Bay FM Station Manager Angelique Graaff... We got to know her more outside the office. Tell us more about Angelique Graafff? This is always a tough one I’m a mother of 3, I love being outdoors (I live in a little village), listening to good music, reading. When did you start being a station manager? I became station manager in 2015 What do you do on a daily basis? My schedule is very diverse – I am active in all departments that constitute a community radio station

What do you do when you’re not

– PR, marketing, sales, news,

working?

training, content. No 2 days are the same. My favorite aspect is news

editing and planning interviews

I’m either spending time with family, or I’m shopping (have a definite shoe fetish!) or I volunteer – I am involved with an NGO that helps substance abusers on the road to recovery. Are you a bathroom singer? Definitely!

7

If you were not a station manager

I have so many! But one that

what would you be?

stands out is when my grade 7

I would be a magazine editor. Always imagined my picture in the corner of the first or second page of a lifestyle magazine. Who do you trust for advice?

My mom. Still have to meet someone wiser and kinder than her.

class teacher took myself and a few of my friends along on a trip the then Jade ice rink – I had never been exposed to much beyond my community – this experience made me realize there’s more to life than what I know. It changed the way I saw the world and ice-skating

What is your best Childhood memory?

Your top 3 favorite books Cult Sister by Lesley Smailes, 2. Redeeming love by Francine Rivers and Nothing left to steal by South African journalist, Mzilikazi wa Afrika I’ve read all of these more than once, and I’ve always taken something new out of it each time. Readers are leaders! What is your strongest personal quality?? I hate unfairness. Everyone has a story and everyone deserves a chance. How would your friends describe you? Crazy but kind (I hopeJ) What was your most embarrassing moment? Having a fat conversation with someone I mistook for someone else. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Breast cancer awareness Breast cancer is cancer that develops from breast tissue. Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, fluid coming from the nipple, or a red scaly patch of skin. In those with distant spread of the disease, there may be bone pain, swollen lymph nodes, shortness of breath, or yellow skin. Breast cancer Mammograms showing a normal breast (left) and a breast with cancer (right, white arrows). Specialty Oncology Symptoms Lump in a breast, change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, fluid coming from the nipple, red scaly patch of skin Risk factors Female, obesity, lack of exercise, alcohol, hormone replacement therapy during menopause, ionizing radiation, early age at first menstruation, having children late or not at all, older age, family history, Klinefelter syndrome Diagnostic method Tissue biopsy Treatment Surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, targeted therapy Risk factors for developing breast cancer include being female, obesity, lack of physical exercise, drinking alcohol, hormone replacement therapy during menopause, ionizing radiation, early age at first menstruation, having children late or not at all, older age, and family history About 5–10% of cases are due to genes inherited from a person's parents, including BRCA1 and BRCA2 among others.

Breast cancer most commonly develops in cells from the lining of milk ducts and the lobules that supply the ducts with milk. Cancers developing from the ducts are known as ductal carcinomas, while those developing from lobules are known as lobular carcinomas. In addition, there are more than 18 other sub-types of breast cancer. Some cancers, such as ductal carcinoma in situ, develop from pre-invasive lesions. The diagnosis of breast cancer is confirmed by taking a biopsy of the concerning lump. Once the diagnosis is made, further tests are done to determine if the cancer has spread beyond the breast and which treatments it may respond to.

Outcomes for breast cancer vary depending on the cancer type, extent of disease, and person's age. Survival rates in the developed world are high, with between 80% and 90% of those in England and the United States alive for at least 5 years. In developing countries survival rates are poorer, worldwide, breast cancer is the leading type of cancer in women, accounting for 25% of all cases. In 2012 it resulted in 1.68 million new cases and 522,000 deaths. It is more common in developed countries and is more than 100 times more common in women than in men Signs and symptoms Breast cancer Breast cancer showing an inverted nipple, lump, and skin dimpling. The first noticeable symptom of breast cancer is typically a lump that feels different from the rest of the breast tissue. More than 80% of breast cancer cases are discovered when the woman feels a lump.

