Established in the year 1986, the Department of Civil Engineering has the distinction of being the oldest department of the University and has equipped over 3,000 Civil Engineers with technical expertise for the Industry, R&D and academic Institutions over the decades.

KITS has collaborated with SUEZ Projects Ltd, to work on the 24 x 7 water supply scheme for Smart City Coimbatore. KITS is recognized as the Academic Partner by SUEZ and an Industrial laboratory is set-up on campus for carrying out research on urban water supply system. The MoU with L &T facilitates Industry offered courses. The Department has also collaborated with CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur to undertake research in the area of atmospheric pollution. The department was recognized by NASA, USA for the installation of an AERONET (AErosol RObotic NETwork) facility in 2014, to continuously measure the spectral Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) and perceptible water in aerosol regimes. The department is recognized as a nodal center for capacity building initiatives by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) – ISRO outreach programme.
