As children enter into society they are given the rules they need to be good law-abiding citizens. Unfortunately, often something is lost in the process. The left and right hemispheres of our brain process information in different ways. While individuals may have a tendency towards one way of thinking, both sides need to work together in our everyday lives. Left-brained thinking, which is encouraged in most schools, is verbal, analytical and sequential. Right-brained thinking is visual and intuitive and is the source of imagination and creativity. Our new Expressive Kids program is designed to stimulate right-brained thinking through process oriented art, rather than product oriented art. What does process oriented mean?
Music Lessons Music lessons in Piano, Guitar, Banjo & Bass. NEW! Flute, Flute Ensemble and Chamber Music! Call the KAC office to schedule.

Fashion: Rags to Runway (grades 6+) We all have a few fad-
ed memories hanging in our closet that we haven’t worn in years, yet can’t bear to throw away; ripped jackets, prom dresses and that pair of jeans you loved in middle school! We try them on privately in our more sentimental moments and then quickly banish them back to the “hanger of no return”. However, with a little patience, minimal skill and a bit of vision you can transform these old and outgrown garments into new, improved pieces for the new, improved you. The Mystery of Modi: An Evening with Amedeo Modigliani Despite his short life, Italian Expressionist painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani created unique works of art that are among the most important of the twentieth century. Along with other Modernists living in Paris at the time, Modi struggled against poverty and chronic ill health, dying of tuberculosis and the excesses of drink and drugs at age 35. His legend has since become nearly as large as Vincent van Gogh’s—and for a long time it overshadowed serious critical assessment of his work. Join us as we separate the facts from the fictions that surround this amazing artist. Spring: May 2 Jill Kiefer

Muses: The Goddesses of Inspiration In this program, you’ll meet 100 famous muses and see how the artists they inspired rendered them in art! This will be a journey throughout time that will illustrate how the notion of the muse unfolded and grew—along with the art corresponding with it. From the muses of ancient Greco-Roman mythology to the Kate Moss inspired works of Banksy—we’ll discover how and why certain subjects, qualities, and ideas become embodied in particular individuals. We’ll also examine how the notion of the “inner muse” developed, and explore the enormous and endless possibilities associated with it! (Of course, we’ll have to also cover the gossip surrounding these legends!) In the contemporary world, the “muse” is a multi-layered concept. Join us to examine its evolution. Spring: June 27 Sat

Henri Matisse - Portrait of Lydia Delectorskaya - 1947 Oil on canvas. 64.5x49.5 cm (approx. 25 X 19.4 in) - The State Hermitage, St. Petersburg, gift of Lydia Delectorskaya

In this program, we’ll examine the special contributions made by a handful of artists who became movers and shakers in the art world. The history of art has always been filled with brilliant technicians and artistic visionaries. But what sets a small group of them apart from all the rest? How much (if anything) does timing have to do with their greatness? What is it about the lives and cultures of specific artists that contributed to their recognition as among the most revolutionary of all artists (either before or after their deaths)? Artists we look at during this session will include: Giotto, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, and Vermeer.
