Happy January!
How is it already 2021?? I hope your New Year has been going well so far! I hope you are all so proud of what you have accomplished in 2020, despite the circumstances. I know it is cliche, but with a new year comes an opportunity to make some new resolutions! With January here, means that we are near the end of this term :(( That means that new leadership opportunities will arise within our division, whether that be club or division level positions. I would highly recommend looking over the Leadership Showcase sections of the newsletters to learn about the different leadership opportunities and what are the jobs of each position. I know that you all have worked extremely hard this term and I hope that you all apply for the positions you are wishing to obtain. You never know what will happen, so apply even if you have doubts :)) I hope you are all well rested from this break and ready to conquer this new year! Whether you have resolutions to accomplish within Key Club, academically, or any other way, I wish you all the best of luck! Be on the lookout for ways to contribute to your community as well as fundraisers that are coming up! See you all soon (virtually) and I hope you all enjoy this issue. As usual please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions at all <3
Thanks,
Amber Chia

LTG Challenge: Who is somebody that you met in 2020 that made your year better?
Lieutenant Governor
Happy New Year! I’m so excited to see what opportunities lie in this new year ahead of us. Remember to enjoy the time before we have to go back to school because it definitely won’t last forever. Make sure to start off strong and stay on top of all of your school work so that this semester runs smoothly. I believe in you guys! In terms of Key Club, I’m excited to announce that we will have a new Lieutenant Governor-Elect by the end of this month when Conclave occurs! This will be a super special event where each school helps to elect the new Lieutenant Governor of the 2021-2022 term. Look out for more information regarding how you can attend or be a delegate at this important event. Lastly, I want to thank you guys for continuing to be dedicated to Key Club even after so much time being spent online. You guys have been the spark in my life that keeps me going. I hope to eventually see you guys in person by the end of this term. We just have to stay safe and keep our hopes up that it becomes safe enough for us to see each other again! With that being said, I hope each of you have a wonderful 2021 filled with so many fun experiences and memories. You deserve it. Keep pushing and I hope to see you online soon!

Happy News Years Aqua Apes, I hope everyone had a good winter break, two weeks filled with joy and laughter. If you don’t celebrate the past holidays, like me, then I hope you took this time for self-care or regular family time. New year new opportunities, have a lookout for new events or maybe run for a club or division or even district positions. I promise you won’t regret it. Also, make a list of new resolutions or goals for 2021. Take this chance to be been more perfect. It’s already 2021, that’s crazy, we got through a difficult year and I’m so proud of you guys. Hopefully, this year brings good news and our situation becomes a little better. However, the amazing work and dedication you guys do online is an inspiration. Sadly, there are only 3-4 months left in the term, but I can’t wait to hear about the wonderful things you do after this term. Always feel free to reach out if you need help, even after this term! I can’t wait to see you at future events! Remember to take advantage of this new year!

Hope you all had a well deserved winter break! It was so nice to see so many people at the holiday DCM and Jefferson’s and Carlmont’s event as well. This year went by so fast and despite these circumstances, we were able to break our service hours goal, which I am more than proud of. Come the new year, I hope you guys have made your new year’s resolutions and a goal to keep on serving! Putting finals behind us, I hope that I’ll see you guys at division events and keep on recruiting members! If you haven’t already, I strongly suggest you all start your applications for distinguished or your E-Portfolios that are due in February. Again, cheers to a new year and I could not be more proud of all the work we have done together to better our communities! As always, if you have any questions or just want to reach out, don’t hesitate to do so!

