Happy April! Wow, I cannot believe that we have reached the end of this term. Despite the situation we were given, I would say we had a very successful term. I know you all have worked extremely hard and persevered through the Zoom fatigue, which wasn’t easy. Thank you all for such an unforgettable term and hopefully we will all meet in person next term :D Also, don’t forget to sign up and come to DCON! Usually, this would be an in person event that would entail the entire district coming together to celebrate the accomplishments of the term at a convention center. This year, due to the circumstances, it has been moved online. I highly encourage you all to attend as it is a great opportunity to experience a district event without having to deal with the traveling components. Also, Kristen is the chair of this year’s DCON team so we already know it is gonna be good! Before I finish my final message ever I would just like to encourage you all to apply for the DLT next term! Prior to this term, I barely had any experience in regards to Key Club and was barely involved. To put it into perspective, I didn’t even know what a DCM was. Through serving as Division 34 North’s DNE, I learned so much about the organization as well as leadership/organizational skills from Kristen and the rest of the DLT! Lastly, best of luck to everyone for the next term and beyond and don’t hesitate to reach out to me! Okay, peace out for now and I hope you all enjoy the last issue of the Banana Chronicles :))

Thanks,

Amber Chia

Aloha Aqua Apes!

Reaching for the stars of service,

Kristen Carpio

Lieutenant Governor

Just like that, we’ve reached the last newsletter of the term. It’s so crazy to me that this term has gone by in the blink of an eye. Somehow at the same time it feels like it was yesterday and years ago that we had our last in-person event (which was Banquet 2020 for a lot of us!). Regardless of how this year went, I’m so proud of each member and officer, first-year Key Clubber or fourth year. Each person contributed to their club and the Division in some way, and for that, I’m eternally grateful. I’d have to say that my favorite memory from this year isn’t a specific event, but simply all of the small moments we shared talking through Zoom chats. Even though many of us have never had an in-person conversation with another Key Clubber before, I’ve witnessed so many people bond over a variety of subjects in the chats of our meetings. Whether it was Taylor Swift or Driver’s License, the conversations we shared brought me so much comfort and joy when separated from all of you. Thank you. Lastly, we still have one final event of the term, which is District Convention 2021! This is the biggest event of the year, and I’m so excited for you all to see what myself and the rest of District Board has planned. We’re trying to mimic as much as an in-person experience as possible, so make sure to take advantage of all of the activities going on! If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for all the memories, Division 34 North. <3

Division Secretary

Ciao and Aloha Aqua Apes! It’s crazy the end is coming to an end so soon, we have experienced so much and it’s definitely has been the most unexpected, yet an amazing term in Key Club History. I’ll like to thank you all for making it such an ape-tastic term, and thank you all for all the amazing work and dedication you have put into our organization. It’s been an honor working with all of you, Kristen, the DLT, the Club Secretaries, members, advisors, and everyone. Each and every one of you has been an inspiration and I can’t express in words how thankful I’m to have cross paths with you. This is my last DSec message and I’ll like to leave you with a motto I personally live by, “The door you never open, can lead to opportunities you have been waiting for.” I say nothing in life is really handed to you, so take advantage of every opportunity you get, that’s what I did by joining key club 4 years ago, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. As the end of the 2020-2021 term approaches, it’s just the closing of this chapter, however, another amazing one has yet to be open. I say ciao and aloha because it’s not just hello, but goodbye ... for now.

I can’t believe it’s already the end of the term and I’m writing my last message as an EA to you all! Although bittersweet with many unexpected turns, this term was one for the books and I wouldn’t trade the people I’ve met and the person I’ve become for anything! It truly has been a memorable term and I’m so excited to see what the next one brings us. But, before we say any goodbyes, we still have our largest district event of the term coming up in April: District Convention! Registration is open NOW on the CNH Cyberkey so make sure to fill it out before the deadline, I’m excited to see you all there! It will be an incredible event with people from all over California, Nevada, and Hawaii, and our very own LTG is the chair! Finally, I want to say thank you so so so much to every member, officer, and advisor who made this term unforgettable and I hope it was just as amazing for you! Never hesitate to contact me for anything, I’m always open to talk and get to know the people in our division better.

