THE INFLUENCERS
RICK OWENS California-born Rick Owens launched his eponymous line in 1994. His sleek spin on grunge-inspired glamour soon garnered him a loyal following and a host of design awards including the CFDA’s coveted New Talent award in 2002. Nearly ten years on, the label continues to offer a master class in clean-cut minimalism, all with a distinctly avant-garde edge.
Y O H J I YA M A M O T O Yamamoto clothing is often characterized by its use of washed, unironed fabrics, loose uncluttered forms, and dark colours. Its occasional combinations of Japanese and Western, traditional and contemporary references is characteristic of Postmodernist bricolage. After graduating in law from Keio University in Tokyo in 1966 Yamamoto studied for three years at the Fashion Culture Institute. In 1969 he won the Endo design prize, which took him to Paris where he worked for two years in the couture industry. Once back in Tokyo he established Y’s ready-to-wear for women in 1972; Y’s ready-to-wear for men was launched in 1977. He presented his first Yohji Yamamoto collection in Paris in 1981 and in 1984 his first Yohji Yamamoto pour Homme collection. Yohji Yamamoto+Noir was launched in 1995 and its clothing, as the name suggests, is largely black with splashes of bright colour.
Peter Eisenman Peter Eisenman, in full Peter David Eisenman (born August 12, 1932, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.), American architect known for his radical designs and architectural theories. He is often characterized as a deconstructivist. During his tenure at the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies, Eisenman became renowned as a theoretician of architecture. He thought outside the traditional parameters of “built work, concerning himself instead with a conceptual form of architecture, in which the process of architecture is represented through diagrams rather than through actual construction. In his designs he fragmented existing architectural models in a way that drew upon concepts from philosophy and linguistics, specifically the ideas of the philosophers Friedrich Nietzsche and Jacques Derrida and the linguist Noam Chomsky. Because of these affiliations, Eisenman was alternately classified as a postmodernist, deconstructivist, and poststructuralist.
Noam Chomsky American theoretical linguist whose work from the 1950s revolutionized the field of linguistics by treating language as a uniquely human, biologically based cognitive capacity. Through his contributions to linguistics and related fields, including cognitive psychology and the philosophies of mind and language, Chomsky helped to initiate and sustain what came to be known as the “cognitive revolution. Chomsky also gained a worldwide following as a political dissident for his analyses of the pernicious influence of economic elites on U.S. domestic politics, foreign policy, and intellectual culture.
FILIP DUJARDIN Belgium-based photographer Filip Dujardin’s “Impossible Architecture” has encapsulated the imaginary, and removed the practicality of construction . Expanding his fascination of buildings around Ghent, Belgium – Dujardin has utilized a digital collaging technique to create the illusion of buildings that appear absurd, dazzling and impressive. Though at first they appear structurally inconceivable, these fictional buildings arguably connect to Dujardin’s cultural heritage, intertwining both surreal design and rich urban landscape. Whether you call it madness or transformation.

Keith Lemley My work is about seeing the unseen – the invisible presence which exists in our minds and surrounds all objects, experiences, and memories. Having spent my childhood summers on a small farm in rural Appalachia, I developed a keen interest in being part of and observing natural systems, time and the process of life and death, and an aesthetic sensibility synthesizing the organic and the machine.
Inside Out Project NSIDE OUT is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images will be made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or in a group; posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window to a wall of portraits on an abandoned building or a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and viewable virtually.

BUYING BEHAVIOR RO I VAHEB GN I YUB Most marketers embrace the economists’ worldview – rational people who buy products to fulfill our needs and when confronted with choices people make rational decisions. Unfortunately that is not always the case – if ever. Buying behavior is very much influenced by our social behavior, which in turn is mostly determined by hardwired reflexes. In case of Mind Attitude buying behavior depends on cultural, aesthetic and urban influence. Being picky doesn’t mean being too much rational.
