KARUNYA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY & SCIENCES INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY POLICY EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This document brings out the conditions under which access to the network and computing resources at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, herein after mentioned as KITS or Institute, are granted to users. This covers all services and resources provided through KITS, either through the Computer Technology Centre (CTC) or through any individual department. This document is subject to revision from time to time without advance notice. Anyone who needs to use computing or network resources / equipment through the KITS must agree to the conditions of this policy. If anyone does not agree with any provisions of this document, the access to the facilities shall be withdrawn by the CTC. The salient features of this document are summarized as follows: 1. These policy statements are framed in line with the guidelines of the Government of India and are subject to interpretation in the light of the existing laws of this country. 2. The primary usage of IT resources is for academic and research purposes. In case of any conflict of interest, academic usage shall be given priority over non-academic requirements. 3. Each individual is given a login account for this purpose, using which, they can authorize/access either the network or other resources. The user is solely responsible for any use/misuse of these resources, including any malicious or illegal material that may result in the course of activities. 4. The use of the account of another person, with or without permission, is not allowed under any circumstances and shall be liable for suspension of accounts followed by penal action. 5. Public access machines, such as those found in laboratories, are not to be used for downloading or storing any material that may be objectionable to the Institute/any other user. 6. Sharing or hosting material that is objectionable or illegal in any form shall not be permitted and be liable for penalty, leading to disciplinary action from the Institute or referral to cyber-crime authorities; any legal issues resulting from such misuse shall solely be the responsibility of the individual concerned. 7. The Institute shall permit the use of only licensed software and users of pirated/ unauthorized software shall be liable for punishment/legal action; and all financial liabilities arising out of this misuse shall be borne by the user. 8. The guidelines on online examination/tests/assessment provided as part of digital reforms by the Institute shall be followed in toto and any deviation from the guidelines shall be subject to enquiry and punishment, if necessary. The users shall undertake their online examinations with utmost integrity using the software/remote proctoring tools identified by the Institute. 9. To maintain privacy and to reduce the threat of crime protecting KITS premises and safety of all the staff members, students and visitors, the video surveillance system shall be utilized. 10. The policy for replacement of provision of IT accessories such as computer/laptop/ printer/router/server and other network components shall be provided by the Institute for all the emergency purposes.
