Lieutenant Governor’s Message
Aloha Aqua Apes! Here we are, twelve months after we started this term with a SMILE. Are you all still smiling? Have you smiled throughout the term? Have you done a lot of service, met new people, and made new memories? Since this is my final message to you all ever through the division newsletter, I want to thank everyone who followed me throughout the term. If you’re reading this (even if it’s years later), email/text/message me “go bananas” to receive a prize. Thank you to everyone who came out to the Lieutenant Governor’s banquet last month. I hope you all enjoyed the delicious food, amazing people, and inspiring recognitions. As we head off to District Convention, I implore you to keep in mind all the memories you’ve made this past term and all the amazing accomplishments we’ve reached together. Convention is truly a magical time, where we transition from celebrating the service done in the past term to looking forward to doing even more the next. I hope all of you who are attending enjoy your time in Anaheim. What are my final remarks to all of you as I take my leave and retire as Lieutenant Governor? This whole experience has been an incredible honor for me - thank you all so much for allowing me to serve you as Division 34 North’s Lieutenant Governor. My four years in Key Club have truly been an amazing time in my life. I want to remind everyone to always be open to have a good experience and to never be discouraged from taking a risk. If you don’t take risks, then you will never have new opportunities. Every decision you make is one between to go out of your comfort zone or to stay secure within it. Take the leap. Once again, thank you to everyone who has supported me, inspired me, listened to me, talked to me these past four years. Serving the amazing Aqua Apes of Division 34 North has left an immense impact on me. Thank you all. SMILE with me, Kelvin Yang Division 34 North Lieutenant Governor (one last time)

Club Summaries This past month Carlmont Key Club held its elections and we are pleased to say that the newly elected board members are more than capable of leading the club. Unfortunately, we have had very little service opportunities, but we are looking for more! The outgoing officers and new officers also had a board meeting and worked on a scrapbook for the club to submit at District Convention. We also have a total of 14 members attending District Convention this year which is the most attendees Carlmont has had in a very long time. We look forward to District Convention and the Division Banquet! Thank you for a great term!

Club Summaries In March, we had our elections. We had 2 elections because some people got no confidence and also there was one position opened. We are planning to help them start their term and also fundraisers for DCON. We also had some people attend Mr. Key Club. The next event coming up is the pizza run which is hosted by Lowell High School.

For the past few weeks, Westmoor Key Club has experienced a lack of participation in volunteering events, and the attendance to our meetings has dropped. On a more positive note, during the week of February 20-24, we had several volunteering events. Despite the cancellation of the Glide for Soup Kitchen event, we had a volunteering event at the SF-Marin Food Bank on February 21st. We also have more events coming in for the month of March including a volunteering event at Civic Center which is the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon where we will be helping at the finish line.

Club Summaries This past month El Camino High School Key Club finished up the STEM Ecosystem Project which we began in January. We also helped out South San Francisco Scavenger Co. clean the bayside trail, a place where many people from around our community take walks and enjoy the beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay. Lastly, we had a beach cleanup in attempts to restart what we did last year which was having a beach clean up every month for the Spring, Summer, and Fall months. We may have done it a month too early because it was still very windy and cold, but regardless we cleaned up the beach and had a fun time at Ocean Beach.

San Francisco Marin Food Bank
Lorna Louie West moor Key Club Public Relations Officer Recently, Westmoor Key Club participated in a volunteer event at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. This was definitely an eyeopening experience, as all the volunteers were able to see how much the community relies on food banks to survive. During the volunteer shift, our huge group of volunteers was split into groups of four in a room that packaged rice. Knowing that many families were waiting for this package of rice, we all poured our hearts and put 100% effort in trying to make the packaging look aesthetically pleasing, as well as have the exact weight. Our shift also included separating “bad apples with the edibles ones, which would be sent off to the community. All the volunteers had an amazing time, and they all left feeling satisfied and accomplished.

