2016/17 Free Courses

for North Manchester residents with an M8, M9, and M40 postcode


Hello and welcome to Manchester Communication Academy’s Adult and Community Learning Programme 2016/17. We have some fantastic learning opportunities on offer including some courses which are new to MCA for this year such as Level 1 (AAT) Accountancy and some old favourites including cookery and IT. Most of our courses are included in this leaflet, but please get in touch with us if there are any courses you are interested in that aren’t included as we are always looking for new ideas! The majority of our courses are free for those aged 18+ living in M8,M9 and M40 postcode areas. Introduction to Cookery This course will provide learners with a range of cookery techniques and skills. All ingredients will be provided, and alternative vegetarian options will be available. Food Safety in Catering Level 1/Level 2 These qualifications are essential for those who would like to volunteer or gain employment in a catering or hospitality role. Get Connected/IT for Beginners These courses will provide learners with basic and intermediate IT skills for personal use or for employment. Laptop computers are provided, but learners may bring their own if they prefer. First Aid Level 2 This qualification course will equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed for emergency first aid. This is aimed at those who wish to enter voluntary roles or employment. Introduction to Archaeology This course will provide learners with a classroom based introduction to Archaeology for those who are interested in Archaeology as a personal hobby or an area for future study.


Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 1 This qualification course will provide learners with a introduction to accountancy and will enable learners to progress to further accountancy qualifications. Introduction to Business This short course will provide learners with an introduction to principles of business. This course is aimed at those who would like to study business further or would like to gain an understanding of running a business but aren’t sure where to start. Employability through Sport This course will enable learners to gain essential employability skills alongside participating in sessions of boxing or football. The sessions will take place in conjunction with our partners FC United of Manchester and Collyhurst and Moston Boxing Club. FA Level 1 Football Coaching Course This course is for anyone aged 16 and over who wants to become an FA accredited football coach. Radio Production This course will provide learners with an introduction to radio production skills and techniques, with learners being offered the opportunity of producing their own radio show for our partner North Manchester FM. Rosetta Stone Online Language Courses New for 2016/17 - we are delighted to be able to offer learners the chance to learn a new language online here at MCA. There are many languages to choose from including French, German, Spanish, and Italian. Introduction to Gardening and Horticulture This course will provide learners with an introduction to gardening and horticulture. This course is aimed at those who would like to gain an understanding of gardening and horticulture whether for personal gardening or seeking employment. The course will consist of classroom based learning and practical outdoor experience.


Manchester Adult Education Service (MAES) at MCA Our partner MAES will be offering Maths, Teaching Assistant, and Early Years courses at MCA from September 2016. Job Club and Employability Support (YES Manchester) Our partner YES Manchester offer a job club and employability support every Monday afternoon from 1pm until 4pm (no appointment required). YES can help you find a job, training and can help you with a CV or job applications or interviews.
