The label caters for distinctive women with individual thinking, whose personality shout louder than their outfts and those who create trends rather than following it.

Designed and developed by Hong Kong-born fashion designer Kay Li after graduating from ESMOD University with an 1st Fashion award and an Excellence award. Kay Li established her eponymous label in 2012, combining the artistic and edgy Asian fashion aesthetics with European minimalistic chic.

Blurring the line between masculine and feminine qualities, androgynous edge can be seen in each collection combining with carefully selected luxurious fabrics to create a clean and unclustered silhouette.

A eco-conscious fashion label, KAY LI create timeless pieces yet with a unique appeal to make a strong statement that lives beyond the season. Each piece is carefully thoughtout and meticulously assembled. Each collection is made with patience, precision and care.

Autumn Winter collection 17 The Great Expectation

An examination of the range of emotions, “The Great Expectation” follows a bride of an arranged marriage on her wedding night.

From the feeling of helplessness to the explosion of anger, eagerness to happiness, this collection is filled with asymmetrical elements to articulate this mixture of emotions through Asian-fused androgynous looks.

As the wedding celebration draw to a close, the bride awaits eagerly to meet her future husband for the first time. The color palette of the collection is a reflection of the bridal room, which is filled with red ornaments and decoration with gold embroideries. “Happiness” candles were lit to light up the dark room and she gaze patiently through the translucent window for the shadow of the groom.

Symmetrical vs. asymmetrical tailoring symbolizes the bride’s inner struggles and anxiety. The flower laser cutting pattern is based on the traditional Chinese lattice window design which not only expresses the bride’s tenderness but also her joy of looking forward to the next chapter of her life. Exaggerated coat collar and prolonged belt tied around the waist represents restraints as a wedded woman.

Although the design “The Great Expectation” is filled with metaphors of an uncertain situation, but the overall sculpted and androgynous shape shows how women always emerge to be stronger and more independent.
