0 1 TANNERY

OF THE MOROCCANS

Industrial / Residence Third Year Studio / 2016 Tutors: Stefan Lengen / Tim Culverhouse Site: Islington, N1 8PA, London, U.K.

The Tannery is for the former leather shop owner couples who used to lived in Morocco and migrated to London with their dog. They found out the vanished culture once florished in Islington of agriculture has now almost been forgotten, only having meat shops and leather selling shops around in the area. It is then decided to have a tannery that could act as a reminder for the public about the past but rich culture that once dominated the area or even the whole country. Vanished culture: [Agricultureland] Reminded by making products from animals, i.e. Tannery [Machine Age / Industrialisation] Reminded by Aesthetic of Machinery

Structural Strategy Since heavy machines and large amount of corrosive chemicals are being used in the process of tanning, the consideration of structural tanacity and material are vital for the proposal. Various structures were investigated before coming to conclusion. However, as duty of different spaces differs, strategies are then different as well in different spaces.

Form Finding Project Third Year Studio / 2015 Tutors: Stefan Lengen / Tim Culverhouse Site: Islington, N1 8PA, London, U.K.

Inspired by an everyday action: Shoe tying & untying; This project is a form finding project focusing on the movements of fingers and how they relates to shoe laces and, hence generating an architecture that accommodates itself into a secret corner/ gap, which bizarrely having a steel structure stretching out to the street and above the pedestrians, locating in Islington.

Key Steps of Shoe Tying

By studying the site and movements of the action, a proposal is developed in order to relate and weave the generated form into the site. The proposal not only express such generated form from a series of actions, it also explore the present and the past of the site and connects them back together with a track and a portable device.

DISSEMBLANCE

Kinetic Architecture - Form Finding Project Second Year Studio / 2015 Tutors: Stefan Lengen / Kyriakos Katsaros Site: Broadway Market, E8 4QJ, London, U.K.

Before doing deep research on the site, we were asked to generate kinetic forms from our own interest. I collected various ‘antiques’ from waning markets in London, such as a few mechanical clocks and two typewriters. They were then dismantled in many small parts and remodelled into an aarchitectural form. The aesthetic within these kinetic forms suggest how spaces could be used and how it relates back to the site.

Kinetic Architecture - Form Finding Project Second Year Studio / 2015 Tutors: Stefan Lengen / Kyriakos Katsaros Site: Broadway Market, E8 4QJ, London, U.K.

During the research of site, different types of trash in Broadway Market are being analysed. Since the market was mainly selling food, many recyclable packagings were generated. By proposing a kinetic installation within, the awareness of mateirals being recycled were expected to rise. The proposal allows user to interact with trashes they have produced in an interesting way, changing the impressions of the industry of recycling.

Residential Development / Construction Year Out Training / 2017 Team: FELT Architecture & Design & Research Site: The Beaux Arts Building, N7 6JW, London, U.K.

The project has already started when I join the team. Upon picking up the project, I assisted project Architect in preparing and drawing tender documents; the preparation of preliminary cost plans; attending tender & site meetings with clients; carrying out site surveys. It was a small construction project but I had been involved in many process started realising how real life projects proceeds with time.

A model expressing new ideas of interior was built by different types of woods with various forms and thicknesses. Some metals are used as well for several parts. Electronics were added in advance and provide lightings within the model and simulates the lights installed originally in site. Themes / Ideas: [Frameworks] + [3D] [Brass & Copper] [Complications]

0 7 TRANSFORMABLE

CAR PARK

Commercial Development / Mixed Used Second Year Studio / 2014 Tutor: Anuschka Kutz / Andre Viljoen Site: Jubilee Place Car Park, Winchester Walk, SE1 9BH, London, U.K.

Borough Market has always been a busy place for both tourists and locals, espcially in the weekends. In the weekend, visitors with cars are not able to find a place to park since the nearest car park, i.e. Jubilee Place Car Park, has very limited space for parking. And during weekdays, it is not easy for visitors to find a place to sit down and enjoy their food in peace, it is also a fact that there isn’t much choice of space for them to catch up/chitchat/gather with their friends. Hence a transformable complex which include car park, sitting spaces, cafe/kitchen/shop to rent, a library and some rooftop spaces which the area of each function could vary according to different situations over different day in the week, is proposed.

Due to the space at the site is very limited, but having a large amount of visitors in some days in a week; a precise research on different types of car parks are done in order to fit as many cars as possible. Space for turning circle of cars are being considered as well. Research on different car park solutions

WORKS

I believe the world of design is so wide that most of the things we see everyday could be a part of it. Diverse range of works had been experimented and tried during my journey in architecture. Some may say all these do not relate to architecture but in my opinion, all these could all tell stories in terms of space, time, perceptions, concepts etc., which are some elements I consider important and vital in the realm of architecture.

1 0 PHOTOGRAPHY To me, photography does not only mean capturing what we see, but another door to open up the world of imagination. It is a world which tells the real in an unreal way. During my stay in U.K., I travelled around Europe and did not stop taking photos, it is one of my largest interest other than architecture, another way to perceive the world.