This past term has been so amazing and despite being virtual our division has worked so hard to maintain our key club spirit! Swimming f Swimming for Service was a fun experience, especially when collaborating with members all over our District. I found it really interesting learning about the fun facts about each Division’s areas. I also enjoyed getting to know Key Club and our preferred charities as a whole during the “informational slides.” Because of the service project rotations, the event went by really fast. In addition, I enjoyed the ice breaker; it was a great form of friendly competition, but the instructions were super easy to follow too! Overall, Swimming for Service was a fun experience getting to know members outside of our Division! Crystal Chu Aragon

At Swimming for Service, we participated in three different service events: Origami bookmarks, K-family collages, and Paper Bridges. It was fun having a switch and variety in projects, and I enjoyed doing both physical and online activities. Not only did we perform a lot of service, it was also really nice getting to know everyone in our breakout rooms. I was able to learn about how the traditions and events of the different divisions, and the LTGs did an amazing job at leading each room.

Jasmine Bao Lowell

for service Swimming for Service was an interstate event with the divisions ranging from Hawai’i to the Bay area, and even Nevada! First and foremost, we began with our icebreaker in the public chat as the event included many participants. Then we moved onto introductions from the respective LTG’s of each division as well as the LTG elects! I personally enjoyed the fun facts of each region and how I didn’t know some of the ones in North Cali. Continuing with the event, we learned a bit about the Kiwanis Family House and played a quick background game before jumping into our round robins. We did 3 rotations with the same group for 3 different service projects. I had origami bookmarks first, and already having done some previously, I attempted to make the more advanced ones but ended up going back to decorating the simpler ones! After the first event, we wrote (or typed) personal letters to Paper Bridges to provide some support to orphans all over the world! Lastly, we drew a picture of one of the different preferred charities which would later be collaged. I made one for March of Dimes. For this final round robin, instead of the typical music, the hosts had us share out the food that would describe us best as we worked. Overall, it was incredible how well planned and executed the event was, I hope to see more interstate events in the future! Marcela Zaragoza Padilla Aragon The swimming for service event was such a fun experience. We got to meet so many new people from all over our district. I especially liked the theme of it and all the ltgs. The variety of events also made it very fun and was overall a great experience. It was enjoyable and I hope this will continue in the future Landon Lee Lowell Key Club

CMN Cards and Stori

At the CMN Cards and Story Time event, we started by choosing breakout rooms based on our music change of pace because I haven’t experienced it at an event prior. Before going into our breakout learn more about Children’s Miracle Network and their mission to enhance children’s lives through fin services left uncovered by insurance. During the event, we made and decorated cards to send joy a tals. Although I didn’t have any on hand, members also had the option to record themselves reading second half. If we do this event again, I hope I can try reading story books! Abigail Lee Lowell

At CMN Cards and Stories we created cards and stories for children in hospitals. In this event there w rooms you could go to during our work time, each having a different music genre. One of those brea and I got to be one of the people to lead a room. Along with my playlist, people could request their we all got to discover new music and enjoyed it together while creating cards and stories for childre fun and created a unique element to our online service projects! John Hillyard Aragon

During this division event, hosted by Hillsdale high school, we made cards for the Children’s Miracle N Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization that works to help children and their families get the right need. Additionally, we had the opportunity to record ourselves reading a story to be shown to the ch decorating cards and listening to music. The choice to create the storytelling recording was a very c tion, and I really appreciate that they made that option open to us. Lauren McCarthy Carlmont

FriDate E The FriDATE social and service event on February 26th was one of the first to be held later in the evening from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Although the event did last four hours, I enjoyed every minute of it and I think the DLT planned it well. The bonding event was filled with various activities such as a dares fundraiser, spelling bee contest (don’t ask me how I won), fast friends sessions, draw battles, and astrology readings from Lisa!! The service portion was spread out into three mini sessions where we worked on creating crossword puzzles, fill in the blanks, or word searches for waiting room goodie bags. All of them were nature themed and I thoroughly enjoyed coming up with words for my bird themed crossword and jungle themed word search. The FriDATE was definitely an event to remember, and I loved getting to socialize with new people in Key Club! Evan Yang Aragon

The Fri-DATE division social-service event was honestly one of the most fun Key Club events this year. For the service portion, we made various word puzzles for children in hospitals and made them into a beautiful booklet. Most of the event was a social event where I got to meet members from all across the division, play online team games, listen to astrology readings by our one-and-only Vice President Lisa Nguyen, and much more. I wholeheartedly urge any and all members to attend this event and any division social events in the future. These are what make Key Club unique and are essential to experience at least once. Hope to see you all at one soon! Zheng 9 Ashley Carlmont Key Club

