HIMAYA

Boracay Ati Tribe Communal Culture Centre

Architectural Design 5

Nippon Paint AYDA 2020 Competition “Forward: ‘Human Centered Design’

The project is an entry to the Asia Young Designer Award (AYDA) Nippon Paint 2020 Competition entitled “Forward: Human Centered Design”. Human Centered Design is an approach that focuses on the needs of peoples not as individuals, but as societies with complicated, entrenched issues. The stakeholders of this project is the Boracay Ati Tribe community. This indigenous group has been the first inhabitats of the reknown island. However, they have been struggling with discrimination and harrassment, as their ancestral land is at risk of being upsurtion despite having a native title over their land. The Himaya Communal Culture Centre aims 1) to provide a space that would showcase the tangible and intangible elements of the Ati Tribe, 2) to set up a strategy that would cater to the changing needs of community, and lastly 3) to integrate sustainable approaches and methods into the project that would aid in the overall development of the Ati Tribe.

The Himaya Boracay Ati Tribe Communal Culture Centre is located adjacent to the Boracay Ati Tribe Community where the Indigenous People reside.

The Multi-Purpose Hall functions as a public gathering space for both the Ati Tribe and the visitors of the communal culture centre.

The Multi-Purpose Hall Lobby serves as a welcoming space for the Ati Tribe and the visitors of the communal culture centre.

The Weaving and Sewing Workshop is provided as these two intangible elements are a part of the Atri Tribe’s culture and tradition.

Architectural Design 7 Located in Pasay, Manila, The Renasimiyento Medical Arts Building empowers and encourages rebirth through utilizing sustainable methods and approaches that aids in the overall healing and recovery of its users in a nurturing and therapeutic envuronment.

Materials resembling earth textures were applied into the design. This gives off a homey and soft feel to its users and breaks of the stereotype of healthcare buildings giving off “intimidating” or “terrifying” environments. Choice of material plays a major role in medical arts building to further encourage its users to their overall mental and physical recovery.

The form of the Medical Arts Building is inspired by the Butterfly. It symbolizes tranformation and joy in which the Renasimiyento Medical Arts Building aims for its patients and end-users to feel in this healthcare environement. Alternating floors and overhangs gave the designer the opportunity to provide healthcare related spaces and outdoor spaces that are essential to the overall design concept of the project.
