untied Editor’s Note Strive For Change We have seen change in our South African Education and I believe that there is change that is yet to come. This change came when the youth of 1976 decided that it is more than enough for them, to be taught in Afrikaans that they do not know. Ever since then we have been able to learn and communicate our own languages in class rooms because the youth from previous years fought for change. How I wish today’s youth can learn a thing or two from the 1976 youth, just to try and practice things the way they did things. They knew what they wanted and they focused on building their lives and careers. That is not the case with today’s youth they don’t want to be independent they want to be spoon fed, which is totally wrong. No wonder there are young they stand in corners waiting for their next victim to come. They focus more on hurting people and robbing them of things they worked hard for. Is that what the youth of today stand for? Violence? If that is the case then there is no future for them at all and they are making a bad name for the name “Youth”, for there is a saying that goes “ isizwe sifa ngomntu omnye ”, which means a country dies because of one person. Today’s youth needs to change and they need to start to change now. On this month’s issue: self development is the best thing that you could ever do for yourself, more than replacing your friends and routines. Read more info on Introvert.com’s column. It is very easy for us to become negative towards ourselves, to look down on ourselves but it is time for some kind of adjustments to take place.

Life is too short, let’s rather live it to the fullest. I am not all for the saying that says “you only live once”, but letting it all out won’t hurt. Stop blaming yourself for your mistakes, forgive yourself for things that are not going the right way in your life. Don’t worry yourself about fitting I, find ways that will help you standing out. We have Nambitha Ben-Mazwi on the cover an actress. We get to know more about Siyabulela Magwebu. We have food, fashion, good laughs, spiritual nourishment and a little bit of everything you will need. Enjoy!

Getting To Know The Beautiful Nambitha Ben-mazwi
Pictures supplied by Nambitha Ben-Mazwi
N
ambitha Ben-Mazwi who is affectionately called LadyNam by those who adore her is a small town girl at heart, from Port Elizabeth. She is bubbly, vivacious, live, all of that in a nutshell; but very much a nerd at heart. She is an actress, a business scientist, presenter, a lover of people and a follower of God.
Growing up in Port Elizabeth “Oh I love my upbringing. I very much have a ‘fast pace big city girl mind-set’ and I think that New York would do that to anyone” reveals the actress. Talking to the beautiful Nambitha we find that she is very much appreciative of her background. No matter where she is she remains the same and always remember
6
where she comes from. In the sense that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’, she believes that she is the epitome of that proverb. And we believe that it is mostly generated from our cultural values and beliefs that “umntu ngumntu ngabantu”. Everyone around you besides your family (your extended family and neighbours) are part of your upbringing and they get the privilege of raising you. At school, Nambitha participated in extra mural activities and she was also a straight A-student. When her mother was busy paying the bills during weekends she would sit at the library and read books. The library was literally her baby-sitter. There is a particular library in City Centre with Queen Elizabeth’s statue that is where she assembled while waiting for her mother. “You know that was my favourite hang-out”, she says.

“I think it’s because it’s such a beautiful historic building”.
From being a business strategist to becoming an actress
In all her busy schedule it was her mother who used to drive her to theatre rehearsals, hockey matches etc. She went on tour with the Eastern Cape children’s choir where they toured West Europe and that was when she was 12. She is certain that having that busy schedule as a child helped her maintain the very good work ethic that she has today.
Acting is not a tool for her to gain fame and credit for herself but it is more of a calling. She says acting is something that will trouble you no matter how much you try to ignore. “When you have a calling or called to do something you will not be content until you do it”, she explains. “I have always been inspired by my uncle Winston Ntshona and John Kani. They made a huge impact in the acting industry and still are”, adds Nambitha. She states that Ntshona and Kani used their craft as a form of protest during apartheid. Before her acting debut Nambitha was working for a global company and got to a point where she became exhausted. Though she was good at her job and enjoyed working for the company she says it took over her life. She drove down to memory lane and recalled that she had a radio show when she was still studying, she was the MTN MC
The Port Elizabeth born actress oozes with confidence in everything she does and that is because her grandmother imparted in her a very healthy self-esteem. She passed on to her self-assurance, inquisitiveness and a non-apologetic nature of who she is. Her grandmother taught her that change makers and legacy makers are non-apologetic. BenMazwi’s uncle, Broadway Tony award recipient, Winston Ntshona who is a legend in his own right is one of the people who inspired her to follow performing arts career.
7
for the 2010 Fifa world cup, and she was also doing campaigns and adverts. Her work took over her life and she couldn’t even do what she loves and enjoys. She was not happy or fulfilled because she didn’t have time to enjoy her favourite hobby on stage or in front of the camera. It took her to have a genuine conversation with herself and take the plunge. She was mostly encouraged by one of her best friends, Nkuli Nhleko. “She said she knows what my passion is. She told me that I am brilliant at it and that I should go for it”, Nambitha reveals. Nambitha eventually resigned without a plan and negotiated a good package for herself. She wanted to have a global experience and to get out of her comfort zone. She booked herself a two week ticket to New York, and she never looked back, ending up staying there! Her first job in New York was being a host and hosting came natural to her.
On her role Lulu on etv’s Broken Vows “Oh I loved that role, that story line is amazing” she said. Nambitha kindly gave us the background of the story. She narrated that they were given scripts and also told what was going to happen six months down the line. The directors and producers told her that Lulu was going to end up accidentally killing Lebo. She later requested a consultation with the writers and together with them they brainstormed this domestic violence story. She wanted a challenge and also wanted to give Lulu a bit more depth. “When I am telling a story that is changing lives and touching people that’s when I feel I am doing what I am destined to do”, she explained to us. “I was very careful with it, I didn’t want to compromise my performance”, she adds.

