Lieutenant Governor’s Message Can you believe that we are already halfway through summer? That also means that we are a quarter of the way through the term! I hope you all have made use of your break creating an annual plan and setting personal goals for the rest of the year! Speaking of goals, I am proud to say that we are well on our way to achieving our division goals for service hours! We currently have 1584 hours of our goal of 4000 service hours. While this is an amazing accomplishment, we still have a long way to go to reach our goal. If each and every one of you makes sure to always record your service hours with your secretary and attend as many service events you can (both club level and division level), then we will reach our goal in no time! What is more impressive is that we have raised $2177 out of our division goal of $3000! This is a big accomplishment and I cannot wait to see how the rest of the year unfolds. Keep planning those fundraisers for the rest of summer and continue taking advantage of vacation time. With all of your dedication and hard work, we can definitely surpass our division goal before the halfway mark of the term! Now on a more serious note, I want to reiterate how important communication is. Even though there will be times when things come up that prevent you from communicating with others, please do not make the mistake of procrastinating on a response. I personally have made this mistake and I can confidently say that it can create some really big problems. So, please please please make sure to pay attention to all the emails, texts, and calls that you receive. You don’t want to create unnecessary stress or work for yourself. In terms of stress and work, I want to remind all of you to take a break every once in awhile to breath and relax. The upcoming year of school can be intimidating and scary with new classes, multiple curricular activities, intense competitions, and much more. Do not forget your responsibilities and duties, but also do not forget that your wellbeing is very important. After all, you cannot help others if you cannot help yourself first. Use your time wisely, work hard towards your goals, and remember that progress is gradual. I hope you all have an amazing last month of summer everyone! Please contact me if you have any questions :-) See you all soon! With the spirit of service,
Kayla Tai

"This year was my first time attending Key Club Training Conference and I'm glad to say I did! KCTC was a great learning experience and a great way to bond with people many other Key Club's. At KCTC we played many ice breakers in the beginning. Afterwards see separated into our Red Robin groups. These were the groups in which we moved from station to station. Each station was centered around a various aspect of Key Club or leadership skill. My favorite workshop was definitely the "gaining members" one to me the best part of the day was the sand castle building contest! KCTC is an event I would recommend to any keyclubber, officer or not." Mariah Padilla El Camino Key Club

On Saturday, June 24, I attended KCTC, or Key Club Training Conference. The road to KCTC was long and confusing, literally and figuratively. It was about a two-hour drive to Watsonville from Belmont, so we had to get up pretty early. But the planning of KCTC was difficult as well. At first, we were all excited to go, but then we learned that since our Lieutenant Governor, or LTG (Kayla Tai), would not be able to attend, so our entire division couldn’t go. Then we had to start planning our own division-wide training conference. Meanwhile, the board members of Carlmont Key Club started planning the June DCM, or Division Council Meeting. Then we found out we were allowed to attend KCTC and decided to turn the June DCM that we had originally planned into a fundraiser because we would have had the June DCM at KCTC. Later, we realized we could not have the June DCM at KCTC because our LTG would be absent, thus Carlmont’s DCM-to-fundraiser was back to a DCM. Although that must have been extremely confusing, that is more or less how the Division 34 North’s planning of KCTC went down. When we were finally at KCTC, I had tons of fun and learned a lot. I enjoyed having time to just goof off with my friends during lunch and eat tofu hotdogs. KCTC was a great experience for me, and I am super excited for next year.

At KCTC I learned a lot about how to become not only a better secretary but a better member. There were many stations set up along the beach that each focused on one specific goal. The presenters were mostly LTGs and Club officers. Afterwards, we had a nice lunch consisting of hot dogs and assorted snacks. We ended the day with a fun 15 minute sandcastle building competition. Since our LTG was not present, we had to combine with D34S. In the end, we received third place in voting with 86 dollars.
Relax and eat hotdogs, chips, bananas, and cookies for lunch!

On June 24, Aragon Key Club, along with other clubs from Division 34 North and across Region 17, participated in Key Club Training Conference at Manresa State Beach. At this region-wide event, we attended various workshops with a short lunch break in between. Following the workshops, each division held their own DCMs, however, having already held ours, we played a series of ice breakers followed by a division sand sculpture building contest where we partnered up with Division 34 South to raise over $80!
Sylvia Young Aragon Key Club "I attended 2017's KCTC and it's my first one! I gotta say, it was such a blast! I got to learn so many things about not just my officer duties, but also how to be outspoken in an uplifting manner! I got to bond with so many new people through icebreakers and Red Robin Workshops! My favorite station was definitely "BEE-ing a leader"! With the lively enthusiasm, it just made the event so much greater. At the end of the event. we got to do a sandcastle competition with all the divisions and it was so fun to collaborate with D34 South! 10/10 would recommend to go to KCTC for anyone interested in Key Club!"

