Art & Imagination Camp (ages 3 / 1

- 5 years)

Our Art & Imagination camps are designed to provide a warm, welcoming environment geared specifically to the creative spirit of the young child. Each weekly camp is a creative mix of arts and crafts projects, free art play, storytime, outdoor playtime and collaborative art. Campers should dress for a mess and bring a snack each day. We only accept 8 children for each session, so please be sure to register early.

Furry Friends

Kooky Chemists Goopy sculptures, bubbles galore, rainbow slime and more! In this camp our little scientists will make their own lab coats and get to work creating a plethora of gooey art projects, while they learn a bit of science!

Derby Darlings Campers will make

about life on the farm by making their own model farm. Using a wide array of materials we will create a barn for our animals complete with feeding troughs and haystacks. We will also make models of several barn animals to put in our barns.

Big and Small Big toothbrushes, tiny houses, giant crayons....the world will be more fun as we turn everything upside down! Using a variety of arts and craft materials we will learn about opposites while we create our own opposite objects!

Dr. Doolittle’s Darlings The vet is in! In this camp we will set up our very own animal hospital, using our dolls and animals from home as patients. We will make our own pet carriers, ID badges, Dr. coats, ear scopes, plaster casts and more. Each child will compile their own medical kit to continue their doctoring at home! Faces, Family and Friends Children

will have fun with paint, clay and found objects as we read and share stories about our families and friends - even our furry ones! Our creations will go home in unique memory chests that we have decorated over the course of the week. Please bring photographs of friends and family as well as family stories.

Frozen Frenzy In this camp we will

create art projects inspired by the popular movie Frozen. We will make a variety of crafts such as sugar cube castles, sock snowmen, antler headbands and more.

Furry Friends Come create your own furry friends out of a variety of materials. We will be making fuzzy pillows, stuffed animals and more.

Little Farmers Children will learn

Megasaurus Munchkins We will create creatures from mythology and invent our own! Our not too scary monsters will be made from a variety of sculpture materials and embellished with paint, glitter, feathers and more! Pee Wee Puppeteers Sock puppets, finger puppets, marionettes and more! Our little campers will work collaboratively creating our own puppet theatre.

Space Rangers Take a trip to Earth and beyond! In this camp we will create our own solar systems out of a variety of materials while learning about Earth and the surrounding planets. We will also work collaboratively to create our own spaceship out of cardboard and paint! Tiny Time Travelers We will travel through time creating our own masterpieces with every age! From the prehistoric age through the Renaissance to modern times…we will students will learn while having fun! When I Grow Up… Kids love to dream about their adult selves! In this class we will talk about different jobs such as farmers, doctors, veterinarians, teachers and artists. We will talk about the environment each works in and make our own “props” out of a variety of art materials.

Kids Art Camp (grades 1-5, grades 3-5, grades 4-6) A great alternative to traditional summer-long programs! Our small camp groups enable students to receive individual attention in a warm, family-like atmosphere. All of our art camps are one-week sessions with half-day, full-day and extended-day options. Campers should dress for a mess and bring a snack each day as we have a small “recess” outside, with games, crafts and music. Kids Art Camp Topics Faerie Houses

In this camp we will make our living version of a fairy house out of natural materials. Our houses will start with a base and walls made out of a peat-moss concrete mixture. We will then use sticks, rocks, living moss and plants to complete the structure and furnishings.

Freaky Fridays Costume Contest & Ice Cream Party every Friday! Animation (gr. 3-5) Campers will learn the basics of animation to create their own cartoons. Each student will develop their own characters and story lines and then bring them to life using Flash Animation and Wacom tablets. This camp is limited to five students. Bring a flash drive to transfer work.

Computer Arts (gr. 3-5)

Art in Motion

Learn to take great photos and then alter them making your own beautiful (or silly) masterpieces. Students should bring a camera if they have one and a flash drive to transfer their work. This camp is limited to five students.

In this creative camp we will be making artwork that moves in some way. Using a variety of materials we will make art that interfaces with our environment such as kites, chimes, mobiles and fountains.

Bring your favorite photos and get a basic introduction to Adobe Photoshop®. Learn to use drawing tools, color palettes, layers and design. The animation program Flash® will also be introduced. Bring a flash drive to transfer work.