12

The earliest breast cancers are detected by a mammogram. Lumps found in lymph nodes located in the armpits can also indicate breast cancer. Indications of breast cancer other than a lump may include thickening different from the other breast tissue, one breast becoming larger or lower, a nipple changing position or shape or becoming inverted, skin puckering or dimpling, a rash on or around a nipple, discharge from nipple/s, constant pain in part of the breast or armpit, and swelling beneath the armpit or around the collarbone, Pain ("mastodynia") is an unreliable tool in determining the presence or absence of breast cancer, but may be indicative of other breast health issues. Inflammatory breast cancer is a particular type of breast cancer which can pose a substantial diagnostic challenge. Symptoms may resemble a breast inflammation and may include itching, pain, swelling, nipple inversion, warmth and redness throughout the breast, as well as an orange-peel texture to the skin referred to as peau d'orange. As inflammatory breast cancer does not present as a lump there can sometimes be a delay in diagnosis.

Another reported symptom complex of breast cancer is Paget's disease of the breast. This syndrome presents as skin changes resembling eczema, such as redness, discoloration, or mild flaking of the nipple skin. As Paget's disease of the breast advances, symptoms may include tingling, itching, increased sensitivity, burning, and pain. There may also be discharge from the nipple. Approximately half of women diagnosed with Paget's disease of the breast also have a lump in the breast. It is wise to go for a check-up regularly.

Chilling with the creatives is an art exhibition founded by Innocent Kgothatso Moreki and Mackson Gopolang taking inspiration from the streets unruffled, very smart and organised founded art influencers. The influence of fashion on every day life

D

o you also wake up every morning and wonder to yourself, what on earth am I going to wear? Is the fashion or latest trends spread your favourite part of the Grazia Magazine? Or do you just love stealing a few vintage pieces from your mom's wardrobe and modernizing that with what's in style today? If you can answer yes to some or all of the above, then we're on the same page. Fashion, fashion and more fashion. Now, the main topic at hand is - the influence of fashion on every day life. Undoubtedly, fashion is one era that has evolved over the years. It has taken us from hipster corduroy and turtleneck days to lace, bold prints, florals and embroidered denim. We've seen an immense change of trends over time and it would be safe to say, fashion designers now take 'thinking out of the box' to a whole new level. So then, how does fashion influence our lives on a daily? Through fashion, people have been able to adapt more to the importance of self-image. It's no longer about just throwing on the first top one sees when they open their wardrobe and couple it with that dirty pair of old boring jeans. We are now more conscious of what we wear, how we wear it and with what. So the improvement of one's self-image would be the first pro. We even have what we would call image consultants, these days - that's where people go for assistance in terms of their image.

19

untied The second influence of fashion in our every day life is - freedom of expression. A tiny example, have you seen men's fashion now, compared to what it was ten plus years ago? Would you agree that it has changed drastically? Men are now introduced to more skinnier fits and slightly feminine cuts to suit the modern man. Baggy jeans and bootlegs for who? Nobody's doing that. The ladies now rock boyfriend jeans which are slightly oversized than the normal ones. Even with colour, we now see a lot of olive greens, different shades of blue, yellow, red and so on. All this has influenced the art of freedom of expression , because people now literally wear whatever they want and however they want. No one really cares. So with that said, fashion really has and still does play a vital role in our modern every day lives - namely self image and freedom of expression. That's how the fashion cookie crumbles. Until next time. written by Lutho Vani

TIMELESS LOOK SCOPE SCOOP YOURSELF SOME IMPORTANT TRENDING INFORMATION NO EDUCATOR WOULD EVER GIVE TO YOU TO ACE THE TEST !!! FRESH & TRENDING!!! 