Event Fri-Date was one of the most enjoyable events I’ve been to. There were multiple things to do during the event, such as service, talking to others, and games. For the service portion, we made a booklet similar to the Project Sunshine event hosted by Westmoor. We were also put into breakout rooms a few times to talk to each other, which helped me get to know some other people. Lastly, we played games that put us into teams, which made it fun and competitive. Overall, I really like the mixture of the different aspects Key Club can offer, like service and games. I would definitely want to join an event like this again! Darren Chen Westmoor

At our division FriDATE bonding and service event, I had a blast meeting and talking to Key Clubbers, watching the spelling bee, laughing at all the dares, listening to astrology readings, and making crossword puzzles for our service event. The FriDATE event was truly a great way to bond with other Key Clubbers as almost everyone had their cameras on and were super excited to meet other people. I had fun conversations with people I’ve never met before and it was so rewarding to feel that bond between Key Clubbers. Our service event was equally as fun as the bonding activities. We created crossword puzzles, word searches, and filled in the blank sheets online to create a booklet for children to play with while they waited at the hospital. It was awesome to see everyone’s puzzles and creativity we all put into making it. I hope in the future we can do more events like FriDATE to create stronger bonds between Key Clubbers in the division. Michelle Li Lowell

Member of the Month

Gaelle Djingueuzian (Aragon) Gaelle has been an extremely active and involved member since the beginning of the term. She always has timely responses when submitting her articles and visuals, and she has gone to a majority of the division events this term, not to mention telling our secretary immediately after that she attended and for how long. She also is extremely engaged in all our club meetings. Overall, Gaelle is a great member and her involvement is unwavering, demonstrating how she has gone above and beyond not just this month but the entire term as a member.

Officer of the Month

11

Andrew Ta (South City) Andrew is very dedicated to Key Club, and is an amazing leader. He constantly works his hardest to ensure that the club is running smoothly, and is an inspiration to new members!

Advisor of the Month

Teresa Yeager (Sequoia) Ms. Yeager has been a really great and involved faculty advisor for their club. I saw firsthand her amazing encouragement at their meetings, as well as her eagerness to help out the members. She offered her zoom for the recent DWSP Sequoia hosted and goes out of her way to find potential service opportunities for her club. Her drive to assist Key Clubbers in any way she can demonstrates how she goes above and beyond as an advisor!

Club of the Month

Notre Dame This month’s club of the month is Notre Dame! They recently held their officer elections for next term, and had a lot of people interested in running, especially underclassmen. They actively attend division events and host interclubs with other schools in the division. They have grown a lot over the term and we are excited to see where the new officer board leads the club to next year!

12

Club Summary

Aragon:

Last month Aragon Key Club finished elections and got our new officer board for the new term. This March we had an interclub service event with Carlmont and Lowell called Arts for Little Hearts. We also are trying to include more service and social events in our weekly meetings. To celebrate one year in quarantine and also introduce the officer elects we hosted our Coronaversary Instagram Takeover week. Everyday we would do an old trend from last year that happened during quarantine. As of right now we just plan to train our new board and get our incentives for our members ready by the end of term.

Carlmont:

- Anna Abelgas

Throughout the month of February, our club has participated in numerous division events as well as district wide service event! On a club level, we were able to elect our new 2021-22 board over the span of two days with over 18 candidates. We are super proud of everyone who ran & wish the best to our new officer elects. Beyond that, we collaborated with Carlmont’s One World Club on Valentine’s day to write letters to seniors. In the theme of Valentine’s day, we created Valentine’s Self Care Packages in exchange for donations towards PTP! We are excited for the last month of our term to be coming to an end soon & training our new officers!

El Camino:

- Lisa Ngyuen

In the month of February, El Camino did several service events. We did an interclub Park Cleanup with SSFHS at Westborough Park, Swimming For Service, Hearts for NICU Babies, and DIY Bears. There was also a productive board meeting during February where we introduced our new officer board and planned for the next Key Club term. In the coming month of March, we’re gonna have officer trainings for the secretary, vice-president, and PR/historian. All this is to make a smooth transition to the next term. Lastly, DCON is coming up in April, so we’ve had a DCON interest form for our club so we know who wants to go.

