WELL DRESSING IN DERBYSHIRE Monday 22nd June The blessing of the water supply, in the form of the well, is an ancient custom which is unique to the Peak District and the surrounding areas such as South Yorkshire and East Staffordshire. The custom had almost died out in the 1950s, but has recently been revived. We visit picturesque Derbyshire to witness the unique tradition of well dressing – a stunning display of elaborate pictures made from flower petals. BOSWORTH HERITAGE CENTRE & KING RICHARD III, Leicestershire Wednesday 28th October We begin at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, which tells the dramatic story of the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, which marked a major turning point in English history. This was the decisive battle in the Wars of the Roses, with the Lancastrians under Henry Tudor winning the day while the Yorkist Richard III lost his horse, his crown and his life. Sadly, Richard’s remains were lost for more than five centuries before being found in one of the greatest archaeological detective stories of all time. Discover his moving story as we visit the Richard III Visitors Centre in Leicester before crossing to Leicester Cathedral where his mortal remains are being prepared to be re-interred in a specially prepared vault below the floor of the cathedral. LUDLOW, Shropshire Monday 18th May Ludlow is a delightful old market town in Shropshire and is full of picturesque black and white timber-framed houses with its Norman Castle standing proudly overlooking the town. Ludlow was a walled town and some of the walls are still in place, and there is one remaining town gate, known as Broad Gate, at the bottom of Broad Street. There are around 500 listed buildings in all with the Grade II listed Feathers Hotel being one of the most photographed buildings in Shropshire. Our visit to Ludlow is on Market Day.

SOUTHWOLD, Suffolk Wednesday 1st July Southwold is a small, charming resort which enjoys a lovely position on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. Despite the Great Fire of 1659, which destroyed a great deal of Southwold the town contains many buildings of interest including the impressive St. Edmund’s Church, and the Southwold Museum. These are worth a visit as are the iconic beach huts for which Southwold is famous. With a safe, sandy beach, working lighthouse, an award-winning pier and a busy harbour, Southwold is a quintessentially English resort.

TENBY, Pembrokeshire Saturday 25th July Tenby is a delightful little harbour town and seaside resort, and it would be difficult to find a setting more picturesque. The original town of Tenby, called Dinbych y Pysgod in Welsh or “little town of fishes”, was established by The Normans and most of the old town walls remain, enclosing the medieval town behind them.