KEEPING YOUR LOOK CLEAN YES! You heard, clean, clean is prim and proper and its the best way to hind those few flaws and edges you don’t want people to see and know about, without having to say a word- because we all know that ``the first impression says a lot about you``

STAY NATURAL Keep clam, stay confident and be sure about your look. When applying your make-up try to enhance your face structure and look- show them that you are the baddest, in other words a little bit of contour would do the trick just fine.

ADDING A TWIST TO THE TREND AND KEEPING REAL We all want what’s trending YES, but it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t add a taste of your own style, because we all have different body shapes, taste and style- so what suits your favorite celeb or best friend might not suit you the same way.

CREATE TRENDS You know what they say `` join them if you can’t beat them`` well how about beating them for sure? Play with your items, mix what’s new and old and make it suit your personality- trust me they will soon follow your style and make it fashion. By Xolisa Zozi

Taking care of your lips

With a little loving care, your lips can be perfect in no time. Just follow these seven steps—and then pucker up! Take a water bottle with you wherever you go. Drinking enough water the equivalent of at least 9 cups of fluids daily will keep the body, skin and lips hydrated. Lick the smacking habit. Licking your lips damages the protective barrier, which can dry out the lips. Saliva contains digestive enzymes that can break down this barrier. Instead, regularly apply lip balm. Look for hydrating ingredients like beeswax, shea butter, vitamin E and almond, jojoba or coconut oils. Good old petroleum jelly works well too. If you have sensitive skin, use camphor-based medicated lip balms sparingly. Always protect your lips. Lips are susceptible to sunburn since they lack melanin, the pigment that helps shield skin from the sun. Apply a layer of a sun-protective product daily like Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer SPF 15. Don't make matte forever. Matte lipsticks can be extremely drying which helps these lipsticks stay put for so long. That's why you should use them sparingly when your lips are extremely chapped. Instead, alternate use of them with hydrating lipsticks

Beauty is only skin deep

I

n a society where physical beauty is an important part of who we are. We all want to look beautiful in our pictures; have the most likes on social media and that is okay.

The world does not need to see us when we not at our prettiest. But the term beauty is not only limited to the physical features. Beauty is an unpolluted mind, heart and soul. Inner beauty captivates hearts, it lights up the room, it turns a bad day into a good day and it makes others beautiful too. It is a reflection of how we present ourselves to the world. Inner beauty is the ability to confidently stand tall and face the world, the ability to remove negativity in your life and focus on positive energy. It is being grateful and generous. It is having morals, integrity and showing that you care. It is selfbelief that you are beautiful from within and not only the reflection on the mirror; it is compassion and kindness. It is the glow of confidence and bright eyes. Inner beauty is having courage and strength. Inner beauty is radiance, it is a positive attitude towards life and our surroundings. Inner beauty is selfrespect, in respecting ourselves we are able to eliminate ourselves from situations whereby we are disrespected by others. Inner beauty is not the size you weigh, the type of hair on your head or even the clothes you wear. Why then as humans are we so obsessed with outer beauty? In all fairness, outer beauty is a great bonus.

39

It is the type of beauty that is pleasant to the eyes, first glance type of beauty. Outer beauty does however, changes, what was seen as beautiful yesterday might not be seen as beautiful today. It does not fade, but it is a type of beauty that changes. Inner beauty on the other hand is forever beautiful. It doesn’t age nor does it change, it is forever. Outer beauty corresponds with inner beauty and is made visible for everyone to see. Therefore, present your truest form of beauty to the world – inner beauty. Beauty that captivates hearts and matures with time. Spring is a symbol of rebirth and new beginnings, take advantage of this season. Challenge yourself to exercise your inner beauty. Your outer beauty is only skin deep. True beauty is the reflection of the soul. Inner beauty is what people remember us by when we are not in their presence because of how we made them feel. It is the ability to touch another and inspire them to be beautiful too.

