2 THE year is almost over, and this is our second last edition before we can go to festive holidays to gain more strength for next year. The recent months have been not good for a number of coaches after they were shown an exit door by various clubs in both the National First Division and the Absa Premiership. That Orlando Pirates have parted ways with Muhsin Ertugral is history, and also following suit were Allan Freese at Highlands Park,

Roger de Sa at Bidvest Wits and Jacky Ledwaba from Magesi FC just to mention few. On a positive note though, we would like to congratulate BidVest Wits for winning the MTN 8 and Mamelodi Sundows who lost to the same Wits but went on to lift the CAF African Champions League. We look forward to the semi-finals of Telkom Knockout which takes place this weekend (November 26) in Cape Town and Nelspruit.

Thank you : Amanda

BANYANA Banyana goalkeeper Andile Dlamini is grateful for the opportunity she was given - to represent her country at a very high level. Dlamini played a pivotal role in South Africa’s goalless draw against neighbours Zimbabwe in the opening match of the 2016 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Yaounde, Cameroon on Saturday night (19 November). This was her second clean sheet in three matches – the first was against the same Zimbabwe in a 3-0 victory a few weeks ago (prior to this they defeated Egypt 3-1). “The pace of the match was very fast and the Mighty Warriors really came at us. We know that playing Zimbabwe is never an easy task, as they always believe they have a point to prove against us,” said Dlamini. “I am happy I managed to keep a clean sheet although there were moments in the match, where I was under pressure and I was bombarded in the 6 yard area. As the last line of defence, I had to ensure that my game was on point. I must also congratulate my defence because at the

end of the day this is all about teamwork. We did well and I am confident we will do even better against Cameroon.” The Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies goal minder has been with the national team for a long time but has often been the second choice. “I have been part of the Banyana Banyana set up for many years now, but this was my first official match in a tournament. I am really grateful to the technical team for the opportunity I was given, and I am also glad I did not let them down. Gratitude also goes to my goalkeeper coach Alex Heredia for instilling more confidence in me. Yolula Tsawe (the goalkeeper on the bench on match day) also encouraged me throughout the game, and ensured that I stay calm – as I said it’s all about teamwork,” added Dlamini. The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana will next face hosts Cameroon. The clash was expected to be played on Tuesday (November 22) at Stade Ahmadou Ahijdo in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Amajita ready

THE South African Under-20 Men’s National Team, Amajita, will face Kenya in an international friendly match on November 26 The clash takes place at the Tsakane Stadium, in Ekurhuleni on the East Rand (Johannesburg). Kick-off is at 3pm. South Africa is using the match to prepare for the 2016 COSAFA u20 Cup which will be held in Rustenburg, North West Province from December 7 – 16. At the tournament, Amajita have been drawn in Group A alongside Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana. South Africa are the defending champions after beating Kenya 2-0 in the final in Lesotho three years ago. Kenya came into the tournament as guests. Amajita will face Lesotho in the opening match of the COSAFA u20 Cup at the Moruleng Stadium on December 7. Kick-off is at 7.30pm. South Africa will lock horns against Swaziland in their second fixture, while Lesotho will go toe to toe with Botswana. The matches will take place at the Moruleng Stadium, on December 9 with a kick-off of 2pm and 11am respectively. The final group stage clashes will be played on December 12. Amajita will host Botswana at the Moruleng Stadium and Lesotho will be up against Swaziland at the Mogwase Stadium – both encounters kick off at 5pm.

ABSA Premiership gets hot BIDVEST Wits consolidated their position at the top of the Absa Premiership table after the weekend round of action, while there were gains for Lamontville Golden Arrows and Cape Town City at the summit. Mamelodi Sundowns won the big game of the weekend when they ousted Kaizer Chiefs, with wins also for Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United. The game everyone was talking about heading into Saturday was the one at Loftus Versfeld Stadium - with the Brazilians coming from a goal down to win 2-1. Former Sundowns star Ramahlwe Mphahlele (39) fired Amakhosi ahead, but goals from Tebogo Langerman (41) and Sibusiso Vilakazi (53) handed the hosts all the points. It was only Sundowns’ fourth league game of the season after their successful CAF Champions League campaign. The result lifted them up to 12th on the table. Elsewhere, Wits extended their lead to two points at the summit after an Eleazar Rodgers (20) penalty gave them a 1-0 win over Platinum Stars in Rustenburg. The Students now have 19 points from seven matches, two more than Arrows, who regained second by beating Highlands Park by the same scoreline in Tembisa - Danny Phiri (85) netting the decisive strike. Like Arrows, Cape Town City also have 17 points from nine matches following their 2-1 triumph over Chippa United in Port Elizabeth. Lebogang Manyama (19) and Judas Moseamedi (73) both scored as

