Happy March! Can you believe the next issue released will be the last?? I sure can’t as it feels like just yesterday when the first issue was released. As we transition into this new term, I hope you all are so proud of everything we have accomplished! This year was an extremely special one, and hopefully we will get to see each other in person next term. DCON is also coming up, in a little over a month, so make sure to attend that! It is a great opportunity to experience and meet others from the district. Especially with it being virtual, I hope that you guys take advantage of not needing to commute!! With that being said, we do still have one month left of the term so make sure to make the most out of it!! We have a numerous amount of events planned this month and I highly recommend you all to attend as many as you can. Please remember to submit your articles and visuals and your club summaries on time for this last month! As usual, challenges are due on the last day of every month and I highly recommend that you all participate in that! Be on the lookout for an extra challenge :)) Feel free to contact me for anything and I am always able to chat. Okay, peace out for now and I hope you enjoy this issue of The

DNE Challenge: If you can know the absolute truth to one question, what question would it be?
Wow, this year has definitely flown by quickly. Can you guys believe it’s already almost the end of the term? It just feels like yesterday when we had our first few events online, and it’s crazy to see how far we’ve come as a Division. I’m so incredibly proud of every Key Clubber within our Division that has dedicated some part of their year to serving our community. Even though we all wish this year could have been in-person, I’m still incredibly grateful that I’ve been able to meet so many wonderful people that have made this year truly special. With all of that being said, we still have one month left of the term! Make sure to end strong by continuing to attend our upcoming service events and socials that we have planned! Feel free to even invite your friends that may be interested, as it’s never too late to join Key Club, and we would love to welcome them into our community. Lastly, for all of the Seniors within the Division, I want to say to take advantage of all of the final opportunities we’ll be offered in Key Club, because once we graduate, our Key Club journeys will officially be over. Take in every last moment and make sure to spend extra time with your home club, as we will be passing the torches after the last day of DCON, April 11th. With that being said, I look forward to seeing you all online soon! <3

Division Secretary
Hey Aqua Apes! The first 2 months of 2021 has been completed, congratulations you made it though! Thank you so much for attending our past events. I hope you enjoyed the service week and got more boba from our past fundraiser. There is still so many more opportunities and events to come, I hope you see there. Also, good luck to all the distinguished applicants, you got this!! It’s amazing to see all the new elects and upcoming officer team, it’s so exciting :) If you need help with Secretary Training I’m always free. I can’t believe next month is DCON and our term would be over, however, Courtney and the rest of you guys I know would accomplish ape-tastic things and bring the division to new heights. Remember you can reach out to me about literally anything, I can’t wait to end this term off strong!

Hopefully you took some time during the past three day weekends for yourself and enjoyed the (sometimes) sunny weather we had! This term has gone by so fast and I can’t believe DCON is already approaching! I highly encourage every single one of you to go, as it’s a great opportunity to meet people from all over the district and get another big event under your belt! It’ll be an amazing experience and I’m excited to see you all there. As for the division level, thank you once again for coming to events and participating in fundraisers, your involvement doesn’t go unnoticed and I appreciate you so so so much <3 And congratulations to all the new officer elects! I’m so excited to get to know and work with you all in the coming term, you’ve all worked so hard to get where you are, never doubt yourself on that. I’m always here

Hey Key Clubbers!
Executive Assistant
This past month was quite eventful for our clubs. The election season has now passed as we are getting ready for the new term! This time last year I was headed to our end of the term banquet which became the event that leads to me really falling down the key club hole and now that the new term is starting soon I can’t wait to see our division grow with new leadership and new members! One thing I’m really happy about from this past month and a couple of months before is watching our division adapt in a way that allows us t host fundraisers and I’m certain that we can continue to raise for our fundraiser goals this month! As always if you have any questions are just wanna talk feel free to contact me <3 I hope you have an amazing day and keep shining!