untied Losing yourself in your friendship It has been proven that you can never please everyone around you. What you enjoy and like is probably not the cup someone else uses for tea. You will find that there is that friend in our circle that forces everyone to do the things they like. Or that sibling who is an oppressor, if she hates vegies she forces you to also pretend that you don't like it so that mom could not buy it. We will also sacrifice ourselves for our jobs, our family and our friends and sometimes even for people we don’t even care about. I think that we do it because we think that we need some peripheral thing to make us treasured. Do you find that when you are talking to other people that you always say WE instead of ME? That is when you have sunk in deeply in the ship of the enemy and there is absolutely nothing a human hand can do to save you. When your friends have decided to go out and they choose for you which restaurant is nicest, without even knowing it they even choose what you will be having for dinner because what you want to order is not good enough. This also happens with your husband. Whatever he says goes and you even forget the things you adored. You end up thinking that your thoughts and opinions are not as important as you spouses. You sometimes find yourself going against your own moral compass and often end up in tears over it.

The ignorance is sometimes the result of fear, because sometimes we fear that we will lose our friends or loved ones, so we end up hurting ourselves to avoid the truth. We chose to keep shoving our heads in the sand and focusing on anything and everything else but what is really begging for our attention. The bad thing about shoving one’s head in the sand is that eventually you will start to suffocate and be forced to pull your head out and take a look around. You have to start to learn how to speak up for yourself before it is too late. Find yourself again, remind yourself what mattered to you before you met the people in your life now. If it’s your family that you find yourself trapped in between, you need to know what triggered the situation, find the root of the matter. When you are done, accept yourself the way that you are and they will have to do so as well. Teach them how to appreciate you, more importantly teach them how to treat you. They must know your heart, they must know that you are also your own person

Ignorance: you ignore the tiny voice in your head that is telling you that something is wrong? This is the big collapse in terms of losing yourself and your integrity. Sometimes you know deep down your heart that what you are doing is completely wrong but you ignore.

careers

Follow your own path

W

hen we are growing up we were often encouraged to become either a nurse, domestic worker, gardener, or a teacher,. and that is all because the generations before us knew nothing else It doesn’t matter which one you choose but you had to choose between these professions or you will not be taken seriously. The entire family will be packed with teachers and nurses and that was normal. But as time went by, engineers, administrators, technicians, journalists, arose. Parents’ no longer forces their children to study what they think is best for them but they support their kids in whatever career path they follow.

Thinking about your future and the career you want to pursue? Well you have to think carefully on that one, you don’t want to end up doing something you hate. Some people choose their careers because they heard that there is tons of money in there. So that becomes their motivation to pursue that career. Some choose a career because it seems like an easy thing to do, and so they totally ignore that you need love and passion for what you do. Then when things don’t go as planned they become frustrated and full of regrets. Just a piece of free advice; choose a career that you makes you happy, don’t choose because you think you can make lots of money in it. You may not make the kind of money you pictured, and that will frustrate you and you will become an angry and unhappy being.

Before you make a decision, do a selfintrospection. That will help you realise what you like and what you don’t like, what you tolerate and what you don’t. You will also recognise your talents if you have already forgotten about them or unleash some hidden talents. Who knows? To me doing something you love and that which you are good at is more rewarding that a fat pay cheque from a career that makes you feel miserable. Remember that even Rome wasn’t built in one day so, as time goes your career will flourish and you could make as many money as you want. Attend career guidance workshops and find yourself a mentor, which is a step you should take after the self-introspection. A mentor will somehow help you make a right decision, they will not be dishonest with you and they know even more than you think you know. When choosing a mentor, choose one that is relevant to the career path you want to take. Just to rephrase what I just said; you need to sit down and conduct a self-introspection, get to know yourself once again. Realise your talents and gifts, consider what you love and not love, what you tolerate and what you don’t tolerate. Choose from what you come out with. Attend career guidance workshops and find yourself someone who will mentor you. This will make things much easier for you and it is rewarding.