In the month of June, South City’s Key Club participated in several events such as Tour de Cure and the KCTC. We are currently working on our own key club website and planning for our DCM in September.

Unfortunately, again we have not been too active this past month. We had a couple people attend KCTC and are planning some events and fundraisers for this month. Which I hope our members will go to. -Jason Fong
San Mateo
This summer, San Mateo High School made it a priority to take part in district events, as previous commitments prevented us from hosting any of our own. On June 19th, we held a board meeting which served as our visitation, which helped us figure out our plans for the upcoming year. Members also attended the Coyote Point Cleanup, an event that allowed us to contribute to our community in a meaningful way. This month, we plan on focusing on contributing more as a club, and increasing our impact on the community.

Good Job South San Francisco for being the only club to submit their club summary early!

As the first month of summer vacation is on its way and school comes to a halt for a bit, Key Club continues to keep on rolling. This past month, El Camino High School’s Key club had some fun in the summer fun. We enjoyed the June DCM hosted by Carlmont where our division not only raised funds for PTP but one of our officers, Mariah Padilla, was elected as PTP Task Coordinator for the term. It’s great to see our club get more engaged at a division level considering that was one of our points of emphasis this year to improve upon. Furthermore, we helped out at the Polhemus water station during Tour de Cure. There, we were able to help provide water of the participants, control traffic on the crosstreet, and most importantly cheer them on. Just last week we continued with our summer beach clean-ups at Ocean Beach where we cleaned up a great amount of trash off the sand after a pretty chaotic July 4th weekend at the beach where much trash is unfortunately just tossed on the ground. We also ended the beach clean up by climbing a considerably large rock and enjoyed some great views on top of it. In the following months we are preparing to hold a trivia contest within our school to raise money for PTP in September, and that will be our major focus for the rest of the summer and heading into the beginning of the school year. -Umar Patel pg. 8
Westmoor
This month Westmoor Key Club has not been as active due to the summer break, but we have been planning for the upcoming August DCM. It will be the first time Westmoor's new board will be hosting a DCM and we are very excited. Our board has been brainstorming several ideas for a service event, and looking for ways to help our community. Since the school year will be starting soon, we are also preparing volunteering events for our club members, and thinking of ways to engage our members in our weekly meetings.

In the last few weeks Carlmont Key Club has had several activities. We began the month with the July DCM at Burton Park, which we planned. We went to KTCT with seven members. We also had our July board meeting, at which we planned the Ice Cream Social fund raiser that we held today. The funds will go to the Pediatric Trauma Program.

Aragon
In the past month, Aragon Key Club has been busy at work with various events. We had several members attend a Coyote Point clean up. Every year, the Kiwanis Club of Greater San Mateo host a clean up at Coyote Point Park to remove invasive species and other debris from our adopted area. We also volunteered at the 4th of July Carnival hosted by Woodside Terrace AM Club in Redwood City. Several members from Aragon also attended Carlmont's Ice Cream Social. For the rest of the month, we plan on attending the Division Beach Clean up on the 29th and plan to attend a clean up at San Bruno Mountain in recognition of this month's spotlight on service. -Alex Ma

Banana Points Q.What are banana points and why are they important? A. Banana points are a currency that every club can earn by sending in articles and visuals and attending important division-wide events. Whichever club has earned the most banana points for the month will receive the Spirit Stick and add their own decorations to it! However, the club that has earned the most banana points by the end of the year will win a mystery prize!

Ralston Middle School Graduation
On the morning June 14th, I volunteered for Ralston middle schools graduation. Four other volunteers and I set up chairs for the attendees. There were also adults helping us. Two people would fold out the chairs while the volunteers would place the chairs in rows. We set up 1200 chairs in total. It took 45 minutes. I enjoyed this event as it was not too difficult and the weather was nice. Also, I liked that we could talk with friends while setting up chairs. The other people helping us were nice too. Overall, I would do this event again. Jessica Yu Carlmont Key Club
