introduction. A booklet presenting a mixture of key menswear & womenswear fashion trends for Autumn & Winter 2015/16. A selective array of images have been chosen to demonstrate key elements of each trend and to identify how a particular trend has been represented in the media.

Bling & Black.

Mens luxe sportwear but with a edge of urban and rebel style. It’s all about black and gold for A/W 2015/16, taken inspiration from designers such as Juun.J and Alexandre SallÊ de Chou. A bad attitude and a good taste in music is all you need to finish off the luxe urban style.

It doesn’t look like we have seen the end to the rucksack trend just yet, as we wil be seeing plenty of leather effect heavy metal zipped backpacks for the coming year, including sports bomber jackets in silk and polyester. We will also be seeing more metal toecapped shoes & trainers on the highstreet, taken inspiration from designers such as Axel Arigato and Balmain. Detailing will also definitely be a key factor, with leather look pattern and mesh detailing on garments.

Materials such as leather, translucent PU and mesh will be seen with layering being an important part of the trend. Exposed seams and pockets will also be seen on these trend setters, as focus on detail will be vital for this style. 7

The 70’s made a comeback this summer and is going nowhere this Autumn & Winter. Fringe, Flares and Floral Prints are definitely a must this season, whether you’re that hippie free spirited bohemia girl or an uptown chic 70s fashionista.

the 1970s is when 20th-century style hit rock bottom; for others, it encapsulated hedonism, outré glamour, languid sensuality and bohemianism like no other era. - The New York Times, 2015.

Fig. 12 Fashion of the 70’s Mood Board (2015)

style of the seventies Frantic fringing, sheer pussy-bow blouses, delicate flared sleeves and denim dungarees have been seen on the catwalk this season, by the likes of designers such as Burberry, Anna Sui and even high street brands likes Topshop Unique. Loose colourful, long and lightweight is definitely the way forward this season.

9

This season 70’s retro platforms are definitely smashing the trend, featuring a chunkle heel and a combination of suede and leather. Clog type heels have definitely made a comeback but with a modern take. Choose from either the sophisticated rounded silhouette or the bold pointed almond design.

Rich, Rustic and Earthy are definitely the colours that will dominate this season, along with a contrast of bold colours to make a statement. The colours this season are all to do with evoking feelings and memories of happiness, warmth and all things natural, conveyed by using earthy colours associated with nature. 11

Think tassles, sandy suedes, floral frocks and structured denim. Patchwork, patterns and bold prints were also seen making their way down the catwalk at Burberry Prorsum, giving a folk-like twist. Calvin Klein also showed that he was a big fan of the patchwork scene at New York Fashion Week, with his patchwork coats, which can be found by brands such as Topshop and Asos.

Fig.20 Cher rocking the flares (1973)

Era of the 70’s. The era of the 70’s have come spinning back again, with designers wanting to ressurect the era with continual modernity. In the 1990s, Chanel used inspiration from the Charlie girl, “kinda young, kinda now’.” with a ‘bell-sleeved blouse and cropped wide-legged trousers’. (Ferla 2015) Rebecca Taylor also came out with a ‘sweeping diaphanous maxi’ and a suede trench by Gucci. Tunics and culottes were seen everywhere during the 70’s era. Cher was always one for trying out different trends that the decade had to offer. For instance, in the image on the left, with her rocking the bold floral print co-ord flares. One thing about the 70’s is that if your trousers weren’t tight fitting, then you were in the wrong era.

Fig.21 The Midi Skirt (1970)

The biggest change is in the style of the clothing where designers have gone further to create a more sexier and sophisticated take on the 70’s look, with the colours being less bold and more earthy and warm for Autumn & Winter.

Fig.23 1970’s Pantsuit Fashion (1970)

Fig.22 The Now Midi Skirt (2015) The saying, ‘fashion always comes back around’ is definitely true as you can see in these two images above, with the one on the right being the interpretation of the classic 70’s midi skirt with the detailing of the buttons going down the middle of the skirt.

Joni Mitchell was definitely one of the style icons of the 70’s with her bold characterful hippy look of ‘tie dye blouses, earth-goddess hair and billowing kaftans ‘. (Leaper 2015) Fig.24 Joni Mitchell (1972)

“Those flares you just bought? Good shout, because the big 70s comeback is going nowhere for Autumn. Whether you’re into hippie trail bohemia or uptown 70s chic, there’s still a version of the trend to love.” - Grazia

“if there was one word to sum up the key detail of autumn/winter ‘15 it would undoubtedly be fringing.” - Buro 24/7 uk

what is being said? “70s Vibe – Psychedelic Looks – Retro Geometrics – Optical Graphic Prints – Trippy Pattern Plays – Clock Face Elements.” - WCF