She elucidates that there were parts where the channel was hesitant in showing too much graphic with the physical abuse, but Nambitha and the director would say ‘no we are telling a story let’s go for it’. She says that people need to identify how abuse starts. They must know that it starts as verbal, emotional, and mental and it graduates into physical abuse. In the series Chulu had to be a charmer and everyone had to fall in love with him. He had to be seen as perfect so that when the abuse matures there could be a lot of disbelief. The story she portrayed in Broken Vows is a very authentic story. It is a story that is very relevant in our time and age. “Preparing for the character was very hectic” she explains. “I was going through a very hectic shooting schedule”. They would shoot 12 scenes with Lulu and Chulu in one day and would end up drained emotionally, physically, mentally. It was a lot to take in, but she loved every single second of it. When she was preparing for the role she had to put herself in Lulu’s shoes. She had to take on her fears, dreams and her insecurities. She says that that was the only way she could authentically portray the story. When scenes got tough Anga who played Chulu would hug her and they would burst into tears and he would be like ‘am so sorry’, they’d giggle and get straight back into it. That is because the scenes seemed real and they felt and lived every second of it. She would carry home all the emotion and dynamism of the scenes. When she arrives at home, she’d make herself tea, cry it all out then get to bed and pray. Praying helped her get back to being herself again.

The significance of telling Lulu’s story
where Lulu got out and begins to rebuild herself.
Nambitha believes that mostly now than ever abuse stories need to be out there. Most women do not know the different forms of abuse which makes them vulnerable and easy targets. She states that women need to recognise the different- forms of abuse. In all the different types of abuse, emotional has a long lasting effect than the bruises of physical show because one’s self-esteem and worth breaks down. You lose who you are and you practically have to rebuild yourself from scratch. You have to start loving yourself because you end up not loving yourself anymore. Staying with someone who emotionally abuses you breaks your heart every single day, this means that something in you will soon feel like you are not worthy enough.
Word of counsel to abused women
Some of the responses she got after telling the story came from viewers who didn’t know how abuse starts. With this storyline Nambitha understood that she had a responsibility of exposing to the world what’s happening in our society. Alarming people of what is currently happening, which is what people must have zero tolerance for and that is abuse. Hopefully saving women from their abusive relationships. We have lost many young women to abuse. In the past few months these young women have been abused and killed by men who were supposed to love and protect them. Nambitha believes that it is time to stand up and not tolerate men who abuse women. Seeing to it that the abusers and wrong doers are reprimanded for their cruel actions. She said it was important to have a story arch conclusion to Lulu’s story,
10
She pointed out that it is very difficult to give advice since each person has their unique journey. Nambitha advises that as soon as you don’t recognise yourself anymore - tell someone. The people who know you will notice change in your behaviour when you are no longer yourself and when your self-esteem becomes less. She says not every woman is always strong enough to handle the abuse without help. “Tell someone whom you can trust, someone who can pray for you and with you”, she advises. She says some women don’t disclose to anyone about the abuse and most women walk out when it’s already too late, which is the dangerous part.
The greatest challenge of being an actress in our day and age On the local and global point of view obviously on the woman observation she articulates that female actors do not speak up about the challenges they are facing. In 2016 she spent time with Laurence Fishburne and his ex-wife in Hollywood and they opened up to her about their experiences. She also had an uncomfortable moment with a director, whereby she wasn’t sure if she could hear properly what is being said . But she had to brush off that experience and kind of move on from it. She says this suggests that if you don’t compromise yourself you will be black-listed and not be employable. Locally it is Brenda Ngxoli who grew courage and revealed what’s happening behind closed doors. Nambitha feels that being harassed in the industry has become a norm.
She believes that Actors have a duty to know their worth and let go of the fear of not getting the job rather than lowering their standards.
Projects Nambitha is busy with at the moment Nambitha is tapping into producing and creating stories. She also has a media company and she is planning on growing her company. Charity remains a way of life for Nambitha. She serves as a leader at her church, CRC for social services and upliftment where she is actively doing feeding schemes, drives and assisting with the crèche they adopted in Alex. “I want to be more vocal in playing my part as a women of influence when it comes to my heart for young women and the youth, so we are also working on few social projects. Besides that, I remain in front of the camera-recently just returned from a trip to Lisbon, Portugal where I was filming. I remain always pursuing international opportunities as an actress as that is my forte, always seeking to be out of my comfort zone in foreign sets. Also-getting back to presenting and broadcasting which I took a long break from to focus on establishing myself as an actor”. From where we are sitting, it is evident that this charitable beautiful lady is going place. And by God’s grace she will reach to greater heights.

