The story explores three intertwined narratives depicting the assertion of the Chinese-Americans’ to their rights (Look Tin Eli) despite the pressures imposed on the Chinese community —of exclusion (Abe Reuf) or conformity (Donaldina Cameron)— by their countrymen.