How’s the term already coming to an end? I hope you guys submitted your e-portfolios to get recognized for your dedicated service! We are so close to our service hours goal so keep on pushing through so we can reach it by the end of the term. I loved seeing you guys at service events like the Cards and Stories and the Hearts for NICU Babies. I also hope you guys enjoyed the FriDate with D34N and had lots of fun socializing with those in the division. Congratulations to all the new board members that were elected for the new term! Everyone has worked so hard and I could not be any prouder of you guys for the service you’ve given. Again, keep on recruiting members and I hope you’re excited for DCON! As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

CARDS 4 COVID HEROES
5
At the Cards 4 Covid Heroes event, we wrote virtual notes for patients or healthcare workers. I chose to write mine to the workers because I am very grateful for their bravery and work. I was happy to be able to express my thankfulness and gratitude to these people since a lot of times they need mental support. It was very special to be able to see the pictures of how happy the notes made the doctors and nurses at the event, especially because it is a lot more difficult to see the impact of volunteering nowadays. Overall I think this was a really unique event that I had a lot of fun being creative with! Britney Fong Carlmont The cards for covid heroes event hosted on 1/15 was a great experience. The instructions were delivered thoroughly, everything was clear and the music played was a great background while we made our cards. Adding on top of that, everyone typing in the chat was the sweetest. Personally I didn’t really talk but I enjoyed reading everything as soon as I was finished making my card. Overall, I loved it and made me want to join more events in the future. NinaQuezel Cacayorin Lowell Cards for COVID Heroes was an incredible event to write physical and virtual cards to send to clinics and hospitals all over California. The virtual cards were even sent with a small gift card! I loved being able to help healthcare workers in any way I could. This event was very dear to my heart as many of my family members are in the healthcare field. I love our card making events as it’s so relaxing to listen to music and write. Beth Yeung Aragon For Cards 4 Covid Heroes, we were met with a public ice breaker in the chat. Being a controversial topic between frozen yogurt and ice cream, the whole group was split between both. It was entertaining to see everyone justify their decision, not swaying my set mind on ice cream ;) Moving onto the service portion of the event, the organization focuses on essential workers, primarily hospital employees especially given the ongoing circumstances. We were given the option to make digital notes via Canva or a Google Form, or make physical cards to mail out. I made some physical cards and a few using Google Forms, while listening to the division’s collab playlist. It was a very calming event to work alongside music while commenting every so often about the constant One Direction songs! I enjoyed taking the time to appreciate the vital members of our community as we continue to get through the pandemic together, staying strong and safe. Marcela Zaragoza Padilla Aragon Creating thankful cards for hardworking frontline employees was extremely fun and rewarding. I’ve always had a lot of respect for healthcare workers even before the pandemic. This event allowed me to communicate a fraction of my appreciation. The feeling that I would put a smile on a medical worker’s face after a long hard day at their job was extremely satisfying and warmed my heart. I am very thankful that I got to participate in such a fun event decorating and writing cards for healthcare workers, and hope I can do it again one day. Joyce Chu Carlmont

The Reading Partners Bookmark service event entails making bookmarks that are to be donated to a nonprofit organization called Reading Partners. Reading Partners’ goal is to promote literacy among youth by providing books and bookmarks to children. Each participant was tasked with decorating and writing inspiring quotes on strips of cardstock to make bookmarks. Making these bookmarks were a lot of fun because it allowed me to express my creativity. The atmosphere of the zoom was also very welcoming and inclusive because everyone who attended the event was friendly. I loved this event because it allowed me to give back to my community while having fun at the same time. Kaitlyn Kwan Carlmont The reading partners bookmark event was part of the weekend of service that was hosted by the service/fundraising committee. I could really tell that they put in a lot of effort into these events, especially this one. The event consisted of making bookmarks to promote reading for elementary students. the actual event was really chill and the slides looked Alekz Alberto Lowell