New kid on the block
Siyabulela Tippy kook Magwebu Young people today are confidently making their way to the top. They are not only dreaming but also making sure they get what they want. We chat to Siyabulela Magwebu an aspiring music producer, musician and actor and we got to know more about his upbringing and his work. Where Siyabulela is he from? I am a young man who was born and bred in Veeplas Port Elizabeth. What kind of a child were you when you were growing up? I come from a very strict household, but like any other kid in my developing stages there was a time whereby I didn’t obey rules set by my elders. My parents warned me about playing on the streets and playing with the wrong crowed, but I never listened. I loved riding a bicycle with my friends and most of my friends were a little bit older than me. Veeplas is known to be a place where there is lots of crime. So how did you manage to stay out of trouble? As I have mentioned that my parents were very strict, so that kept me grounded. I believe that we all have choices in life. If you want to be friends with people who commit crime then you will because that is what you want. And you also have a choice of staying away from the bad guys. Either way you also chose to be part of what they are doing, as for me I chose not to be part of what they are doing. But I do not judge or criticise them.
14
So your parents guided you in a way? Yes they did and I am grateful. But as I had said I never judged my peers as I made friends with some of the guys who smoked. sometimes if you distance yourself from them they would say that you think that you are better than them. I was avoiding being called cheese boy. That would have irritated me and I would have ended up falling into their trap, because that is how other kids my age ended up joining the club. When did you start your career in music and acting?
14
I started out with music at first, and that came about through listening to local music. I then built a relationship with few local musicians namely Luyanda Silumko who is known as Dj Luanda. It was him who taught me how to write songs. He introduced me to a producer and I recorded my music. Keeping myself busy with music once landed me into trouble at home because I was still in school that time and I failed grade 10. My parents were so disappointed in me so I had to slow down and focus on my school work.
One day when my dad was coming back from work he saw me watching YoTV and he said “you see what educated children do?” So in his mind, someone who appears on TV is educated. Which is why it wasn’t hard for him to let me follow an acting career. So I told myself that whatever opportunity that comes my way I will grab it with both hands. And then when did you get that opportunity? I met up with a director from Motherwell and I asked him to teach me how to use a camera. He owns a production company that shoots movies and so he created a demo for me. That is where it all began. So tell me more about your role on Ulwazi, what is it about When they were shooting Ulwazi and I was asked to go to the shooting location and take footage for the film. It turned out that I could join the cast and I was advised to go to reception to fill in a form and choose a character I wanted to audition for. I chose to act a bad guy and they were impressed by my work. So how was auditioning for a bad guy role like? As a guy who grew up in Veeplas, in a crime orientated environment I knew what to do to make the character dynamic. But they later restructured the character into a soft and loving person because the character got married. One of the other things that made things easy at the begging of drama shooting was that I got shot before we started shooting the film. They tried to get hold of me earlier but the thugs who shot me took my phone.
Pictures supplied by Siyabulela
My manager received news that I was in hospital and everyone was informed including the crew. They had to change their story line and recreate it to suit my circumstances, but it wasn’t that hard for me because I knew what I was going through and they didn’t.
What advice would you give to a young lad from Veeplas who is growing in the same environment you did? I would advise him to find council to older or matured people than him because his friends who are in the same age group as him will lead him astray. If he wants to succeed, he must respect his parents’ wishes but try to make them understand his dreams and desires. With the support of his parents he will succeed.