Challenge D34N Color Kindness Challenge D34N Color Kindness Challenge D34N Color Kindness Challenge
The Color Kindness event was a super fun division wide service event hosted by San Mateo Key Club. The purpose of this event was to spread kindness and gratitude towards frontline workers. The event started with an ice breaker where key clubbers talked and connected with one another about the superior type of rice. Personally in the breakout room I was in, we all had a great time bonding over similar opinions and even expanded to other conversation subjects. After the ice breaker, we all got started on making cards and drawings. We spent about an hour and ten minutes creating as many amazing cards and drawings as we wanted. Overall, I had a wonderful time and thought this event had a great impact on many. Bailey Wong Aragon
I attended San Mateo’s Kindness Challenge event on November 6th. I found the event pretty relaxing. Similarly to other events in the past, we made cards for the frontline workers near us. I drew hearts and flowers on mine, since I find those to be friendly and cute. Overall, it was a simple and enjoyable event. Darren Chen Westmoor
At the Color Kindness Service Project, we made cards expressing all our gratitude to frontline workers! I really enjoyed this event because I got the chance to make cards for workers who deserve tons of appreciation during these times. I hope that seeing all the thanks and support brings smiles to their faces! I was also able to meet a bunch of new people from the division through icebreakers which was a great bonus. I loved seeing everyone’s cards and faces by the end of the event, and I hope that everything gets delivered safely! Jasmine Bao Lowell Key Club
Color Kindness was a division-wide event that was hosted by San Mateo highschool. At this event, we made cards for frontline workers who need to be thanked for all they do for other people. Over 70 people came to this event and bonded in breakout rooms before making the cards. I really enjoyed creating the cards, it’s always fun to feel like you are going to make someone’s day just a little bit better. It’s amazing how just some words of appreciation can turn a person’s mood around, and make them happy. While making the cards we listened to some music, which made the experience even more enjoyable! The cards were mailed to any local hospitals in need of some encouraging words. Overall I thought that this event was a great way to tell the frontline workers how they are our heroes. Kiana Beigi Carlmont

CRANES FOR This event was enjoyable to partake in. Creating various cranes for a good purpose influenced us to participate in this event. In addition, music was being played whilst we folded the origami. My fellow peers were kind and were open to many of us despite our cameras being off. They were understandable of the situations during these strenuous times. I hope to do this event once again in the near future. Arian Villena Westmoor Cranes for World Peace was a great event where we were able to show support for the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. I was excited for this event since I used to do origami in elementary school and still had lots of origami paper at home. We began the event with an fun icebreaker and then played some music while we folded our paper cranes. Although they won’t be hung for a few months, I can imagine all our cranes will look amazing. Abigail Lee Lowell On Saturday November 14, I attended and hosted the Cranes for World Peace Division wide service event. During this event I facilitated my breakout room as well as made several cranes. I then mailed these cranes out to The Nuclear Peace Foundation. My favorite part of this event was when I finally finished making my origami crane. I’m not good at making origami, so I felt very accomplished when I had finished. Overall, I feel that this event went smoothly, but I do need to note that I should pick clearer directions the next time I host an event that involves following directions.

WORLD PEACE On November 14, El Camino Key Club from Division 34 North hosted an interclub service event called Cranes for World Peace. Participants folded paper cranes to send to the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, an organization that is dedicated to the disarmament of nuclear weapons for a safer world without the threat of nuclear annihilation. Since cranes serve as a symbol of peace, eternal youth, and happiness, the purpose of sending them to this organization was to spread positivity. Key Clubbers learned that every August, the month that atomic bombs were dropped in Japan (during World War 2), the Sadako Peace Garden is decorated with thousands of cranes. For me, it was a great experience and a way for me to revisit my hobby of folding origami when I was younger. Not only was the inter-club event a great opportunity to spread peace and positivity, it also gave members a chance to socialize with other people from different schools! Kaelyn Tam Carlmont
On Saturday, November 14th, El Camino Key Club hosted the Cranes for World Peace division-wide service event! We got together to fold origami cranes that we would mail to the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation as a message to try to abolish nuclear weapons and create a world of peace. El Camino Key Club presented to us about how the cranes would be strung together on one string and put together to create a symbol of unity and peace. I remembered folding cranes for the Cranes for a Cure event during the summer but it still took me a second to refresh my memory. Once I did, I had a bunch of fun just vibing to music, talking to other key clubbers, and folding origami cranes for a good cause :) Evan Yang Aragon