Srimaye Samudrala Aragon Key Club Member Every Saturday from February 11th, I volunteer from 12 pm - 3 pm at the Martin Luther Recreation center. I help out by keeping score of the basketball games and help to the needs of the children. I did not know too much about basketball, but I enjoyed watching and playing it. At the event, the volunteers taught me the procedure of how to keep track of the game. After getting the hang out it, it was a very fun task to do.

Carlmont School Force Fundraiser
Belinda Yu Carlmont Key Club Vice President Alongside three other Carlmont members, we helped set up the event by placing props, lighting candles, and successfully hanging the huge event banner using long pieces of ribbon, with the help of five people. During the beginning of the event, we checked in guests by asking for their bid numbers to provide them their free drink ticket and casino ticket. At the end of our service, we were rewarded with a delicious dinner buffet. I really enjoyed volunteering at this event as I was able to see the hotel employees and School-Force members assemble the major elements of the event. It was an entertaining night for everyone.

Chinatown 5K Run
Sarah Mo Zhen Lowell Key Club Member This year the Chinatown run a little bit different from last year. Last year, we handed out goody bags for runners and congratulated them. This year, we helped out behind the scene by moving supplies needed for the marathon. Although we did not interact with the runners this time, I thought it was fun how we were able to meet and get to know some of the Chinatown YMCA faculty members.

Volunteers from Lowell High School are taking a picture after volunteering at the Chinatown 5K Run
This was my first time volunteering at the Chinatown Run and it was one of the more enjoyable events because the other members and I had the chance to see lion dances and the start of the race. We also worked together on an assembly line to load cones onto trucks and the sidewalk. We were in charge of keeping cars from parking near the sidewalk of the race. In addition, we were provided bagels and other food by the YMCA staff. Even though this marathon event was different than the others we usually do, it was really fun.

Chinatown 5K Run
Kevin Deng Lowell Key Club Member My 3rd time volunteering at the Chinatown run was a fun as always. As usual, the YMCA was generous enough to offer coffee, cream cheese bagels, and orange juice. As for the volunteering, my group made sure to manage the parking spaces for cars and organizing cones while others cheered on and organized the actual run. It's was great to witness the run, the amazing dragon dances, and also obtain the nice goodie bags given to everyone. The Chinatown run is such a unique event and would recommend to anyone who would like to run or volunteer in it.

Chinatown Run was a fun event where people ran to celebrate the Chinese New Years. We saw a lion dance followed by traditional firecrackers. We first helped out with moving cones from the sidewalk to the trucks so that they could be used to create the course. The cones were really gross but it was fun because everyone carried it together in an assembly line. After that, we were in charge of making sure people didn't park in the no parking zone.

Mr. Key Club
Richard Tang Aragon Key Club Member Being a contestant in Mr. Key Club was something I never thought that I would do. Even though I am rarely nervous before presentations, my heart was certainly racing during the hours leading up to the show. However, once I met all my fellow performers backstage I instantly relaxed. That group was by far the most outgoing group of people I have met in my entire life; it felt like a little family back there. When I saw the crazy things they started doing on stage, I felt more comfortable just having fun out there. I can honestly say that that was the most fun I have had in a very long time performing. I may have embarrassed myself, as well as cost myself an award, with my talent act, but I was able to laugh at myself like most of the crowd did. I certainly look forward to doing this again in the future!

Kim Vo Aragon Key Club Secretary Last Saturday was the annual Mr. Key Club event! D34N and D34S came together to celebrate all the funds raised for PTP! Our division has raised a lot of money that will change a lot of people's lives. But the event was phenomenal as always! The contestants were hilarious, the crowd was amazing, and the talent performances were off the charts! The Magic Mike contestants were particularly very outgoing and a joy to be around this year, with all the comedic talents, spirit, and much more! As well as this, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to be one of the talent performances. This was my first time performing on stage and even in front of a big group. I couldn't give enough thanks to the people who cheered me on, even if I messed up! This year was just an all-around supportive, loving, and APE-tastic group of people. You all definitely made my last one, one for the books!

