1. PREAMBLE In an educational institution, examination process is an important yardstick to evaluate the subject knowledge and skills gained by the students. It also provides feedback to the faculty members to improve their teaching skills. Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (KITS) has proven ability and an efficient system for conducting all the examinations. Office of the Controller of Examination has adequate facilities and resources to conduct the examinations and publish the results in a systematic manner. Evaluation is done on the basis of both Continuous Internal Assessment and End Semester Examinations. By using the well-designed ERP – Eduserve, the faculty can key-in internal assessment and end semester marks and laboratory examination marks within a stipulated time. Final results are announced within 15 working days of the last examination. KITS aspires: a) To conduct examinations in a fair manner and in accordance with the regulations of the University Grants Commission (UGC). b) To uphold the dignity of the Institution through integrity and internal standards of the examination process. 2. SUBJECT REGISTRATION: 1) The Controller of Examination (CoE) obtains the data on Newly Admitted/ Readmitted students from the Eduserve. 2) The arrear subjects available in the Eduserve are automatically migrated/ registered as arrear courses for the relevant semester. 3) The CoE shall have the privilege of downloading the subject registration details (Theory, Labs, Self-Study, Half/Full Semester Projects) in the format given in Annexure 1.
3. PROCESS OF ONLINE INTERNAL EXAMINATIONS a) Time table: 1) The internal examination dates shall be as per the Institution Academic Calendar. 2) The CoE shall have the right and privilege to configure the dates of the internal examinations to the system. 3) The internal examination shall be scheduled one per day per student as far as possible. If it is not possible, two examinations shall be scheduled for the same day. Online Examination Policy

4) The internal examination time table for the students shall be generated only if there is no fee due and the examination time table for the students be displayed on the Examination webpage (Annexure 2).
b) Examination Process: 1) The HoD concerned shall allot the course coordinator for setting the question paper if the course is handled by more than one faculty. 2) The details of course coordinator and time table are captured into the “Exam manager (EM)” login portal (www.exam.karunya.edu/manager) by the Assistant Controller of Examinations (ACOE) and maintained by the Computer Technology Centre (CTC). 3) Each faculty has individual login facility in EM with OTP secure password system to capture the questions into EM Portal (Annexure 3).
c) Conduct of Online Internal Assessment (IA): 1) The internal examination shall be conducted in the forenoon and afternoon sessions for a duration of 30 minutes. The CoE shall have the privilege of customizing the examination timings for the forenoon and afternoon sessions. 2) The online examinations are conducted using Karunya Examination Platform (KEP) with the web link www.kep.karunya.edu maintained by CTC (Annexure 4). 3) Login credentials are sent to the students one day before the examination by the CTC team. The KEP portal shall be enabled 15 minutes before the schedule of the examination for the students to login. 4) The Lockdown Browser embedded with the KEP shall restrict the use of other web pages, softwares in their computer. 5) The online examinations shall be monitored through AI based remote proctoring system and scrutinized by a committee of faculty members. 6) Students shall be assisted with a separate help desk operating at CTC to provide technical support in using the online KEP.

4. ONLINE INTERNAL EXAMINATIONS - MARKS POLICY: 1) Best two IA marks will be considered for all students. 2) For the students who write the end semester examination but missed both the IA, only the end semester examination marks will be considered for the award of degrees. 5. LABORATORY COURSE: Virtual laboratory examinations are conducted using Remote Lab, NMEICT Virtual Labs, Flowsquare, GNU Radio, LogicSim, Open Simulation Interface and Verilator etc. a) HALF SEMESTER PROJECT/ FULL SEMESTER PROJECT: 1) The details of half semester/ full semester projects are registered in the Eduserve. 2) The internal (3 reviews) and final review marks shall be downloaded from Eduserve by the CoE office after the last working day.
b) INDUSTRY CONNECT (Mini Project/ Summer Internship/ Industrial Training): 1) The mini project/ summer internship/ industrial training shall be registered in the Eduserve under the project coordinators. 2) The details of registered half semester/ full semester projects are collected from Eduserve. 3) For mini-projects, the marks of periodical review and final review shall be downloaded from Eduserve by the CoE office after the last working day of the semester. 4) For summer internship/ industrial training, the final review marks shall be consolidated and submitted to the CoE office within first 15 working days of the semester.
6. END SEMESTER EXAMINATION PROCESS:
a) Arrear Examination Process: 1) HoD shall allot faculty for setting question papers for arrear courses which are not offered as regular courses. 2) Details of course coordinator and time table can be captured into the EM login portal (www.exam.karunya.edu/manager) by ACOE and maintained by CTC.