Cards for
Kiwanis
9
The Thank You Kiwanis division service project was dedicated to making get well cards for LTG Derik Lubich, who recently had a stroke. We made either physical or e-cards, and some people even did both. I enjoyed being able to support one of our LTG’s while also letting out some of my creativity. During the event, we also wrote messages to Kiwanians to thank them. This was a great way to show Derek and Kiwanians our appreciation. Grace Park Lowell
This was Westmoor’s second Division Wide Event, and my board and I had a blast planning it. We were so happy with all the lovely messages to Derek Lubich. After reading his response it was heartwarming. I’m glad to have made the day of someone who worked so hard to ensure us the best Kiwanis and Key Club experience. Although I personally never met Derek, I have heard so many great things and I still see the work he puts into Kiwanis. Attending most of the DCM, I could feel his spirit and energy and it was inspiring. I’m thankful to also give back a little to the Kiwanis that shaped me into the person/leader I am today. Reading all the messages on the kudobard and padlet put a smile to my face as I saw although we are physically separated, we can still be emotionally connected. I’m truly thankful to everyone I meet and bonded with during my key club journey my board, faculty advisor, fellow dlt members, Kristen our LTG, and my Kiwanis advisors George and Gerry. I’m happy we got to host this event to give back to Derek and the rest of the Kiwanis for the work they do for us. Anni Zhang Westmoor
In cards for Kiwanis we made appreciation cards for our Kiwanis as well as for our Kiwanis LTG Derek Lubich. We started the event with icebreakers and then we went into instructions for how to make our cards. I started by making a post online to Derek Lubich where I wished for his quick recovery and how he is an amazing person. I also made an appreciation post for our Kiwanis as they do so much for Key Club and help us so much. This event allowed D34N to show our appreciation for Kiwanis and wished for Derek’s recovery. DCM November
11
At the November DCM, Key Clubbers from 14 schools came together over Zoom to celebrate Thanksgiving, but in Key Club style: Keysgiving. During this event, not only were general updates regarding past and future events given, but over 20 past Key Club alumni shared their individual stories, college tips, and advice. Key Clubbers got to connect personally with these speakers in Zoom breakout rooms and at the same time met other students from different schools. Students also had the opportunity to express their gratitude to a friend by writing a short note in the Love Box via a Google Form, and throughout the event, notes from this Love Box were readout. For me, it was so inspiring to hear these notes and I also learned so much from all of the alumni’s experiences! I am so grateful to be a part of this wonderful Key Club family and thought that this was overall an amazing event. I really enjoyed the warm and friendly Thanksgiving atmosphere that we were still able to create even though we were meeting virtually! Alice Finkelstein Carlmont
The November DCM was probably my favorite event this year, even though I was proctoring it and not necessarily following the same path as the alums in my breakout room, their advice was really motivating and uplifting! I feel like a lot of seniors benefited from attending the DCM and with the fun events afterwards, it was enjoyable overall. I could definitely see Keysgiving as an event that we could continue given it was really helpful and nice to meet all the alumni. May Cho Westmoor
The November DCM was full of friendship and warm feelings all around. At the very start of the meeting, members were greeted by the familiar faces of past Key Clubbers! Introductions were made from each alumni, with witty responses and heart-warming stories of their days in Key Club past. After awhile, we went into breakout rooms, played a few icebreaker games, chatted about the upcoming holidays, and returned to the main room. We soon had a raffle where two people were randomly chosen by a wheel, as long as they donated at least $3, to win a $10 gift card to Amazon, Target, or Starbucks! Throughout the meeting, entries were made to a google form dubbed the “love box”. Notes, both anonymously and proudly addressed, were read aloud to the meeting sporadically in order to break up chucks of time. Notes were comprised of various uplifting messages filled to the brim with encouragement and appreciation! To end the meeting, a Q&A was held with the alumni about their lives, Key Club, anything really. Overall, the event was a great way for relatively new members like myself to get to know both current members and past members that we’ve heard so much about! Katelynn Hollandsworth Aragon