Term Reflections
Kim Vo Aragon Key Club Secretary There are way too many things to be said about this term, but I'll try to keep it short. I've had ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade anything for a thing. I have grown in so many ways, and I can't thank Key Club and D34N enough. Serving as Aragon's secretary and the division PTP/MNT task coordinator has been the greatest experience of my life so far. It may not sound like much to others, but to me, these positions will forever have a special place in my heart. And for future officers and members, make the most out of your term! It goes by in the blink of an eye, and you'll be a senior in your last year too. Use every advantage and opportunity Key Club provides for you because it won't always be there. I'm glad I've been an avid Key Clubber for the past 2 years. It is so sad to say goodbye soon, but I will use everything I have learned in the future. I want to thank everyone who has encouraged and pushed me to be my best. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This club will never be forgotten.

Term Reflections
Victorionna Tran
South SF Key Club President This term I served as South San Francisco Key Club President and as president I not only enjoyed being able to watch my club grow but I got to see each of our members grow individually. At the start of the term I was afraid that there wasn't going to be enough people who wanted to run for club office, but since we've had our club elections, I've had a sense of pride and relief. I was proud that the members had so much potential in them decided to run for an officer position and I was relieved to know that I was leaving the club in good hands. One of the goals of Key Club is to teach leadership through the service of others and that is one of the reasons for why it means so much to me. I have been in Key Club since my Freshmen year and as a Senior, who is about to graduate, I have to say that Key Club has given me an experience that is unforgettable and can't be found anywhere else.

Catherine Ke Lowell Key Club Member Executive Assistant Key Club this term was unforgettable and I am so grateful that I was able to experience it with everyone. It was an honor serving everyone as an executive assistant and especially our soon to be former LTG, Kelvin Yang . This term, I was able to connect more with the division and get involved with fun events like RTC and Mr Key Club that I never really thought about participating in before. I made crazy and fun new friends that I am grateful to have spent time with and get to know this year. Service became an even more important part of my life and this division taught me just how much fun it was to do it with people who loved it too. Leaving Key Club this year and realizing everything is coming to an end is sad but I know that D34N will be left in good hands with our new LTG Kayla Tai! I am excited to see how much more this division can accomplish and I never regretted a moment I had with you all. Thank you for the amazing memories and I will never forget what you have all taught me and how you all have helped me grow.

Executive Assistant ALOHA AQUA APES! My name is Angel and if you haven’t received a spam of emails or messages from me throughout the term, you’re in luck! Regardless of whether or not we have met by now, I want to thank YOU for being a part of this APE-tastic division! During these past couple of months, the growth, passion, and spirit of the few clubs I worked alongside with has been very inspiring! Despite starting out small, each dedicated officer and member remained active not only within their home club but also our division -from attendance at division events to raising funds for the Pediatric Trauma Program! As bittersweet as it is to think about the end of this term, I am so grateful have been given the chance to serve this division as an executive assistant. Thank you for a great term! I have confidence that each club will continue to push themselves to new heights -especially in the good the hands of Lieutenant Governor-elect Kayla.

Kayla Tai Aragon Key Club Member Division Newsletter Editor Aloha everyone! I want to let you all know that this term has been an APE-tastic one that I will never forget. I have enjoyed seeing this division grow over the past year and can’t wait to serve you all next term! Key Club has inspired me ever since I joined and I know that I will only learn to love it more and more these next few years. I hope that this year has been just as inspiring to all of you as it was for me, and I hope that you all continue to be amazing aqua apes throughout your lives. This division has turned into another ohana, as cheesy as it may sound, and it has helped through some tough times in my term. So just a little advice to everyone who’s reading this, don’t be afraid to reach out for help and suggest ideas. Questions are always appreciated and your fellow key clubbers will always be more than willing to help you with whatever you need. Thank you all for an awesome term and I can’t wait to continue this journey with you all next year!
