MATHABATHA WHO DISCOVERED MORINGA DIED!
By Thapelo Motseo THE dark cloud is hanging over the Mathabatha family and the entire province of Limpopo after the passing away of the prominent business woman, Mavis Mathabatha Mathabatha came to the country spot light after discovering the Moringa Tree (also known as the Miracle Tree), an African indigenous nutritious plant with healing properties. The awards winning Mathabatha who was reported to have passed away earlier this week came to the spot in 2005 when she gave up her lucrative business interest to establish a community based project, Sediko Sa Lerato, a drop-in Centre for the Orphans and vulrenable children at Tooseng village in Ga-Mphahlele
near Lebowakgomo. At Sediko Sa Lerato, which was feeding 249 orphans in its early days (two means per day per child), Mathabatha managed to alleviate the high levels of poverty and unemployment among most of community members while at the same time providing the local children with a safe place. In a quest to provide the children with better nutrition, Mathabatha investigated a friend’s suggestion that Moringa tree was a powerful source of nutrients as the leaves of the tree provides a high level nutritious supplements that can be harvested and ground into powder and added to meals. She later in 2006 began to plant moringa trees at the Sediko Sa Lerato yard, and the results as effected on children’s physical and mental well-being
prompted motivated her to expand the moringa project which saw her planted 6000 trees and had employed more than 50 staff members. Most of the families around in her communities started to benefit from these trees and today her products are in demand in the country and the neighbouring states. Among other achievements in her life include winning Women of the Year award from the department of Agriculture and Farming, New Entrant Into Commercial Farming by Agriculture Witers South Africa (both in 2010) before she could cap her glorious good works with Inyathelo Award for Philanthropy in Food Security in 2013. Mathabatha died was expected to be laid to rest in Lebowakgomo on Saturday, August 11.

By Agreement Ntjana 24 years down the line into democracy, yet the residents of Nkotokwane village near Ga-Nkwane are still cut from the outside world. The majority of residents in that village are working and schooling at Apel, but the problem is they have to negotiate their way through by crossing the mighty Lepelle River. With no access road nor a bridge to go and meet their obligations across the river, residents told Lepelle Review that it is disturbing that they always have to get into the water to cross to Apel on a daily basis. “This is very bad, even worse during the raining seasons because we must cross the river to schools and work places.
Most of the times the water level is too high and we are unable to go to works and schools,” said one resident who spoke on anonymity. Another resident who did not want to be named said: “We have severally ask local municipality to construct an access bridge, but our plea is seemed to have fallen on deaf ears as we never received any respond from them.” Another resident said accessing health facilities is a mission as well. “There is a mobile clinic that comes a few times in a week and sometimes because of the overflowing river we are unable to go to clinic when the mobile clinic did not come. We are pleading with the government to please hear us out on this matter."

Mathabatha urges women to speak out on abuse By Maredi Lebogang
THE premier of Limpopo, Stan Mathabatha has encouraged women to report the incidents of abuse to their church pastors and traditional leaders. Addressing the masses at Tibane Sports Stadium in the Matlala area outside Polokwane on Women’s Day (Thursday, May 9), Mathabatha warned police officers not to turn away women who report cases of abuse.
“Police must act accordingly when cases of women and child abuse are reported. We must call on law enforcement officers to improve their response time to incidents of domestic violence, and this include child and women abuse,” said Mathabatha who added that it is the responsibility of the courts to adjudicate on the cases. He added that: “Police should stop their tendency of turning back victims of alleged abuses
just because they assume that there is no sufficient evidence in such cases or sometimes they simply say there is no case here.” Mathabatha has also encouraged women to report the incidents of abuse to their church pastors and traditional leaders. Leopards and Baroka lead the way in Limpopo as Polokwane City fumbles
By Nakampe Lekwadu BLACK Leopards are leading the way in terms of some early results ahead of Baroka and Polokwane City in the Absa Premiership. The three clubs are representing Limpopo in the top flight league with Leopards still new in the top flight league after they returned through the recent Promotional/Relegation Play-Offs. With the first two matches played so far, Lidoda Duvha have collected four points out of the possible six. This after they won their first match at home at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, beating cross-town rivals, Polokwane City 1-0 in the Limpopo Derby before they could played to a 2-2 draw away to
fellow rookies mid-week, Highlands Park away in Thembisa to comfortably occupy the 6th position on the log with four points. Following on Leopards’ footsteps is Baroka who started their first match on a sour note, losing 1-0 away to AmaZulu but only to regroup and beat the hard to predict side, Cape Town City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium mid-week. Bakgaga are on position 7th with three points. On the other hand, Polokwane City remain at the bottom rock on the log after they failed to impress in their first two matches. Rise and Shine who replaced Bernard Molekwa with Josef Vukusic as their new head coach before the new season kick off lost their first match to Leopards, then went on to go down 2-0 at home to the visiting league defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns. Leopards’s next league match will be away to Chippa United on August 18 at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London, but before that, the province will witness a big match when Baroka welcoming Kaizer Chiefs at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on August 14. take on Baroka FC on August 18.
