Lieutenant Governor’s Message
Aloha Aqua Apes! Welcome to the 2017-2018 term! I hope you are all just as excited as I am to begin a year filled with service and spirit! This is my first Lieutenant Governor message in the first newsletter of the term, and I have so much to say already. I would like to start off by congratulating every newly elected officer. You are a vital part of this division, and I can not wait to start working with you! Here are a few tips I would like to give: • Do not procrastinate! You will be delegated lots of tasks and it is always better to be on top of your work. Set deadlines for yourself, set multiple reminders, make a list of urgent and important business. • Always be early! As our District board always says: “Being early is one time, being on time is being late, and being late is unacceptable” • Ask for help! Never be afraid to reach out for help, there will always be people around you to answer questions, comments, or concerns. Summer is approaching, so start making plans! Summer provides you with a lot of time that you can spend planning proactively. Take advantage of these few months and get ahead of all your work. I strongly suggest to bond with your club, create an annual plan, and hold lots of service events and fundraisers during the summer. Take this time to really be productive, but also remember to have fun and enjoy your free time. Keep a look out for more events, updates, and information! There will be many opportunities to be recognized here in the newsletter, on the website, and at DCM’s. Check out our many resources listed in the “Staying Updated” page to get the latest news. Please contact me if you have any questions :-) See you all soon! With the spirit of service, Kayla Tai Division 34 North Lieutenant Governor

Eliminate Week What is Eliminate
Week?
Work together with other Key Club members to raise funds and awareness for The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus. Host your week in May—ideally, the week leading up to Mother’s Day. Use the guide here to plan your week and help save and protect women and babies around the world!
Step-by-Step Guide to Plan YOUR Eliminate Week
1. Get things started • Learn about The Eliminate Project and educate your club. • Share information about The Eliminate Project with Key Club members. • Talk to your school advisor or principal and get approval to host a Key Club Eliminate Week. 2. Plan your week • Choose how your club wants to get involved. Here are a few ideas: • Spread the word, save a life: Make The Eliminate Project a “household name” in your community. • Advocate to vaccinate: Inform everyone in your school about the impact of maternal and neonatal tetanus. • Give-something-up day: Raise funds by giving something up for just one day. • Spirit days and carnation sales: Raise funds and awareness with a week of spirit days and carnation sales in your school. • Idea book: Find more ready-made fundraising ideas for your club. • Aim to choose at least one activity in the advocacy category and one in the fundraising category. • Outline what you need to do to accomplish your club’s week of activities. • Set clear goals for your club.

District Convention
Richard Tang Aragon Key Club Secretary I didn't fully grasp the scope of Key Club and the number of lives it touches until I went to DCON. In fact, before I became a dedicated member, I saw Key Club as a place to eat lunch and sit in a chair. And when I heard about DCON, I thought of it as just a chance to hang out with my friends in LA for a few days. However, I now realize that Key Club and DCON represent so much more. While my Key Club moment was RTC, DCON further strengthened my love and passion for serving my community. Watching hundreds of members crying and hugging each other, knowing that this DCON would be there last, showed me what Key Club means to individuals; it isn't just a club, it's a part of one's life. Furthermore, seeing kids just like me being recognized in front of all the Cali-Nev-Ha members gives me the motivation to be the best secretary and member I can possibly be so that one day, I might be able to stand on that very same stage.

Tyler Koo Aragon Key Club Member I have never had an experience where I felt like the students rather than the advisors were truly the ones running the operation. This trip helped me realize how large of an impact Key Club has on people in the CNH district. I now realize the huge impact that key club leaves on my life, and I hope even more than the thousands at DCON can share my amazing experience next year.

Kim Vo Aragon Key Club Member DCON 2017 was absolutely BEE-utiful and APEtastic! CNH never fails to make an unforgettable weekend full of learning, fun, friends, dancing, and more. This one was special though because it was my last one... It was very bittersweet, but I wouldn't trade any of the experience for anything (even if greyhound was delayed by 1000000 hours). I'm proud of my home club as well because I could see how contagious the environment was for the newer members and even the officers. These 3 days fly by in the blink of an eye, but I'm glad I spent my last year with key clubbers who are so dedicated to serving others and being leaders. Also, I apologize to people who saw me ugly cry about 7 times on and off. It was a very emotional time, but don't worry they were mostly happy tears! I'm officially Aragon's IP secretary, and I'm glad to REPORT that I never want to use Excel ever again.

Emily Nguyen Carlmont Key Club Co-Vice President I am so thankful that San Carlos Kiwanis sponsored a portion of the cost for DCON. This trip has helped inspire and prepare for the 2017-18 term as an officer. I was also able to meet so many different people and celebrate the end of the term with them! This was my first DCON but hopefully, I will be able to attend DCON all 4 years of my high school career. To anyone unsure if they will fit in or enjoy DCON, remember Key Club is such a caring and inclusive place for everyone, so they'll always have fun!

Rebecca Jiang Carlmont Key Club Treasurer DCON 2017 was probably my Key Club moment. I stood in awe of all the spirit that every division had and admired those who were in higher leadership positions for their amazing oratorical abilities on stage. This was my first district convention and I served as a delegate to vote for the 2017-2018 term. It was interesting to here all the candidate's speeches and it felt empowering to have that responsibility of representing my club. I bonded so much with the people there and I cannot wait to go to Reno in 2018.

End of the Year Banquet
Jonathan Deridal Carlmont Key Club President The End of the Year Banquet has been one of my favorite events of the year. This is due to the importance of recognition for all the work done by all the members of Key Club. This event means a lot to people and especially seniors because they get to reflect on their final year of key Club and get recognition for the work that they have done. I also believe that this event motivates everyone there to work harder for Key Club because they see what this club means to people.