The Reading Partners Bookmark event was a super fun online event. We started with icebreakers, where we took a few minutes sharing our opinions on different topics to get to know one another. After, members were informed about the Reading Partners organization and their importance. We then went on to making our bookmarks while talking and listening to music. I found it inspiring how their nonprofit programs make books available to students, in addition to our handmade bookmarks. This encourages children to improve their literacy skills. I am so glad I attended this event because I enjoyed being creative while also bringing positivity to many others! Bailey Wong Aragon Leading the Origami Bookmarks event was a really fun and nice break from card making! Even though I forgot how to make an origami bookmark from the last time we had the event, they were so easy to relearn and make again! Personally, I’m not that good at origami, but found it fun to make “animal origami bookmarks” by cutting various papers into different shapes. It was a great opportunity to support academic, social, and emotional growth of underprivileged students. Thank you to everyone who participated and I hope you all had a great time! Schools on Wheels Origami I had a wonderful time at the Origami Bookmarks event! First, we were arranged in breakout rooms and I was able to talk with a few other key club members from other schools. Then, we watched a video tutorial on how to make the bookmarks before starting to create them on our own. After that, we had some time to listen to the music being played and to make our origami bookmarks. This was a really easy, fun, and simple project that allowed lots of creativity and I made 8 animal themed bookmarks. We took a picture and packaged the bookmarks to be mailed to Schools on Wheels of Massachusetts. I hope that the schools enjoy the bookmarks we made and I’m really glad I was able to attend this well-planned event! Hunter Kwan Aragon The School On Wheels Origami event was super fun, a virtual opportunity I got to partake in. Not only did I get to know Key Club members from other high schools, but I also learned more about an activity I hadn’t really done before. I enjoyed watching Youtube tutorials on how to make origami bookmarks, and it was really cool to see how many designs you can make with a simple square piece of paper. My favorite part was when we got to see each others’ bookmarks at the end – it gave me ideas for the future, in case I want to make bookmarks of my own. This event was especially meaningful because I love to read and I want to make the reading experience fun and enjoyable for others too. Lauren Krueger Carlmont
At the School on Wheels Origami Event, we came together during the Service Weekend and folded origami bookmarks for kids. Having done this activity before, I felt both like a veteran and a newbie when trying out new designs. It was really cool seeing what everyone managed to create and I personally folded a really swag flower bookmark! It felt great having a brain break from homework to attend this event and spend time with the division.

School On Wheels Origami was a virtual event, where key clubbers from our division created origami bookmarks for the School on Wheels organization. Designs ranged from a simple square to more intricate designs such as flowers, butterflies, and animals. Personally, after making the most basic design, I made a koala, flower, and leaves. I had so much fun making them. Although it was difficult to get a hold of at first, creating the bookmarks managed to get easier with time. The hosts of the event were very friendly, providing the different options beyond the basic design and encouraging asking for help. Guillermo Mendoza Carlmont

Members of Division 34 North attended Conclave 2021: The Coronation of Region 17 on Saturday, January 23rd. All 6 divisions of the region were present at this event which was split into two rounds to vote for a new LTG and hold a Division Council Meeting. As a member of Aragon Key Club, I previewed the members running for the position on the candidate booklet, listened to their respective speeches, asked them questions in the caucus session, and discussed with our delegates to vote. Then, the Key Club International President, Alex Drahos, gave us all a very inspirational speech before the 2021-22 LTGs were announced. Congratulations to Courtney, our next LTG!! She’s the best president, partner, and friend I could ever ask for and I know she’ll be amazing as D34N’s LTG! Evan Yang Aragon At Conclave this year the division got to see all of our possible future lieutenant governors and decided who it would be. The speeches and articles were fantastic among all of the candidates and through the caucus, we learned more about the candidates’ goals and strengths, as well as their weaknesses. In the end, Courtney Tai was elected to be the lieutenant governor of D34N for the 2021-2022 term. I couldn’t be more excited to see what amazing things she will do as our ltg next year and I know she will do an amazing job! John Hillyard Aragon
I attended the conclave and voted as a delegate. That is a wonderful experience and it’s great to hear not just how the elected LTG plans on focusing on our division next year, but also how the other candidates who strive to connect key clubs to the community by planning on different events. During the DCM, I learned a lot more about key club and was able to recognize other members from other divisions and schools. It impressed me that we’ve reached a high number of community services although we still haven’t achieved the level that we wished. However, I believe that we will increase membership and work as a family together! Nicole Tsang Westmoor It was my first and last conclave, which was very disappointing that I didn’t go last year in real life, but I’m happy to attend and see all the amazing candidates for the 2021-2022 term. I’m super happy to say congratulations to Courtney Tai on becoming LTG elect. I know she’ll be amazing and I can’t wait to hear about everything she does for the division. It was amazing to see as well the other Region 17 LTG elects. It’s spectacular to see the passion for the key club amongst all these wonderful candidates. I’m excited for the new term and all the fantastic things the division and region would do, however conclave was a reminder of how fast time was passing. I can’t believe we are 2 months away from the end of my term, however conclave did bring new excitement of what’s to come. Anni Zhang Westmoor