Hillsdale:

- Alex Quemuel

In the month of February, Hillsdale Key club held elections for the new term and elected a new officer board. We also had another club fair where we were able to recruit new members and encourage them to be dues paid. We also held our first official board meeting with the newly elected officer board as well as continued our weekly club meetings. Many of our members also attended the division-wide FriDATE event and did some cool dares and got to meet new people! Currently, we are trying to encourage active unpaid dues members to become official members of the club as well as starting to introduce new officers to their positions and duties.

-Camryn Low

Lincoln: This month has been productive for the board and I as we had to plan to finish up elections and *drum roll please... host our first division wide service project! We are so thankful having this chance to end this term with a bang and are excited to see the outcome of this event. It is our first major event so we hope we meet all the expectations, but more importantly, we hope to provide a fun experience despite being virtual. Looking forward to the new term and what is ahead of us!

- Joanne Yen Lowell:

During the month of February, Lowell attended many division events such as CMN Cards and Swimming in Service. We held an interclub with Westmoor called Soul Search where we watched the movie Soul, while generating searches with the browser Rapusia, which donates money to environmental projects of our choice. We also delivered the majority of bucket hat and key chain orders to members and Presidents at the end of the month. We held elections for most of our officer positions and I am very excited to see what they’ll do in this next term! In March, we have an upcoming interclub with Carlmont and Aragon called Art for Little Hearts where we will be creating bird-themed crafts for hospitalized patients. Along with that, we are planning to host a division-wide event with Saint Ignatius. At our next meeting, we will be having the rest of our elections and will be promoting virtual DCON and Mr. Key Club.

- Jasmine Bao

Notre Dame:

The last month has been quite eventful! We had our first round of elections on February 24th, and our second round on March 10. Our new Officer Board for the 2021-2022 term has been elected! Kristi, Brooke, Hannah, and Ariel will do amazing and we are very excited to see what ideas they have for the next term. We’ve continued to have our bi-weekly meetings with service projects incorporated, and attended Division Events such as the February DCM and Fri-Date with D34N. We will be training our new officer board and look forward to finishing the term strong!

San Mateo:

- Alyssa Enriquez

This month, our club continued to hold our weekly meetings where we had great member attendance. We had a club social where we played Family Feud with our members. We encouraged and had members attend the various service events throughout the month such as hearts for NICU babies, swimming for service, and DIY Bears for CR foundation by Sequoia. We also worked hard to prepare for and held our club elections and had officers attend the DCM. Although February was a short month, we managed to get a lot done!

-Danielle Richards

14

Sequoia: For the month of February, Sequoia’s Key Club began the month by reaching out to our local nursing home. We thought it would be nice to make Valentine’s cards for senior citizens. In total, we made around 130 cards! We also had our foodbank distribution on the first Tuesday of the month. We discussed elections and advertised it to the entire club! Our club also attended the February DCM, where we had an update of what’s been happening. Sequoia’s Key Club also had the chance to partner up with our local P.A.L., where we will have the opportunity to be part of a podcast! We will be discussing topics such as mental health to the current political climate. We have been reaching to organizations to see what other activities we can do as well as planning for our return to school:))!

- Sharon Song

South San Francisco:

For the month of March, South City has attended different DWS events, such as the DIY Bears event hosted by Sequoia! We also had the Send A Note interclub with Notre Dame and Carlmont where we made cards. We also attended the March DCM and Mr. Key Club. We are slowly transitioning and training our officer-elects, ensuring a smooth transition other the next term! Thank you all for an amazing term! Stay safe and keep swimming in service <3

- Caroline Narcisco

Westmoor:

For the past month, we have tried to end the year strong and preparing for the next one. We continue to provide fun and interesting events for our members to partake in service and bond with others. Our elects have taken charge and began hosting, planning, and in general, creating new ideas that are a breath of fresh air to our club. We had various interclub with other clubs on campus and the division. And we hope to continue this energy and excitement for the last 12 days of this term. Westmoor Key Club wants to say to all the members, the division, just this amazing club, thank you; thank you for allowing us to thrive and bring this opportunity of service and leadership during the crazy times we are currently facing. This isn’t how anyone expected to experience the 2020-2021 term, however, we all were able to still make it one of the best. I believe this is the last club summary from myself, and it’s been an absolute honor serving as president, and I can’t wait to see the new heights Westmoor and D34N will reach in the year to come.
