brave. bold. design.
Always trying to connect with others, I find design to be a platform that is universally appreciated for it’s beauty and function. Through my individual work, the realization that the emphasis one can put on each area of design to better highlight the overall goal of a project, is present. Light and contrast, color and tone, sleek lines and comfortable corners; each can be successful independently but together can create dynamic interiors used by all. Whether it be to provide a third place, the ideal office, or a private home; ideas for each all started with simple bubble flows and have become spaces where memories are made. The goal of design is to create lasting impressions and an environment that will bring communities together.

The Veteran’s Rehabilitation Center’s design is inspired and informed by the characteristics of an octopus, an animal that has many defense mechanisms. This act of rejuvencation references the residential facility’s desired sense of health and wellness. The concept will be demonstrated throug curvilinear lines and the flexibility of the furnishings in both utlization and placement. Primarily, malleable materials will be used to mimic te tendency of an octopus to move organically within it’s surroundings while still holding its inherent shape. SImilar to an octopus changing colors to camouflage itself into its environment, the design will incorporate translucent resources to imitate this phenomena.

The GenSpace corporate office design is informed by the uniqueness of synthetic biology, the primary work done in the state of the art community research laboratory. It is through the practice of deconstruction and reengineering of DNA that the space will emulate for its design. Mimicing how synthetic biology creates seemless transitions when integrating newly introduced characteristics, a overall pleasing pallette will be the foundation for the highly intelligent work to be done. This aesthetic will allow for personalization in each area of the office. A gradation in the mixing of textures, creates a balance that will be reached and an overall harmony will be evoked.

The Logue’s penthouse is informed and inspired by the historical styles of Baroque and Rococo. Beginning in mid-17th Century Italy, Baroque was influence by the Catholic Church and brough about an exuberance to Architecture and Interior Design. Overarching themes in the Baroque style which lated evolved into Rococo are the exaggerated motion and easily interpreted details which produce drama and grandeur. Throughout the residence heavy ornamentation will be utilized to envelope the space and add a unifying element to each room in the home. Reminiscent of the Baroque style, high ceilings will be coupled with the Rococo feature of lower dados to eliminate human scale. Walls will be adorned with panels and swirling decorative motifs will aim to create tension to the more lively public areas. These public spaces will incorporate a more saturated color palate and transition to a softer hue when moving further into the home.

The first floor plan should feel open and welcoming to the family as well as to their guests, with an easy movement through the salon, dining room, and both home offices. The staff quarters will also be on the lower floor to allow for access through the main service entrance. The kitchen should be shut off from the public areas to have visual and acoustic privacy while guest are visiting. The bedrooms will be situated on the second level of the home to have a natural barrier between public and private space. The Logue’s college aged daughter Julia is requesting an area to herself so she can entertain friends without disrupting her parent’s relaxation on the weekends. To allow separation the guest bedroom and bathroom should be located between master suite and Julia’s side of the home.

Southern Comfort: Medical Resort + Spa located in Hilton Head, South Carolina is inspired by a “Low Country Aesthetic that those who vacation in this southern paradise often expect. Paying close attention to detail, utlizing trim and moldings, as well as subdued hues and balancing that with the contrast of natural tones, each level of the facility will integrate together to form a cohesive design. The main entry and lobby space will be reminiscent of an afternoon drive towards a stately plantation. Mimicing the structure and volume one might find when stepping onto the front porch, the lobby will integrate the feeling of being outdoors seemlessly. Along with ample seating along the front facade, a recessed ceiling will help add height and ensure air cirulation to move smoothly throughout. With cooler tones among the palate of these levels, the contrast of natural materials will be drastic but not to overwhelm the visitor.

The Lokal, a boutique hotel located in a contemporary metropolis of Sweden, is inspired by the mass transportation system within the capital. The Stockholm metro connects residents through one-hundred stations with the majority being decorated with sculptures, mosaics, paintings, installations, engravings, and reliefs by over one-hundred and fifty different artists. Using this method for designing the interior of the hotel, various focal points will be present without sacrificing the overall unity. Highlighting the architecture while adding decorative finishes to the space, the hotel will utilize simple and beautiful forms that are structurally organized. Exaggerated proportions will envelope the public areas, contrasting low and heavy stream-lined furnishings with a light density encompassing the volume.