Fun Fact: a fun fact about me is that i have traveled to 5 out of the 7 continents.
Responsibilities: As an executive assistant i help our ltg kristen
communicate with the individual clubs in the division, with things like reminders about events or upcoming deadlines. each ea also oversees a different committee on the dlt and helps them organize events and is there as an extra hand whenever needed.
Favorite part: my favorite part about being an ea is that i get to interact with the other clubs in our division and get to know them a lot better, and through that we can form friendships! i also like the family that comes from being apart of dlt, and i’ve been able to meet so many new and amazing people through it!!

Fun Fact:
Fun fact is a love board games and I have a whole collection of them.
Responsibilites: My main responsibilities is to track of every
event and activities that happen on club and division levels. I take attendance at all division events and take notes at DCM. I manage the club performance form and when forms each as the MRF and articles and visuals are turn in. This is all done by updating the banana points constantly, so I don’t fall behind on what clubs are doing. I have monthly tasks as well such as turning in articles and visuals to the district. Also I’m always here to help any Secretary with their MRF and other tasks, and I try to send feedback every month. And Im here when the LTG asks, from help creating manuals to hosting divisions events like the workshops. I try my best to keep organized and updated to serve this amazing division!
Favorite Part:
My favorite part of being division secretary is answering any questions the club secretaries have or assisting them in anyway. I understand their struggles as I was in their position before as well, and I love interacting and helping them in anyway I can! Each one of them are hard workers and it reflects in the work they do

Joanne (Lincoln):
She only joined this year, but has been extremely active throughout this term! Catrin attends most events and has even become an intern to become more involved. She actively participates by trying to get to know others and by also not being afraid to ask questions.
Joanne is the co-president of Lincoln and has done a lot of work to get Lincoln’s club chartered. She’s constantly asking questions about Key Club and asking for advice to make Lincoln a great club. She puts in a lot of effort and we can’t wait to see her more in the division.

Sheila has been a great advisor as she’s always looking to help our club. She is super easy to communicate with and we can sense the positive vibes from her emails! She has also done a great job with helping Lincoln HS get chartered :D
This month’s club of the month is Westmoor! They are definitely one of our most consistent clubs who constantly has active officers and members. They recently hosted our joint service project with 34 South, where we created cards for our Kiwanians! Overall they are a super strong club and we’re so grateful to have them in our division.

Club Summary Aragon:
For the month of December, Aragon attended the D34 Holiday-a-Thon. It was a lot of fun to be able to see everyone. We had our last meeting of December on Friday the 4th to allow for our members to study for finals. A few of our members also attended CTC which was informative about the LTG position. We plan on attending the other events planned for December. We are currently planning a boba fundraiser alongside the Service & Fundraising Committee for January.
Carlmont:
- Anna Abelgas
Over the past month we’ve been doing bimonthly club meetings and on-going at home service events. We partnered with the San Carlos Adult Community center to host reassurance calls for members to talk to senior citizens. Our other ongoing events included charity miles, free rice, and trick or treat with unicef. We’re continuing our PTP fundraiser exchanging PTP bracelets for donations and we’ve had a blast attending all our division events as well. And we can’t wait for all of the upcoming events next month! :))
El Camino:
- Ashley Zheng
During the month of November, our club hit a lot of achievements. First off, we surpassed 100 total service hours as a club. The members have really been putting in the work. We also hosted our first division-wide service event, Cranes for World Peace. During this, we made origami cranes for the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. Additionally, our club has been climbing its way up the banana points leaderboard. Overall, our club is very healthy and still
Hillsdale:
- Alex Quemuel
This past month Hillsdale has continued to hold our weekly club meetings. We had members attending the November alumni DCM, December DCM, as well as some division wide service projects. At our meetings we also promoted some new opportunities hosted by other Hillsdale clubs like signing up to be a peer tutor for underclassmen. We pushed the importance and benefits of dues and worked with our faculty advisor to collect and submit them, making sure we hit the on time deadline. As always, we’re continuing to search for more variety in our service opportunities and we’re excited to attend the upcoming holiday events!