b) Time table:
1) The end semester examination dates shall be set as per the Institution Academic Calendar. 2) End semester examination time table shall be released one week prior to the commencement of the examination. The format for time table is to be displayed for students (Annexure 5). 3) End semester examinations shall be scheduled on alternate days as far as possible. 4) Arrear examinations of any student shall be scheduled between regular examinations.
c) Examination Fee:
1) The examination fee per candidate is to be collected per semester. 2) The total examination fee amount shall be calculated and demand created in the Eduserve fee account for each student. 3) The examination fees for the regular courses, arrears and other fee (eg: cost of statement of grade, consolidated certificate, degree certificate, provisional certificate) shall be calculated as per the approved norms and sent to the Finance Section for updating in the students fee account. 4) The end semester examination time table for the student shall be generated only if there is no fee due.
7. PREPARATION FOR THE END SEMESTER EXAMINATION:
a) Question Paper:
For regular courses, the course faculty concerned shall upload question papers in the provision made in EM system. If more than one faculty member are handling the subject, the HoD shall nominate a faculty member to upload the question paper, and provision shall be made for the respective faculty member only.

b) Conduct of Online End Semester Examination:
1) The online end semester examination shall be conducted in the forenoon and afternoon sessions for a duration of 120 minutes. i. The CoE shall have the privilege of customizing the examination timings for the forenoon and afternoon sessions. 2) The online exams are conducted using KEP with the web link www.kep.karunya.edu maintained by CTC. 3) Login credentials shall be sent to the students one day before the examination by the CTC team. The KEP portal shall be enabled 15 minutes before the schedule of examination for the students to login. 4) The Lockdown Browser embedded in the KEP restricts the use of other web pages, softwares in their computer. 5) The online examinations shall be monitored through AI based remote proctoring system and scrutinized by a committee of faculty members. 6) Students shall be assisted with a separate help desk operating at CTC to provide technical support in using the online KEP. 7) Cases of malpractice are consolidated and punishment given as per the Institution examination policy. 8) Attendance is downloaded course wise and consolidated by the CoE through KEP login. 9) Absentee details shall be entered in the system.
c) Evaluation:
1) Marks will be imported to the Karunya online faculty platform in the webpage link www.online.karunya.edu by the CTC (Annexure 6). 2) Marks downloaded from the Karunya online faculty platform shall be entered by the faculty in the Eduserve portal after the completion of scrutiny. 3) Evaluated marks shall be downloaded course-wise and consolidated by the CoE through KEP login for scrutiny.

d) Result Processing:
1) The internal and end semester marks can be obtained from the Eduserve. 2) Grading shall be calculated (Absolute) as per the CBCS policy mentioned in Annexure 7. 3) Minimum requirement to pass in the end semester examination is given in Annexure 8. 4) One mark moderation shall be given at the end semester or total marks to attain minimum requirement for passing in the examination. 5) From the second attempt onwards, the internal marks shall or shall not be considered for result calculation. Only 45% for UG and 50% for PG in the end semester examinations shall be considered for passing. 6) When the student is absent for the first time, it shall be considered as withdrawal, provided the candidate does not have a history of arrears. This privilege shall be given only once during the entire course of study. 7) Necessary reports shall be generated for the Result Passing Board meeting. Year-wise pass percentage, batch-wise pass percentage, subject-wise pass percentage reports are generated. The format is given in Annexure 9. 8) The Result Passing Board shall consist of the following members: Vice-Chancellor

9) The minutes of the Result Passing Board shall be prepared and signed by all the members. 10) After implementing the decisions taken in the Result Passing Board, the result shall be published. The results shall be published as per the format given in Annexure 10.

9. SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATION:
1) Supplementary examination is conducted during the even semester for the final year and for the students who left Karunya with arrears. 2) Students can apply for a maximum of six subjects for the supplementary examination. 3) All the procedures mentioned for the end semester examination shall be followed for the supplementary examinations also.
10. UPLOADING THE RESULTS
The Controller of Examinations shall have the privilege of uploading the results in Eduserve after the revaluation results are published.