City lead comfortably, before Katlego Mashego (83) set up a frantic finish. SuperSport United slipped to fourth after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Baroka FC in Polokwane. Thabo Mnyamane (37) and Richard Matloga (67) were the two scorers at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. Meanwhile, Chiefs dropped to fifth four points off top spot - with Pirates behind them in sixth after Tendai Ndoro’s (xx) goal gave them a 1-0 win over Free State Stars in Orlando. They are followed by Polokwane City, who drew goalless with Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr. Molemela Stadium, while Maritzburg rounded of the top eight with a 2-1 win over bottom-placed Ajax Cape Town at Cape Town Stadium. Deolin Mekoa (90) scored in stoppage time to steal the points after goals by Lebohang Maboe (46) and Mark Mayambela (80) had cancelled each other out.-www.psl.co.za

Match Officials and Administrators Kick Off SAB

The first day of the SAB League Skills Camp got off to a flying start on Sunday when match officials and league administrators from across the 52 SAFA Regions commenced with their respective courses at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria. A vigorous fitness test was the first assignment of the day for the match officials from as early as 6am under the watchful eye of experienced SAFA instructor, Derek Hansen who regularly conducts fitness tests for highly ranked match officials in the country as well as the rest of the continent. The fitness tests were followed by an in-depth analysis of the Amendments of the Game to ensure that officiating at SAB League level is at the highest standard. Concurrently, aspiring football administrators got underway with their Sports Administration course with a detailed discussion on Governance and Constitutions in Sport leagues and clubs. The five day SAB League

Skills Camp will see the SAB League Coordinators graduating with a Sports Administration certificate while match officials will receive a SAFA Level 4 Coaching Course. ”This was a great start of the course for the match officials. The eagerness and excitement to learn is certainly great for the future of grassroots football development. We need such courses to ensure that officiating at SAB League level is up to standard with what is currently taking place worldwide” said Hansen. Neo Booysen from SAFA Northern Cape is confident that the course will fulfill his objective of empowering his football administration capabilities. ”The first day of the Sports Administration course went very well and I am quite excited about the great amount of knowledge that we have gathered in just a single day. The rest of the week promises to be great and we are thankful for such an opportunity provided by SAB” said Booysen.

PSL applauds SAPS for arresting ticket fraudster THE Premier Soccer League applauds the South African Police Service (SAPS) following the arrest of a man who was found in possession of fraudulent match tickets. The 41-year old man from Snake Park in Doornkop, Soweto was arrested on Saturday night (November 19) at Orlando Stadium before the Absa Premiership fixture between Orlando Pirates and Free State Stars. PSL Head of Safety and Security Phillip Masimong said: “We commend the work of the police who have been working very closely with us in curbing the illegal sale of tickets at our stadiums and the fraudulent activities by some individuals. As the League, we are determined by put an end to this practice but in order for us to be successful, we obviously need the SAPS on board. Hotel Balalaika reinvented

THE Protea Hotel Balalaika, in the heart of Sandton, has reinvented itself many times since starting out life as a countryside tea room during the 1940s – in the period before Sandton even existed. Over the years the hotel has transformed itself from an upmarket dining and dance restaurant, to the tranquil accommodation oasis it is today. And, despite being located at the very epicentre of South Africa’s economic heartland, with tall corporate office buildings and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange surrounding it, the hotel manages to retain its country feel, its terrace overlooking a tranquil and quiet garden area. Recently the Protea Hotel Balalaika has had all its 330 rooms refurbished and fitted with new luxurious carpeting, curtains, throws, scatter cushions and a splash of new paint to

the walls, creating a refreshed look to the grand establishment that all guests can enjoy. Extensive changes to the Village Manor conference room have in essence created an entirely new venue - new carpeting, the installation of a magnificent fireplace and a more ergonomically pleasing floor plan - elevating the venue to one offering the best modern standards. Danny Bryer, Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue Management for Protea Hotels, a proud member of Marriott International, the leading global hotel group, is pleased with the outcome of the renovations, commenting, “The hotel owners investment of R30 million into improving this iconic establishment is bound to produce great returns. The renovations elevate the hotel to a truly in-