- Gwendolyn Arzaga
Jefferson: November marked the first month Jefferson Key Club rotated to a biweekly meeting schedule. This also means that all our meetings will now have a 1.5hr service event proceeding it. As for our commitment to service, our club has continued participating and volunteering in our ongoing service events. Furthermore, despite having just one JHS food bank this month, we had the biggest member turnout (with 165hrs total from members and other Jefferson students). Our club has continued our consistency with another solid month of service. We will be finishing off our fundraiser this month, on top of preparing to host Division-wide and Interclubs events next month!
- Luis Solidum Lowell: During the month of November, Lowell attended division events such as Cranes for World Peace, Thank You Kiwanis, and Color Kindness. We had an interclub with South City, Westmoor, and El Camino called Words for Workers where we created ecards for different types of businesses. Aside from service, we also had members attend the MR Workshop where we were able to learn about the Member Recognition Program and Graphics in general. We had a few members attend the Keysgiving DCM where we got to see tons of old alumni which was also very fun and interesting. This upcoming month we plan on participating in the new division events and activities such as the gift exchange and productivity sessions. We are currently planning an interclub with Lincoln and a collaboration with other service clubs at Lowell.
- Jasmine Bao Lincoln My board and I recently have had our second meeting with our members! Shortly after that, we had a club visitation meeting with Kristen and Landon where she gave us a more detailed rundown of what each officer is responsible for and the basics of the club. Since then, we have started to develop slides for our third meeting and we are trying to constantly stay on top of everything (newsletters, new events, etc.) and trying to find fundraisers that we can build around to provide at our club. Adding on, we have just turned in our member roster form and we are planning to regroup after break and go on from there. We also have two interclubs, one led by Jefferson the other led by Lowell that are to be planned out later on as well. And lastly, there is a “club week at Lincoln which hosts events led by clubs who are willing to participate and my board and I have decided we wanted to sign up for that to promote our club.
- Joanne Yen 20
San Mateo: This month our club hosted the division wide service event Color Kindness Challenge where we made cards and letters of gratitude for frontline workers using crayons. These projects mostly went out to hospital workers in San Mateo. We had a lot of fun hosting this event and we hope everyone who showed up enjoyed it too! In addition, we hosted a card game fundraiser via discord where we raised $75 dollars for the Pediatric Trauma Program and had lots of fun. We also had a meals on wheels thanksgiving placemat making interclub with Aragon, Carlmont, and SI. We also continued our weekly meetings as well as attended other events such as El Camino’s Cranes for Peace and the Cards for Kiwanis.
-Danielle Richards
South San Francisco: For the past month, South City has been attending Division Events like Holiday-A-Thon, Candidate Training Conference, Cards and Scarves, and more! We also have participated in a Food Distribution hosted by the city of South San Francisco where we distributed food to families for the holidays! We have now pivoted to bi-weekly meetings to account for people’s schedules and busy-ness! On a weekly basis, we have been going to school (safely, of course) to do some campus gardening! For the month of January, we will be planning some fundraisers, planning for club elections, and begin planning for some Division-wide service projects! We are super excited to see what the new year will bring! We hope you guys have a great holiday season!
- Caroline Narcisco
Westmoor:
For the past month, we are looking to the future and our plans for the next term. We are honored to the received club of the month in December, and we hope to continue this track and push to become a better club. Since our board is all seniors, our priority is to seek potential new key leaders. That’s why we set up an internship program. It is set and already began, and these individuals demonstrated what it takes to be a leader and they can make Westmoor Key Club even better. And so we plan for elections and interviews in the following month as well. We hope to plan more interclub, so if anyone is interested feel free to contact me. New year, new opportunities and so we want to end this term strong and prepare the next generation with the foundation for success. I wish you all the best and a happy New Year everyone!