Fashion
How Low Is Really Low? The fashion industry giants have dedicated millions to massive PR campaigns, going so far as to launch conscious collections and donate proceeds to worthy causes. Yet despite these efforts, the truth remains, fashion is one of the dirtiest industries in the world. Here’s what they don’t want you to know: The fashion industry is designed to make you feel “out of trend” after one month or week. Back in the day there were two fashion seasons which is Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. Then when you fast forward to 2018 you would notice that the fashion industry is rolling out plus minus 20 something micro-seasons per year. With new trends coming out every week, the goal of fast fashion is for consumers to buy as many garments as possible, as quickly as possible. According to Elizabeth Cline in her book Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion, fast-fashion merchandise is typically priced much lower than the competition, operating on a business model of low quality / high volume. With designers creating new looks on a weekly basis, the fashion calendar for these companies is set up to deliberately make the customer feel offtrend after the first wear. Discounts aren’t really discounts. The spendthrift fashionistas love the idea of going into an outlet store and coming out with designer labels at a fraction of the price. Unfortunately, the additional or unsellable items we think we’re buying often have never seen a designer label before. Despite common belief, outlet clothing never enters a regular store and is most likely produced in an entirely different factory than the regular clothing. The reality is that outlets broker deals with designers so they can put designer labels on the cheaply made clothing manufactured in their own low-quality factories.
So it is not as if you are buying discounted or out of season merchandise at their stores, you are just buying lower quality range. There is lead and hazardous chemicals on your clothing. According to research other popular fast-fashion chains are still selling lead-contaminated purses, belts and shoes above the legal amount, years after signing a settlement agreeing to limit the use of heavy metals in their products. Lead exposure has also been linked to higher rates of infertility in women and increased risks of heart attacks, strokes and high blood pressure. Many scientists agree there is no safe level of lead exposure for anyone. Clothing is designed to fall apart. Fast fashion giants, such as H&M and Zara, are concerned with the bottom line and the bottom line alone. Their business models are dependent on the consumers’ desire for new clothing to wear, which is instinctive if the clothing falls apart in one wash. Some of these store put a small mark-up on the clothes and earn their profit out of selling an ocean of clothing. Nowadays we throw away over thousands of rands of textiles per year. We’re not talking about clothing being donated to charity shops or sold to second hand stores, this clothing is going directly into landfills. Because most of our clothing today is made with synthetic, petroleum-based fibres, it will take decades for these garments to decompose. So how can you become a more conscious consumer? It starts by educating yourself, buying local, buying less, buying used and buying from independent designers. You can start by joining a growing movement of fashion change makers here.

Developing Your Sense Of Dressing Sharp ... Part 2. We continue with our rules to dress sharp, I hope you enjoyed reading and learning part 1 that I published on our April issue . 8. EXPAND YOUR OPTIONS let's face it no one wants to be that person who wears the same outfit day in and day out, you need a bit of variety. Does this seem paradoxical to you with the previous rule? Well it shouldn't. You can trim your wardrobe and expand it at the same time. You only need to make sure that all your clothes can be worn together. 9. LAYER UP
Knowing how to layer clothes will give you ultimate use of everything in your closet, and it will help you create more interesting outfits. Layering lets you play around with the clothes you have, so you should learn how to do it properly. 10. FORGET THE TRENDS, DEVELOP YOUR STYLE FIRST Many people think they have to on top of the latest trends to become more stylish. However when you start out developing your style is vastly more important. Once you figure out what image you want to portray, you can start adding trends that will work with that image. 11. LOOK EFFORTLESS NOT BOTHERLESS You shouldn't look like you've spent hours meticulously orchestrating your outfit in front of the mirror. Looking like you just grabbed some clothes out of your closet is a lot more effective. You have to look good while you looking like you not making an effort to look good.

