Hello Aqua Apes! Can you believe it? This is the last issue for the 2013-2014 term! I am so amazed at what we have accomplished during this term. It's truly breathtaking and inspirational. It's been such an honor to serve for such a wonderful division and I can't wait to see what Mary Kim has in store for our division next term. I highly encourage all returning aqua apes to start getting pumped for next term so we could go far beyond our expectations. Just because it's the end of the term doesn't mean our service should. Over the summer and beginning of spring, I hope you all are still lending a helping hand to your community. Thank you for reading and for the last time, hope you enjoy this month's Ape Chronicles. -Kayla Larot, dne

Aloha Aqua Apes! I can’t believe this will be the last Lieutenant Governor Greeting! It has been such an honor serving with all you. Whether I met you at a DCM, a training conference, or one of the division projects, I’m glad I got to work with so many old faces and plenty of new ones too. This Division truly showed tremendous growth over the course of the term, and I commend all the officers, all the members, and all the advisors for the phenomenal work accomplished! We fundraised more, served more, and gained more members, and I couldn’t be any prouder. I would like to thank everyone for everything and all the opportunities given to me this year. I started off a little shaky, and I was very inexperienced coming into this position, but thanks to all of your support and inspiration, I truly pushed myself as a service leader. I hope I inspired all of you to want to serve your home, schools and communities more. I know my time is running out but know that whether I am serving as your Lieutenant Governor, I am always here for each and every one of you. Feel free to add me on Facebook, send a text, or shoot me an email at any time. I have put my personal contact information in the greeting for all of you. As much as it saddens me to see this term come to a close, I would like to thank all of you for such an amazing year of service, filled with wonderful memories and APEtastic moments. These past thirteen months, serving as your Lieutenant Governor has been nothing short of sublime, and I can’t believe it is coming to an end. This isn’t my goodbye, but my aloha for now. What was initially supposed to be a fun celebration soon became an emotion filled ceremony. It was both sad and inspiring to see officers’ undying commitment thoughout this term. Although there have been ups and downs with the organization of events, this one definitely ran incredibly smoothly. Not to say that free food isn't great, because yes it is very great. However, this "Fiesta" was much more than that, it was the end and start of an amazing term. The banquet overall was fun while still reminding you what it truly means to be a part of a key club family. - Kenny, SSFKC

During the last part of the Banquet, Jeremy reflected on his own personal growth and achievements throughout his term. I have to admit, it was absolutely phenomenal. Jeremy told his story with a tense mood prevailing the audience; and the story was more than just inspiring, it was both astounding and sensational. Jeremy started off his term as LTG with only 5 months of experience in Key Club. Although a relatively inexperienced member and LTG, Jeremy still proved his dedication and hard work as he sought help from others, and decided to continue his term. Even though Jeremy encountered many hardships throughout his term that almost pushed him to the brink of the collapse, he still made it through. He fought his way through his personal battle and continued to strive for improvement. All in all, Jeremy exemplifies a true leader that has laid the foundation for the future of Division 34 North. His courage, commitment, and determination will set off many others in the same path that as him. Words cannot describe how thankful and appreciative I am for what Jeremy has done for me in the past year. I started off as a “newbie” secretary, but Jeremy reached out to me and assisted me on a personal level to assure that I was on the right track. Later, as I attended more DCMs, I was truly inspired to become a great speaker like him. Gradually, I overcame my fear of public speaking, but I still have a lot to work on. If it weren’t for Jeremy, I would never become such an outgoing person and I would never have gained confidence in my public speaking skills. Jeremy has played a huge role in my personal growth and development, and I will continue to work hard to achieve greater self-improvement. -David Lien, Mills

G T L r u o e v o l Remembering back to 2013’s Conclave, I remember the nervousness in Jeremy’s expression and mine as we both stood outside waiting to give our speech. I remember my friend who was there tell me if I didn’t win, we came for nothing. Looking back, I don’t regret losing to Jeremy. I went to Conclave not for nothing like my friend said but to be the first to see Jeremy begin his life changing experience. For Jeremy to have chartered many schools his term while surpassing many of the past LTGs goals combined is what makes me happy I didn’t win because I would have not been able to do the same. Although my interaction with Jeremy or Key Club wasn’t much this year, I am glad to have been a part of it. Thank you for continuing to build a strong division that I worked hard for my sophomore and junior year. To Mary Kim, I wish you good luck, as I know you will have a very wise and spirited mentor who will train and lead you through your term.

The 2013-2014 Key Club term was one of the best terms I've experienced. I made so many new friendships and experienced Key Club on a higher level. I will never forget the Key Clubbers I truly bonded with this year. I didn't realize how fast this term went until the D34N banquet. Jeremy made this term the best term so far. He was not just an LTG, but a friend to everyone. He achieved so many goals and I think we can all say that we are all extremely proud of him. It is definitely hard to let go of Jeremy as LTG, but I know our division is in the good hands of Mary Kim. This term was inspiring and I cannot wait to see what the next term brings! -Iris Hung, Mills

On the morning of the D34N banquet, our division had a service project at the Color Run. We did various jobs like blow confetti, hand out color, and give water to the runners. It was a really fun event and after all the runners finished, we all got to party at the Color Run festival. We also got packets of color to throw at each other, which was one of the best parts of the event. Overall this service project was a complete success and everyone who showed up had a good time. However, washing all the color off before the banquet was quite a problem, but it was worth the trouble because it was a fun experience to have. In the future, I hope to coordinate another service project with the Color Run in my next term.

club UPDATES This month George Washington Key Club has been working with our school. Every week we help out at our school’s lacrosse games and other home games. We have been assisting in setting up and cleaning up our stadium. We get to help the school and cheer on our team! We have also been continuing with our volunteering at the library as well as tutoring underclassmen. Some of our members have been making trips to help clean up in Golden Gate Park. This benefits our local community since it’s so close to our school and its right in our neighborhood.

the month of February, South San Francisco has been focusing on fundraisers, service projects and DCON registration. We have been trying to get back on track with our on-going service project, Adopting Westborough Park. We are having our Key Club Movie Night and Open Mic soon where we hope to raise at least $200 to support the members attending DCON 2014. DCON was a bit discouraging this year with the registration fee of $178-$218, but we managed to get 9 members to attend. We attended the Division 34 North Banquet, where we were awarded numerous titles for all our hard work and dedication this term. We are sponsoring an event called “Signing Time! Concert” which has become not only our sponsoring Kiwanis Club’s Kiwanis One Day event but also a Division Project. SSFHS has truly reached new heights, and we hope to go further beyond!

On March 1, 2014 the Mills Club and I tried something for the first time. At nine in the morning, 18 members of our Key Club gathered at our president, Rachel Wong’s home. We began making and packaging lunches which we would later present to the homeless of San Francisco. Each lunch consisted of one peanut-butter and jelly sandwich, two chocolate chip cookies and a banana. Then, after packaging each lunch we rode the bus to the Powell BART station. From there, the remaining 15 students plus our two amazing advisors Martin Mansmann and Ms. Dove passed our lunches. The homeless were extremely gracious to us. Their responses ranged from a grateful nod of the head to a big smile and a word of thanks. One man told us that he would go spend his lunch money on tickets for the movie “Mr. Peabody and Sherman” which he had been very excited to see. After the community service, we ate lunch at Westfield mall. All in all it was a good day with an exciting and heartwarming experience for our club. -Ryan Koel, Mills