ternational, and modern, standard.” The refurbishments follow last year’s bold renovations to the building itself which included, improvements to all the public areas, the reception, Lords Bar, six conferencing rooms, and the installation of new door locks, air conditioners and electronic safes in all the rooms. With all of the following improvements completed to The Protea Hotel Balalaika we can truly say that this is the beginning of a new chapter in the establishment’s history. Mahindra hits all the hig TRUTH be told, when the Mahindra cars first hit the road where not a pretty sight. They also had a myriad of technical problems, giving the owner one headache after another. But all that is in the past as Mahindra went back to the drawing board to bring out some of the most attraction vehicles, with comforts of modern day motoring. Born out of this restrategising is the Mahindra KUV100, which offers everything one needs in a car: up-todate technology, comfort, safety and the body to die for. KUV100 arouses curiosity as it cruises by, making people wonder if they had seen a biggish hatchback or a Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) or a crossover of the two. The KUV100 is strongly built, albeit with fine touches. It therefore qualifies for the category of compact SUVs, more so with its tall and wide appearance. The KUV100 however is not very keen to be boxed like that, boasting features which give it now wow thing about it. These include striking colours, wraparound headlamps, trendy daytime running lamps and chrome-accented front and rear fog lamps. The KUV100s good looks are further enhanced with the distinctive highline rear door handles, sporty spiderdesign alloy wheels, rear spoiler and stylish roof rails, whilst protective cladding on the sides of the body and on the wheel arches complete the authentic SUV look. Technology The KUV100 is all about comfort and convenience designed with you in mind, and backed up by accessible technology at every level. The

infotainment centre with integrated driver information system and crystal-clear TFT display provides for Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, hands-free calling and steering-mounted controls for audio and phone. There are 12V power outlets in both front and second row. Safety The KUV100 is all about safety too, with dual front airbags, child safety locks on the rear doors, and automatic hazard lights on emergency braking. The robust monocoque construction envelops the driver

and their passengers in a protective frame whilst ensuring superior ride and handling. Anti-lock braking (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Corner Braking Control (CBC) is standard across all variants. Dual rear fog lamps will ensure you are visible in low-visibility conditions. For personal safety, all the doors feature puddle lamps to illuminate your getting in-and-out of the vehicle in the dark, whilst the time-delayed follow-me-home headlamps will remain on long enough to show you the way to your door.

Mark sings praise for Seabelo and Rasta

THE president of SA Rugby, Mark Alexander has congratulated the three South Africans, Seabelo Senatla, Rasta Rasivhenge and Jean de Villiers, who walked away with honours in various categories at the prestigious World Rugby Awards in London on Sunday night. Senatla became the third South African to be crowned the World Rugby Men’s Sevens Player of the Year, in association with HSBC, when he edged out Fiji’s Osea Kolinisau and Virimi Vakatawa of France for the top award. He scored 66 tries in 10 events in the 2015/16 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, which was the second-highest in the 17-year history of the series, before adding four more tries at the 2016 Olympic

Games in Rio. “Seabelo gave us many reasons to smile during the last Sevens Series and all of us involved in South African rugby are very proud of this humble and hard-working young man,” said Mr Alexander. “But rugby is a team sport and I’m sure Seabelo will be the first to give credit to his team-mates – the Blitzboks had a great season and we can’t wait for the next series to start, as the challenge will be a great one to take things one step further.” Rasivhenge shared the World Rugby Referee Award with Alhambra Nievas from Spain. They had the honour of refereeing the men’s and women’s Olympic gold medal matches in Rio to bring the curtain down

on an impressive season of Sevens rugby. The speedy South African referee, who officiated on both the men’s and women’s series and took charge of the men’s finals in Sydney and Las Vegas, was nominated with Nievas and South Africa’s Jaco Peyper and Jérôme Garcès of France. “Rasta, who won our own Outsurance Referee Award a few weeks ago, was rewarded for hours and hours of very hard work and we’re proud of him, but also of Jaco and all our other match officials,” said Mr Alexander. Finally, Mr Alexander paid tribute to former Springbok captain Jean de Villiers, who received the International Rugby Players’ Association’s Special Merit Award. De Villiers, who played 109 Tests for South Africa, brought the curtain down on a 13-year international career after breaking his jaw at Rugby World Cup 2015. He captained the Boks in 37 Tests and scored 27 tries for the Springboks. “When people speak of Jean, he is always referred to as a gentleman and a true ambassador for our country – and I fully agree with those sentiments,” said Mr Alexander. “It’s humbling to see one of our finest players honoured by World Rugby in this way and he’s fully deserving of this award as he has represented the best values of our game in many countries during his illustrious career.” Also on Monday night, New Zealand scooped the three main awards – the All Blacks were named Team of the Year, Steve Hansen was crowned Coach of the Year and Beauden Barrett was named the Player of the Year.
