective is that a city never dies,there might be historical places within a city and on the contrary there might be malls and other recently built modern buildings but whatever comes and goes the city lives. While looking at the representation point of view the miniature drawings of Islamic Paintings are used to capture things better.
