1 Client Profile
The Logue family have just bought their dream Manhattan home located at 432 Park Avenue. They will be moving into the city after selling their family home in Greenwich, Connecticut. Joseph and Charlotte have one daughter whom has recently graduated High School and has been attending Columbia University in New York City. Joseph is a principal at Booz, Allen, and Hamilton, a management consulting firm, and Charlotte is the C.E.O. of J.P. Morgan & Co. Their live-in house manager, Vinita, has been with the family since Julia was born and will move with them as well. Vinita oversees every aspect of the Logue family’s lives. She will need a suite with a bedroom, bathroom and an office. She will coordinate with housekeepers who will need storage space for their equipment as well as having access to a separate service entrance. Vinita will also assist the private chef, Pierre, in meal planning and ensuring he knows the proper dietary needs of the family. Pierre is in need of a commercial grade kitchen with a large walk in fridge/freezer. Coordination will also be needed with drivers, security, and personal assistants to Joseph and Charlotte. Joseph Logue, aged 56, is a dedicated businessman wanting a home where he could conduct his business in a private office but also relax with his family in a comfortable living space. Along with Charlotte, 52, they enjoy running and cycling in Central Park and wish to have storage for their sporting equipment on the 86th floor. Charlotte also requires an office in the home and space for small gatherings. They entertain monthly for small groups of business partners and personal friends. The dining room and salon should feel welcoming but should allow for upscale events to be held there as well.
Julia will be moving back into the home once construction is finished after spending her first year at Columbia University in the residential dormitories. She has developed strong friendships while at school and wants a space in the home that she can call her own allowing for her friends to spend time without disturbing her parents. Within Julia’s suite, along with her personal bedroom and adjacent bathroom, a guest bedroom, and lounge should be designed as well. During their travels the Logue family has collected upholstery, decorative items, and furniture in the Baroque and Rococo style and wish to incorporate them into their newly design contemporary home. A mixture of these furnishings should be used throughout the residence to allow for a cohesive design while highlighting their precious antiques.
2 Design Program
The Logue family has purchased a home at 432 Park Avenue, a high-end residence, located in New York City. The penthouse will be approximately 6000 square feet and situated on the 86th and 87th floors. Currently the floorplate is an empty shell and the family wants the orientation of the home to be towards the north corner of the building with views of Central Park. The penthouse will be designed with influences from the Baroque and Rococo styles, utilizing antiques the Logue family has collected while traveling in Italy and France, while keeping the home contemporary through the majority of the additional furnishings. The first floor plan should feel open and welcoming to the family as well as their guests, with an easy movement through the salon, dining room, and both home offices. The staff quarters will also be on the lower floor to allow for access through the main service entrance. The kitchen should be shut off from the public areas to have visual and acoustic privacy while guest are visiting.
The bedrooms will be situated on the second level of the home to have a natural barrier between public and private space. The Logue’s college aged daughter Julia is requesting an area to herself so she can entertain friends without disrupting her parent’s relaxation on the weekends. To allow separation the guest bedroom and bathroom should be located between the master suite and Julia’s side of the home.

3 Period Style
“Baroque is often thought of as a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur.
Rococo style is characterized by elaborate ornamentation, asymmetrical values, pastel color palette, and curved or serpentine lines.
4 Design Concept
The Logue’s penthouse is informed and inspired by the historical styles of Baroque and Rococo. Beginning in the mid17th Century in Italy, Baroque was influenced by the Catholic Church and brought about an exuberance to Architecture and Interior Design. Overarching themes in the Baroque style which later evolved into Rococo are the exaggerated motion and easily interpreted details which produce drama and grandeur. Throughout the residence heavy ornamentation will be utilized to envelope the space and add a unifying element to each room in the home. Reminiscent of the Baroque style, high ceilings will be coupled with the rococo feature of lower dados to eliminate human scale. Walls will be adorned with panels and swirling decorative motifs will aim to create tension to the more lively public areas. These public spaces will incorporate a more saturated color palate and transition to a softer hue when moving further into the home.
With the large picture windows, textiles will be draped to frame the views of the city allowing an abundance of light to flow in engaging with the darkness to employ dramatic contrast and shadows. Pale walls and ceilings will reflect the light within the space casting a subtle pastel glow connecting each room. Vaults and arches will be the overarching architectural features to signify dignity and tradition. Complimenting these elements, decorative arts and furnishings will be dispersed through the house in the Rococo style. The subtlety of the lighter color palette and more feminize details will provide a soft elegance being portrayed. This is the very essence in which the family wants to evoke, allowing for a natural combination of both classic styles and their contemporary lifestyle.

As you enter the Salon from the elevator lobby high ceilings with a central dome add depth to the space. Beyond the grand staircase are two tall windows that provide ample natural light to flood the room and reflect off the gilt work. Paneling and shallow relief carvings allow for shadow to create drama in this large reception hall.
View of Salon
The master bedroom is situated on the North -West corner of the penthouse allowing for views of both Central Park and the East River. The room provides a santuary for Joseph and Charlotte to get away after a long day at work. Hanging on the wall are a pair of antique Rococo sconces which coupled with the Cabriole Leg side tables create a juxtaposition to the contemporary lines of the king size bed frame.
View of Master Bedroom
Julia’s Lounge is the entrance to her side of the residence. It is vibrant with teal and melon chinoiserie paneled on the walls and a lit d’alcove adorned with velvet in a rosewood hue. This informal space also connects to a guest suite for college friends to visit for the weekend.