Club Summary Aragon:
For the month of February, Aragon Key Club has mainly focused our attention on Elections and we hope to have our results out by the beginning of March. District Governor Daniel Min came to our general meeting as a special guest and talked to our members about leadership roles that are on district and international level. We attended the February DCM/ LTG baby shower which was a lot of fun. Our officers and members have been attending the division service events and we also plan to attend the FriDATE event. But overall we have been focusing our attention on the Elections.
El Camino:
- Anna Abelgas
During January, El Camino came back from Winter Break pushing out many club activities. The major event that happened was the election of the 2021-2022 officer board on February 10. El Camino also attended all the division-wide service projects and had some service projects of our own, such as UCSF care packages. In February and March, we’re going to start training newly elected officers and planning for the next Key Club term. At the same time, we’re going to continue rolling out service opportunities for the members.
Hillsdale:
- Alex Quemuel
Over this past month, Hillsdale participated in events such as conclave, crafting into 2021, and weekend of service. We successfully hosted our own division wide service event where we made cards and read stories for children’s hospitals. Additionally, we have started our club officer election process and have been encouraging members to run. We are also preparing for our school’s spring club fair day in hopes of gaining people’s interest and more members.
Lowell:
- Emilia Schalch
During the month of January, Lowell released our very first apparel fundraiser, discussed information on club elections, and participated in division-wide events such as Conclave and the Service Weekend. Towards the beginning of the month we had officers work on planning for our bucket hat fundraiser and we released our pre-order form in mid-January. We accepted donations in exchange for a super cute D34N bucket hat with our very own ape design and keychains from last term. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the Pediatric Trauma Program! At our general meetings for the month, we promoted Service Weekend which many of our members attended and Conclave where we had two candidates running from Lowell. Moving forward, we will be hosting our club elections this month and are currently working on promotion of our apparel fundraiser outside of the division now that pre-orders have ended. We will be accepting normal orders for anyone who hasn’t had a chance to get anything.
Lincoln: 13
- Jasmine Bao
I would consider this Lincoln’s downtime from event and fundraiser planning since we will have to focus our time on holding elections soon. Time flies! Subsequently, we will be co-hosting a Sock Puppet interclub with Aragon, NDB, and Sequoia - so excited for that:) As you can tell, this month was not as eventful as the other months, so we took this time to bond with our members because without them, we would never have been Club of the Month. We held online games during our bi-weekly meetings such as Skribblo, Fishbowl, and Chaos counting! March is arriving, marking our 6 month anniversary of being chartered. To honor that, we want to step up and take on our full potential as a club a part of the amazing aqua apes of D34N!
- Joanne Yen
Notre Dame:
In January, we continued our regular schedule of bi-weekly meetings on Wednesdays. As usual, these meetings also had service projects incorporated! This month, we did Color a Smile and Virtual Notes for UCSF. We also participated in Division events, such as the January DCM, and Division Wide Service projects, including Weekend of Service; we had our greatest club attendance of the term during that service opportunity! NDB Key Club also participated in the boba fundraisers for PTP and Region 17 Conclave. We are working to increase our number of Dues paid members and preparing for elections which will take place on February 24. We are excited to elect our new board and continue participating in service projects!
San Mateo:
- Alyssa Enriquez
This month our club held weekly meetings for the last three weeks of January because of Winter Break. We had members attend various service events such as service events during the MLK Jr Weekend of Service, Crafting into 2021, and Hillsdale’s CMN Cards and Story Time. We also had two officers attend and vote for the next LTG at the Conclave. Our officer board has been working on a plan for elections for next year’s officers and we hope to hold elections sometime in February. We’ve been making slides about the officers’ positions and sending out forms regarding who wants to run for officer positions. We also gained a few new members after winter break.
Sequoia:
-Danielle Richards
For the month of January, Sequoia’s Key Club launched the year of 2021 by attending the Weekend of Service, where we attended events such as Cards 4 Covid Heroes, Cranes for Cancer, Color A Smile, and others where we had fun! As we returned from winter break, we had our first 2021 back-to-school meeting! We had a recap of what has been happening as well as possible opportunities coming up. Our club also attended Conclave and the January DCM, where we had an update of what’s been happening. Sequoia’s Key Club also had the chance to participate in the Magical Bridge Park clean up. We pulled out weeds in order to keep the new park clean. We have been reaching to organizations to see what other activities we can do:))!
- Sharon Portillo
South San Francisco:
For the month of February, South City has had a Krispy Kreme fundraiser where half of the proceeds will be going to PTP! We also attended all of the Division events, such as CMN Cards and Stories, February DCM, Hearts for NICU Babies, Swimming for Service, and the Fri-DATE with D34N events. We also had a park cleanup collaboration with our school’s Earth Club and El Camino Key Club! We have been continuing to go to school safely to participate in maintaining our school’s plants! For the month of March, we are planning to continue with our usual service projects like Campus Gardening, FreeRice, Beanbeanbean, etc., as well as plan other club and Division level service projects! We are also in the process of collecting more dues and planning even more for the future :D
Westmoor:
- Caroline Narcisco
For the past month, we were planning and preparing for the next term with our newly elected board. We are super excited to introduce our new elect board. Congratulations Isabella, Darren, Nicole, Timothy, and Jason, I believe you guys would take Westmoor to new heights and I’m so proud :) We have been doing new officer training and just going into details about our roles and what it takes to be a key leader. We also have a fundraiser in mind for this month and differently before the end of this term. We hope to plan more interclub, so if anyone is interested feel free to contact me. Also, we had our second annual valentine’s day social, last year we watched a movie hosted after school with our members, however this year we made origami hearts. It’s looking to be an exciting and saddening end of the term, and we hope to end this better in the best way possible and make the most out of these last 2 months.
- Anni Zhang