How to

How to Open a Restaurant Opening a new restaurant can be a risky business venture, but with the right planning, financing and lots of hard work it's definitely achievable. Owning a successful restaurant could be one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of your life. So go out and show them what you are made of. Determine a food concept. A food concept is the first thing to consider when planning on opening a restaurant. Are you aiming for a family-style steakhouse, upscale French cuisine or a quickservice traditional restaurant? Having a food concept will give your potential customers some idea of what they can expect from your restaurant. Determining a food concept from the get-go will also help you to structure and organize other aspects of your business. Some potential food concepts include: seafood, steakhouse, casual-dining, ethnic restaurant, pizzeria, sandwich shop, coffeehouse, etc. Once you have decided on a food concept, you can begin crafting your menu. Don't worry about pricing or exact recipes to begin with, just try to get a logic of how your menu can best reflect your chosen food concept. Some things to consider when planning a menu include: what potential competitors are offering, where you will source the required ingredients, special equipment or layout requirements for the preparation of menu items and whether any special personnel skills will be required. Consider the atmosphere. The atmosphere or ambiance of the restaurant is another important factor, relating to the food concept. Many varied factors contribute to the ambiance of a restaurant, such as furniture, lighting, dish and glassware, servers' uniforms, music, serving style and clientele. Having an idea of the ambiance you wish to create is important as it will help to guide you during the decision-making process. Always keep an image of what you aim to achieve in mind.

Plan on a serving style. Your food concept, target customers and location will all play a role in deciding on a service style. There are three main service styles: quick-service, mid-scale and upscale. It is important to decide which category your restaurant falls in to, as this distinction will help shape future decisions, such as staffing requirements and pricing. Quick-service restaurants, or fast-food restaurants, are known for their low-cost menus and quick preparation. Examples include burger joints, pizza restaurants and ethnic foods. Mid-scale restaurants fall halfway between fastfood and upscale restaurants. They offer full service and good value menus. Some mid-scale restaurants include buffets and salad bars. Upscale restaurants pride themselves on providing excellent food and high quality service. Fine-dining establishments are the fanciest type of restaurant available - they offer the best quality food at the highest prices.

Research the cost. It is imperative that you are fully aware of how much your new business venture is going to cost. Do your homework. Talk to other restaurant and local business owners. Find out about rent, insurance and permit costs. The more information you have, the more financially prepared you can be. Craft a business plan. A comprehensive, accurate business plan is the most critical component of opening a new restaurant. In fact, the success or failure of your restaurant can hinge on the strength of your business plan, so make sure to do it right. When you're writing a business plan you should include: As much financial information as possible. Include details on your start-up capital (how much money you have and where it’s coming from), as well an estimate of your long-term income and expenditure. Information on how you plan to market your restaurant. Details of your plan to hire and train employees, as well as an outline of any 46 employee retention

Looking your best: a lifestyle change is as good as a makeover

T

here are various things we can do, buy or use to improve our appearance or how we feel about ourselves. These “quick fix” solutions might be adequate but, they aren’t always permanent or healthy. One thing that we can do to improve on our appearance and emotional state is dieting and healthy eating. Dieting has very positive effects on your physical and mental wellbeing. What you eat is a big determinant of how you perform physically throughout the day. Strength, agility, coordination, and overall efficiency is powered by what you eat. Your

49

Performance level in day to day activities become less of an effort when you make healthy meals part of your lifestyle. Attempting physical activities with an unhealthy diet becomes somewhat of an exhausting, depleting effort that will eventually be followed by pain, stress and strain. When you consume foods filled with sugar, simple carbs, and saturated fat, you put yourself at risk of developing chronic illnesses that may threaten your life. Diabetes and obesity is one of the many long-term consequences of unhealthy eating habits.

The brain; one of the most important muscles in the body that is powered by what we eat. The brain is easily affected by what we consume, either for the better or the worse. What we eat has a direct effect on our mental and emotional health, but furthermore enhances our capabilities to better learn and memorise different things. A healthy diet also helps lower the chances of you developing illnesses of the mind like depression, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and schizophrenia.