Dress to impress But that shouldn't make you look like you didn't bother. Your clothes must still look good on you and they must work together in a way that's pleasing to the eye. You have to look like you know what you doing.
If that sounds like you, you want to expand your color horizons. You have to figure out which colors work for you and the best way to do this is to try them out (see my previous rule) 14. WEAR COLORS SPARINGLY
12. TRY NEW THINGS
When you are developing your sense of style, you want to open your mind to new types of clothing and clothing styles. You should try things you never would have thought to wear before. You would be amazed how good you could look in items that you previously thought weren't you. Try on everything and anything will teach you more about your personal style that all the styles and fashion bloggers couldn't combined. 13. LEARN TO LOVE COLORS Many people don't seem to like wearing colors that much. Many of us stick to the basic colors.
22
While you should learn to love colors, you want to avoid wearing too many of them at the beginning of your style journey. You'll risk wearing incompatible colors since you probably don't know how to match them yet. Also you can still stick to just wearing one color at a time for now, and keep the rest neutral. Once you're further educated you can start trying to combine them. Till the next issue Untied fashionistas when we zip up our rules on how to dress sharp.

Be the centre of attention through these few steps Step 1 Step 5 Using a small brush or sponge apply a light colour from your brow bone to the top of the fold of the eye.
Apply mascara form the base of your lashes outwards. For a dramatic look re-apply your mascara when the first coat is dry.
Step 2
Apply your medium colour eyeshadow from your eyelashes to just above fold of your eye. This will be the main colourof your eye. Blend your medium eyeshadow with the light colour where they meet. Using a thin brush and getting as close to the eyelashes as possible, apply a thin line under your eye. Step 3 Using a thin brush, apply a dark colour eyeshadow very lightly on the fold of your eye. Apply this colour from the middle of your fold to the outer corner and fold to the outer corner and above your eyelashes. Blend the darker colour with a midium colour, giving the outer corner of your eye a darker shade. This can be a darker shade of your medium colour or a natural colour like brown or black. Step 4 Use liquid eyeliner across the top of your eyelashes and on the inside of your bottom eyelid to make your lashes look fuller.

Marketing Manager A marketing manager performs many duties aimed at developing and implementing the long- and short-term marketing strategies of his employer. The broad scope of this task requires him to interact heavily with various departments of his firm, including research and development, manufacturing, supply chain, sales and, in some industries, legal and compliance. Depending on the size of his organization, a marketing manager may also oversee a team of junior marketing professionals.
Brand Development Perhaps the most important duty performed by a marketing manager is the development of her employer’s brand. Consisting of visuals, such as a logo, and sometimes sounds, such as music used in a television or radio advertisement, a brand is the image that comes to mind when customers think of company. Although each of a firm’s products and services may be branded, there is typically a corporate brand that encompasses the entire organization. Partnering with senior management, a marketing manage creates a brand that aligns with the organization’s mission statement. She then directs internal or external media relations and advertising professionals in the implementation of that brand, producing press releases, commercials and other promotional material.
28
Competitive Intelligence In an effort to assist his employer in remaining competitive in the marketplace, a marketing manager performs a multitude of research aimed at ensuring the firm’s foothold in the industry. He may perform customer research by implementing surveys and hosting focus groups. He may also analyse the advertising activities and sales performance of competitors. In addition, he may assess the state of the economy as it relates to the firm’s industry. Once this research has been compiled, a marketing manager creates various reports based upon his findings. These documents are then presented to senior management. Reports based upon the research of the marketing manager are considered by management when making business critical decisions, such as the development of new product lines or the discontinuation of a poorly performing advertising campaign.

THE IMPORTANCE OF A BUDGET What is a budget? A budget is the process of planning how you will spend your money. It helps you determine whether you will have enough money to spend on what you need. It is also balancing between your income and expenses. Balancing between the two helps you determine whether you are spending more than you make (which if you, it is a problem).
Why a budget is important Considering a budget is a process of planning your spending, it is important to have a budget as it helps you keep record of your spending ways. A budget is a way to ensure financial security and can keep you out of debt or if you are already in debt it can help you get out of debt. A budget can help with short term and long term financial goals. It can also help you save for emergencies. Budgeting helps you have control over your money as you become aware of your good and bad spending ways.
How to budget
Determine your net income after all your deductions (take home income) Determine your expenses – fixed (these stay the same every month, e.g. school fees and rent) and variable (groceries, clothing, fuel) expenses Track your spending ways on a regular basis Make the necessary adjustments if you are spending too much Have a plan and set financial goals Be realistic Stick to your budget Review your budget on a monthly basis
Therefore, we can conclude that a having and sticking to a budget is important as it helps us plan our spending ways in order to secure financial security if we make the necessary adjustments to our bad spending habits. Also, it can help us save money, stay or get out of debt and help us meet our financial goals if we are honest to ourselves and realistic about our goals.