a m a z i n g a p e s AMAZING APES Member of the Month :
Catrin (Lowell): Catrin is an intern for Lowell Key Club and she’s shown that she’s dedicated to Key Club and really wants to be involved. She participates during board discussion, helps make our general meeting slides, presents at meetings, and so much more. She’s even brought friends to meetings! Catrin is a super awesome member and I can’t wait to see how she grows and takes on more leadership positions in the future.
Officer of the Month :
Casey(South San Francisco): In the past month, she has been managing our Krispy Kreme Fundraiser and she has been able to pick up even more dues through safe pickup! She has been in close communication with her other officers and advisors to ensure that all of the processes smoothly! Honestly, in the position of Treasurer, there have been some times where she would have to teach herself and learn on her own and she has been so good at that! Very proud of her and I hope she carries on her responsibilities for next term as well.
Advisor of the Month :
Mr. Colglazier (Aragon):
Mr. colglazier has been our advisor for many years, even when advisors were only allowed to oversee one club due to the pandemic, he’s stuck with us. he not only respects us as a club and commends us for our initiative, but also willingly supports us with whatever we need. undoubtedly, he’s been a great advisor over the years and we love to have him at our general meetings
Club of the Month :
Hillsdale:

This month hillsdale has really stepped up as a club and we were able to see this through the division wide service project they hosted last week. they did a great job hosting and it was a great event!