Our appearance is largely affected by what we eat, and when we look good, we feel good, right? When you feel good about how you look you communicate better within your social groups and respond better to social obstacles/challenges like speaking in front of groups or getting to know other people. Dieting and healthy eating, as we can see, has a positive effect on our health. Not only does it improve our physical performance and mental capabilities but, it also gives us a major confidence boost. Looking good is not just something we need to strive towards for the sake of looking good, rather to improve our overall performance and giving our body a break from all the unhealthy eating that we bombard it with.

ntied spiritual STAYING AFLOAT IN GOD. By: Prophet K Tukwayo

I

know I had promised to continue on last month's topic on our heritage in Christ, but true to my relationship with the Holy Spirit He has hijacked me again and sent me to a totally different direction. I have learnt to obey the Holy Spirit as a result I can't even commit to a message, I come to church with a message and He would change it while am still sitting down, therefore I promise to go back and finish that other topic some other time.

Today I want to speak on something that the Holy Spirit has been ministering to me in the last two weeks, staying afloat in Him. Looking at my life and all that I have been through I should have sunk a long time ago into the abyss of my misery and pain but God has kept me afloat. I did a little digging to find out what makes a ship stay afloat in the vast waters of the sea, and this is what I found out: 1." To stay afloat the cruise ship has to displace its weight in water before it's submerged. This simply means the ship must be much lighter in density than the sea water". When I heard this I understood the word in MATTHEW 11:2830 "Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your soul.

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Christ in this scripture was in essence giving us the clues and the tip in how to stay afloat for if we are carrying heavy burdens we will surely sink. Also in that word Christ hid a great recipe for floating in life, for He says be gentle and humble to show that the reason we are burdened is because we hard on ourselves and our lack of humility puts all the unnecessary pressures that make us seek things that we cannot afford or sometimes don't even need. 2 ""Large ships utilize displacement hulls, or hulls that push water out of the way to stay afloat. A round- bottom displacement hull looks like a rectangle with rounded edges to dissipate force exerted against a moving object. The rounded edges minimize the force of water against the hull allowing large heavy ships to move smoothly." When I read this I was amazed at how the shape of the hull was important in keeping the ship afloat, therefore it says to me as a Christian you must take a certain shape to be afloat. Be well rounded, meaning you cannot excel at one thing and neglect the others. If you good at worship does not mean you must neglect prayer, word and fasting, we must master a bit of everything for us to stay afloat, any imbalance will sink the ship, therefore be a well rounded Christian.

50 52

STAYING AFLOAT IN GOD. 3. Third and last, "unfortunately, accidents do happen. In order to prevent cruise ships from sinking should something penetrate the first two lines of defence, vertical watertight dividers known as bulkheads are installed throughout the interior of the hull." It is important for us not to be careless about our Christianity, take the necessary precautions. Know your weaknesses and not make yourself vulnerable to that. If you still fighting with demon of alcohol it won't be wise for you to evangelise in a she been, the hospital would be the safest place for you.

The hull has two layers to prevent water from seeping in in an accident and sink the ship. What protection do you have against your principles and values? Do you cover yourself under the blood of Jesus daily against the accidents that seek to sink you? 1 PETER 5:8 -9"Be alert and sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of suffering. "

I’m sure along with everyone else you ask yourself if the parental guidance (PG) age restriction still works. Well to be honest it depends on the parents and how well educated they are on movies age restrictions. The saddest part is that

some parents are not well educated and such lack of knowledge allows young people unlimited freedom when it comes to watching movies.

To sum up, I understand there are many advantages of watching television and movies. People are able to release

stress by watching movies and television has educational programs for young people. But you cannot deny that young people should have more time to play with others outside so that they can have interactions with them, and it is much better to read a book to gain knowledge.