Digital Photo / Editing (gr. 3-5)

Jewelry Learn the basics of beading, wire art and polymer clay beadmaking while creating beautiful bracelets, necklaces, hair-clips and more. This camp is very popular and students who have attended in previous years will have the opportunity to build on their skills. Make a Horror Film (gr. 3-5) Campers will work collaboratively to write and shoot our own (not too scary) “horror movie”. Class will cover screenwriting, storyboarding, shooting, acting for the camera and editing on iMovie. Our film will then be posted on You Tube to be shared with friends. This camp is limited to five students.

Cartooning in 2D and 3D

Campers will learn about anatomy, facial expressions and movement depiction, while creating their own cartoon characters. We will then feature our characters in comic strips and make our own “action figure version of them using polymer clay.

Pottery Wheel Intensive (grade 4-6) This very small class will focus solely on the wheel. Learn the basics of wheel throwing and how to create different forms. This class is limited to six students so register early and bring an old towel each day for clean-up.

Rummage Madness Join our resident

rummage collector making sculptures out of found objects. Unbridled creativity for the imaginative child!

Bring your ideas to life! We will create characters and environments from magazines, dismantled toys, clay and paint. We will then illustrate our stories and narratives using stop motion animation. Bring a flash drive to transfer work.

In this camp we will focus on the basics of visual arts. We will experiment with charcoal, acrylics, watercolor and clay as we explore landscape, still life, portrait and the figure. We will have a clothed model present for at least one camp day.

Fashion Mash-up Take that old pair of jeans, ripped jacket or stained t-shirt or mom’s unwanted silk scarves and create something fabulous and new, using a variety of skills and embellishments. Students should come with a creative spirit and a bag of old clean clothes. Sewing experience is not required!

Wizardry World This camp is inspired by the popular Harry Potter books. Campers will use different sculpture, art and craft materials to create their own spell books, wands, owls, magical creatures and more!

Teen Art Camp (grades 6-12) A great option for teens who love art and might be too old for, or bored by traditional day camps. Each one-week session will focus intensively on a single topic. Our goal is to instill in each camper the skills needed to continue to explore the subject independently. Teen campers should dress appropriately for art and bring a snack each day. Full-day campers should also bring a lunch. Materials are included for all camps, except where noted in the camp descriptions.

Teen Art Camp Topics Jewelry & Clay Silver A favorite at KAC! Explore the basics of beading and jewelry findings, creating earrings, bracelets, findings and more. One day of this camp will be devoted to Clay Silver, a medium shaped by hand and fired into 99.9% pure silver. Each camper will receive a tool kit to keep. Clay Silver material fee: $50, due upon registration. Outdoor Painting Experience the joy

Art of Comic Con A crash course on

all things Comic-con related! We will decide on the activities to include in our own mini-convention. Learn cosplay tips and tricks as we make costumes and props based on our favorite characters. Get introduced to the Manga drawing style to make images for our own Artist Alley. Students can also choose to participate in a cosplay fashion show, learn a collaborative dance routine, create trivia questions for other campers and more! On Friday, we will hold our own mini Comic-Con and invite our friends other campers to attend!

Learn the basics of taking good pictures and how to alter them. Campers will learn how to improve their photos by studying lighting and composition. Students will then experiment with texture, color and other photo effects using Photoshop®. Bring a flash drive to transfer work. This class is limited to five students.

Draw & Paint Learn about scale, compostion, perspective, portraiture and more. We will explore a variety of painting and drawing mediums in this camp such as charcoal, acrylics and oil paints. Please check the website for a list of required materials. Fantasy Illustration Fantasy art can be found in civilizations throughout history in fairytales, folklore, mythology, science fiction and religion. In this camp students will learn the basic tools and skills which are currently used in this popular art form. Each student will come up with their own fantasy concept and do a series of illustrations based on their ideas. Fused Glass One of our most popular

camps! Learn the basics of this beautiful art form. Cut and prepare flat glass into your own designs which will then be slumped (shaped) in a glass kiln. Campers will have the opportunity to make a variety of pieces including plates and jewelry. Glass fee: $75, due upon registration.

ny! Learn basic editing and DVD production while creating your own video perfect for YouTube, blogging or social media. This camp is limited to five students.

Metalsmithing Campers will learn the craft and art of metalsmithing in this exciting new camp. Students will learn to shape, solder and texturize while making rings, necklaces and more. Material fee: $50, due upon registration. Pottery for Teens Campers will learn

to hand build while making a variety of projects such as bowls, cups and vases. Students will also recieve an introduction to the pottery wheel. Students should check the website schedule to see when work is ready to be picked up. Please bring an old towel each day for clean-up.