For most people, losing weight is no small task. Dieting takes a lot of motivation and dedication, and can become extremely tiresome. While the best strategy is to follow a healthy diet and to exercise regularly, there are a few extra things you can do to aid you in your weight-loss journey. These tips and tricks have been scientifically tried and tested and, best of all, they are all natural. So before you grab the weight-loss shakes or fat-burning pills, try incorporating these easy and natural tips into your daily life to help you shed excess weight. Stock Up on Green Tea There are several benefits to drinking green tea daily, one of them being weight loss. Most nutritionists recommend 2 to 3 cups of unsweetened green tea daily. Green tea contains several antioxidants that aid your body in flushing out toxins and fats. Scientists have also found that green tea increases your energy expenditure thereby helping to burn fat stores. Avoid Processed Foods Processed foods contain a lot of added sugars and calories. They are specifically designed to make you want more, which leads to overeating While they are amazingly convenient and usually affordable, cutting out processed foods from your diet completely will force you to enjoy the benefits of nutritious foods. Swop your morning cup of coffee for a cup green tea and reap the benefits! Replace Fats with Coconut Oil The list of benefits of coconut oil is almost endless. While most people know that coconut oil is rich in Vitamin E, which is good for your skin and hair, not many people are aware of its fatburning benefits. Coconut oil is high in fats called triglycerides, which are metabolised differently to other fats in your body. Coconut oil has also been proven to help reduce belly fat and to speed up your metabolism. Replace your usual cooking oil with coconut oil to avoid unnecessary fats.

Spice Up Your Life It has been scientifically proven that spicy foods can help your body to burn fat. Chilli peppers, green peppers and jalapenos contain the capsaicin compound, which not only boosts your metabolism, but burns fat and helps to reduce your appetite. If you’re not a fan of spicy foods, then try adding just a dash chilli to stews and soups. This will allow you to consume the chilli without tasting the burn.

The True Test Of Strength By: Prophet K Tukwayo "If you falter in a time of trouble how small is your strength!" PROVERBS 24:10. All of us somehow believe that we are strong people, though we may admit our weakness in certain areas, we would never admit that we are altogether weak. If you therefore believe that you are strong the question would be you are strong against what? Strength I think is not wishful thinking, strength is not imagined, strength is actually tested and proved to be there. There is a litmus test that everyone's strength needs to go through, and that is called TROUBLE. The scripture I quoted above, says if you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength. Troubles come to test our endurance. Troubles come to check how brittle you are..
Troubles come to test if our bark is more than our bite. Troubles come to test how bright your light is and if it will quickly be snuffed out by the winds. Troubles come to test if you are standing upon sand or upon the rock, whether you will be blown away or you will stand and after you done standing you will stand again The most important thing, the true test of strength is not faltering. Do not give up, do not give in, fight the good fight of faith. The book of JEREMIAH 12:5 "If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in a safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?" Troubles are forever with us therefore we need not falter against them but face them head on and come out victorious. God bless you.

This is a prayer group and stokvel ladies, and Fumane (Joyce Skefu), the pastor's wife, comes up with a plan to use the evil money to do good. The dramatic new TV show has revealed that money is indeed the root of all evil. Certainly, disaster can be turned into a blessing. And that is exactly what we are about to experience in the new Mzansi Magic drama series “Abomama Bomthandazo”, translated as prayer women, which premiered on Sunday. The drama has captured the hearts of many South Africans. It follows the extraordinary lives of four ordinary, religious women who grapple with temptations and weaknesses – and seem to live by the adage “God helps those who help themselves”. This TV show scrutinises and challenges the four women’s ideas of faith and sin when they are drawn into the criminal underworld and forced to turn their stokvel into a money-laundering scheme. The show features South African favourite Khanyi Mbau, who plays Tshidi and Nokuthula Ledwaba who plays Mapule.
