We have created an exciting journey starting in the cosmopolitan city of Istanbul, at the crossroads of Europe and the Orient. Our itinerary explores some of Turkey’s renowned natural wonders and fascinating sites spanning thousands of years of colourful and rich history. Tour Itinerary Monday – We travel the short distance to Birmingham Airport for our flight to Istanbul. Upon arrival we are transferred to our hotel to relax and settle in. Tuesday – There are hundreds of ancient cisterns hidden underneath the streets of Istanbul and today we pay visit to a sunken palace known as the Basilica Cistern – Istanbul’s most unusual tourist attraction and seen in the James Bond film ‘From Russia with Love’. The afternoon is free to explore the cosmopolitan city, perhaps soak up the atmosphere in the 14th century Grand Bazaar, one of the world’s largest covered markets with 60 streets or for a more relaxed pace opt for a Bosphorus cruise along the strait that separates Europe and Asia. Wednesday – After breakfast we first pay visit to the opulent Topkapi Palace, the largest and oldest palace in the world and home to the Ottoman Sultans from the 15th to the 19th centuries. A truly fascinating visit with its treasury and exotic buildings overlooking The Horn with some of the highlights here being the ‘Spoonmaker’s Diamond’ and the ‘Topkapi Dagger’. From here we walk the short distance to the Hagia Sophia, originally The Church of Devine Wisdom, then a Mosque and now a Museum, famous in particular for its magnificent dome and collection of mosaics. After time for lunch we join our coach and make our way to

Bursa for dinner and our overnight stay. Thursday – We drive to Sardis where you can visit the Roman Gymnasium and Temple of Artemis. From here we continue our journey to our hotel in Pamukkale. Friday – Pamukkale in Turkish means ‘Cotton Castle’ and is the centre of natural thermal spring waters with healing properties. The chemical properties in the water have meant that pure white terraces have formed on the mountain slope with glistening pools which you can bath in amongst the historical remains of Heropolis. From here we make the journey onwards to Kusadasi, via the sacred site of Aphrodisias with its excavated monuments and temple of Aphrodite. Saturday – We travel the short distance to Ephesus
Ephesus – one if the best preserved ancient Roman cities. It was once the trade centre of the ancient world and a religious centre for early Christianity. Our next visit is the nearby House of Virgin Mary, in the hidden greens of Balbul Mountain and suspected to be the place where the Virgin Mary spent her final days. The shrine here was declared a place of pilgrimage for Christians in the 1980’s. We return to Kusadasi where there is an optional excursion to Acropolis. Sunday – After an early departure we journey northwards to Canakkale. With a visit to legendary Troy en-route; a UNESCO World Heritage site destroyed by ‘the face that launched a thousand ships’ during the Trojan War. We continue our journey northwards to our hotel in Canakkale. Monday – We travel to Istanbul and check into our hotel for the final night of our holiday in Turkey. Magical Marrakech You go back in time once you arrive in Marrakech. You can easily imagine the caravanners loading their camels with food, tools and handiwork as you wander through the picturesque alleys of the old town. The souks contain everything that a traveller could want: colour, atmosphere and smells, welcoming and smiling faces. A great winter sun destination. Tuesday – After breakfast we take a journey through the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, just an hour’s journey from the centre of Marrakech. It is the best time to visit as the lush green mountains are in sharp contrast with the snow-capped peaks and rust coloured soils and the valleys are filled with, quince, and olive, prune, walnut and almond trees. We make our way to the weekly Berber market, including a stop to visit the inside of a Berber home. Lunch will be taken in a local restaurant before we make our way back to our hotel in the afternoon. Wednesday – We take in the highlights of Marrakech’s Majorelle Gardens, a twelve-acre botanical garden and artist's landscape garden, designed by the expatriate French artist Jacques Majorelle in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