Pottery Wheel Intensive This very

Fashion Design Students will learn about all aspects of fashion design and creation. They will learn how to plan out and illustrate their pieces, learn various sewing techniques, and complete at least one finished garment by the weeks end. Sculpture In this camp students will experiment with a variety of mediums and techniques. We will cover how sculptures were made throughout history and learn about some of the “greats”! We will have a clothed model for two days of this camp. Tie Dye and Silkscreen In this camp

we will learn how to create an array of tiedye patterns. Campers will then learn the basics of screen printing, creating their own unique designs. We will then combine our skills to make our own tie-dyed silk-screened apparel such as t-shirts, wall hangings and tote bags.

Digital Painting Campers will learn to apply fine art techniques such as color, line and composition to digital paintings which we will create in Adobe Photoshop. Additionally, students will learn to create and manipulate brushes, use layers and other basic to advanced techniques. Subjects can be anything from landscapes or still-life, to illustration or videogame concept art. Students may bring their own laptop or a flash drive to transfer work. Zines A zine (from magazine) is historically a small circulation of self-published work which began as a political medium. In this camp we will make our own zines, learning the basics of cartooning and incorporating our characters into our work. We will also use collage and various black and white drawing and painting mediums.

Young Adult Atelier (grades 9 - 12) Our Summer Atelier Program gives older teens the ability to attend adult classes by the week at a reduced rate. Students have the choice of morning or afternoon sessions.

How do I register and when? Online website checkout, phone or mail. Early registration is encouraged.

Do you offer an Extended Day option? Yes, campers must pre-register at least 48 hours beforehand; Mornings 8:30 - 9:30am is $10/day Afternoon 4-5:30pm is $15/day.

Can I register and pay the day it starts? No. Campers cannot be enrolled unless payment has been processed.

Early drop-off or late pick-ups that exceed 15 minutes will be charged the extended day rate.

What do I receive upon registration? Our system will email you a receipt. Please download and send in the Camp Medical Form. Please call the office [[phone]] if your receipt was not received through email.

What do they do during Extended Day? Extended Day care gives a chance for campers to unwind comfortably within the creative atmosphere of the art center. Campers are allowed to free draw, play, do artwork, read, play boardgames, make bracelets or crafts. Extended care is provided during office hours under the care of a teacher or teachers’ assistant.

What age groups do you offer? Art & Imagination is ages 3 ½ to 5 years; Kids Art for grades 1-5 (grades entering for the Fall); Teen Camp grades 6+ and Young Adult Atelier grades 9+. What if my camper is in between camp ages or grades? You may choose either camp age group. When are the camp times? Art & Imagination Pre-School Camps: Mornings 9:45-12:15pm; Afternoons 1:15-3:45pm. Kids & Teen Camps: Mornings 9:30-12:30pm; Afternoons 1:00-4:00pm. Young Adult Atelier (Grades 9+): Mornings 9:15-12:15am, Afternoons 1:00-4:00pm.

Can we repeat camp topics through the Summer? YES!! Students who are repeating topics will be given more advanced projects and individual instruction. How many camp topics are covered? Topics listed are options - choose one topic for each half-day weekly session. Do full-day campers break for lunch? Yes, full-day campers will be escorted and checked into lunchtime and their afternoon camp as well. Do you have A/C & water coolers? Yes.

Do they take a snack break? Yes, campers and staff, go outside to the front porch and lawn and enjoy some silly lawn games, live music and friendship bracelet making. Please pack a snack for each camp, two snacks for full-day campers. Do we need to bring anything? Possibly, be sure to check the topic description or call the KAC office. What is Freaky Friday? Each Friday all campers and most of the staff dress up in costume. Campers should also bring money for the ice cream truck. Do you hire teacher assistants? Each camp has between 1 and 3 assistants, in addition to the camp instructor, depending on the age group, topic and number of campers in the group. What should my camper wear? Campers should dressed in “art clothes” or be sent with a smock.

What if the camp I want is full? Campers will then be added to a wait list for that specific camp topic. If a spot opens you will be notified ASAP. Do you offer pay plans? We do not offer payment plans for Summer Camps. Can we do a free trial? There are no free trials for camps, only classes. However, feel free to stop by anytime for a visit! Should lunch & snack be non-perishable? Non-perishable lunches are encouraged. Lunches are stored indoors, a microwave is available for use. Can my Art & Imagination Camper attend full-day? Full-day registration is available only if the camper is picked up in between the morning and afternoon sessions.

What if we need to miss a day? Campers may attend another day of camp as a make-up, space permitting. Please call the office to schedule.
