On December 20th, 2024, Kauai High School Key Club participated in the Festival of Lights. This event was held at 4:45 PM - 7:00 PM. The Festival of Lights is located in Kukui Grove center, inside the old Macy’s Men’s Department. During the Festival of Lights, Kauai High School Key Club helped greet visitors and showed visitors of the unique decorated Christmas trees created by Kauai’s talented teens. Each member had their own responsibility of explaining what each Christmas tree was built of and answering any questions from the visitors. These Christmas trees were decorated with recyclable materials like plastic water bottles, aluminum cans, CD’s, bottle caps, punch cards, and many more. This event showcased high school students' creative ideas and ability to create stunning art pieces. I completely enjoyed this event, and the Christmas trees are stunning.

The King Kaumuali’i Winter Celebration was an event Kauai High Key Club participated in on December 13th, 2024. The event was held from 5:30-8:00pm with each hour of the event containing many festivities for parents and students to enjoy. Everything was set up at King Kaumualii Elementary School, with the event being held between the main playing field and inside the cafeteria. The event was made for kids and parents to play and bond with each other and make lasting memories. The activities that were held were things such as outdoor games like ring toss or connect 4, dancing up on stage, and arts & crafts. Key Club members were in charge of supervising each station to make sure that the kids didn’t hurt themselves or damage anything. After the event ended, members helped the staff take down and put away supplies and decoration. Food was also provided for everyone, with chili bowls and rice filling our stomachs for the night. I personally found the event really fun as I had fun socializing with everyone there and entertaining the kids and parents.

On December 8th, 2024, Key Clubbers from Kauai, Kapaa, and Waimea High got together at the Lihue Bowling Alley to compete in an interclub bowling tournament! When members first arrived after the online DCM, they provided non-perishable food items—like canned goods—as their way of donations. Shortly after, members introduced each other and spent a good while eating and playing at the arcade to break the ice. Eventually, the tournament would begin, splitting the teams into each school with an additional Kiwanis team. While Waimea High was ultimately crowned the winner at the end, this event was successful for everybody by allowing members across the island to interact with each other physically and forge a stronger bond through a competitive sport! I would definitely do this again if given the opportunity next year!

On the night of December 6th, 9 of our key club members, alongside members of Waimea Key Club walked the Lights on Rice Parade. Beginning at 5:00pm, we met at the Vidinha Stadium parking lot where we dressed ourselves with a variety of light up necklaces, festive headbands, garlands, etc. Although the evening started off rainy, it soon cleared up as the parade began to start. Before we walked, we established a formation system to distribute our bags of candy evenly among the crowds of parade-watchers. While the parade began, we had downtime to spare as we were near the end of the lineup. We had time to bond with the Waimea Key Club members, or make tik toks showing off our festive outfits. As our turn came up, we successfully walked the length of the parade from Vidinha Stadium to the county building. We passed out a variety of candy canes, lollipops, and magnets to children along the sidewalk, giving them a "Happy Holidays!" as we walked past. As the parade concluded, we snapped a photo of the Kauai High and Waimea key clubbers, capturing a memorable moment. Overall, it was amazing to see some familiar faces in the crowds, and was a great night to contribute to one of Kauai's long lasting traditions that'll be forever remembered.

On December 12th from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm the Hawaii Food Bank held their annual food distribution. This event was held and the Hawaii Food bank warehouse in Lihue. Member helped the Hawaii Food Bank out by giving out different types of foods such as cabbage, spinach, lettuce, canned goods, and frozen goods. To pass these foods out people would drive up with their cars and give one of the workers a card with the amount of people in their car which would determine the amount of food given to them. This was a fun experience and it was very enjoyable. Members got the chance to give back to community and they enjoyed doing so. I think that this was a successful eventandIamhopingtocontinuethisnextyear.
