Meet the D i v i s i o n ' s HELLO AQUA APES! I am Mary Kim Delemos and I will BEE serving you as your Executive Assistant for the 2013-2014 term. I am a sophomore at South San Francisco High School where I am also serving as Key Club President. One of my many goals this year is to unify our division and for all us to get to know one another outside of Key Club to not only strengthen the many bonds and friendships we create but also grow as one whole division. What brought me to Key Club and STAY was the many lovely Aqua Apes that were so welcoming and loving, who always made volunteering more than just acquiring service hours but has further gotten me to love what I do -- to SERVE. I hope to not only give you the BEST key club experience to the best of my abilities but also to inspire you to reach for new heights and support your drive to SERVE! BEE the best you can be! I look forward to seeing all your BEE-utiful faces and serving each and every single one of you. Together, let’s bring us a GOLDEN year!

Hey fellow aqua apes! My name is Kayla Larot and I'm a junior at Mills High School. I will be serving as your 2013-2014 Divisional Newsletter Editor. When I'm not doing Key Club stuff, I'm either rowing or involved in other volunteer organizations. I absolutely love animals. Other than helping people, I also want to help the environment and animals. I believe that everyone and everything has the right to be as equal and happy as every one of us. Although the term has barely started, I know that we could all work together and go BEEyond all of our goals. Honestly, I can't wait to see how our division grows throughout the year. I'd love to meet all of you so don't be afraid to say hi or approach me about any questions.

Leadership Team Hello fellow Key Clubbers! My name is Rachel Wong and I am a junior at Mills High School. This term I will be serving as your 2013-2014 Executive Assistant. I am currently the co-president of the Mills High School Key Club and have been involved in Key Club since freshman year. As a freshman coming into a new school and a new environment I was terrified. I had no intentions to join a club, my main focus was getting through school without getting dumped in a trashcan on Freshman Friday. But one day at lunch my best friend dragged me to a Key Club meeting. I knew absolutely nothing about Key Club and had no desire to become a member. But that desire quickly changed. I soon became addicted to volunteering. I longed for the joy that volunteering gave me as well as the people that I had helped. I went to every service activity planned and soon became very close to the senior presidents. They took my friend and I in and gave us something to be a part of, where we felt that our opinions really mattered. This is why I fell in love with key club. Not only the amazing experiences and opportunities but also the everlasting bonds and friendships that can never be broken. I hope to give everyone the opportunity to love and cherish Key Club as much as I do. These are my goals not only for this year but the many after. I hope to personally meet all of you and I feel it will be a fantastic year!

Remember that we are here to help. If you have any questions, feel free to contact any of us. Contact information will be on page 11.

Tour de Cure

On June 9, 2013, Mary Kim, Jeremy, and I went to volunteer at 9:00 AM at Tour de Cure, a biking event that supports the American Diabetes Association. Though there were very high gusting winds, the event still went on, and the bikers pushed through the hills and terrain of the route. Our job at this event was to work a water station, and help pump water for the riders, and provide a little rest stop for them. It was a lot of fun being able to speak with the riders, and find out what motivated them to ride early in the morning. They were all very friendly and very appreciative of our time and efforts put in to help volunteer. Even though the winds were blowing them back, they continued to bike through, and it was really inspiring to watch. It was a great event that was lots of fun, and I look forward to serving at more events with everyone else from D34N this year!

Lowell's Key Club showing their Key Club spirit at the Relay for Life.

On June 8 to June 9, from 9AM to 9AM, eight Key Clubbers from Lowell High School participated in the Sunset district's Relay for Life. Entering as Team "Odd Squad", they walked, jogged, and ran a total of 403 laps on the track field and raised $225. Albert Chiem was their top lapper, running a total of 103 laps! When asked how he was able to do it, Albert replied, "The encouragement of our friends and other teams definitely eased the pain. And at the end of the day, I remembered the reason I'm running- for my aunt." The overall event raised a little more than $25,000 for the American Cancer Society. We participated in many events like the Michael Jackson lap (walking backwards), the limbo lap (limboing at a limbo stick at the finish line), and zumba. "I felt really great helping such a good cause!" said Jimmy Chen. "Everyone was awesome and it was so fun!" -Kimberly Cheng

Kiwanis Special Games This year, the 36th annual Kiwanis Special Games took place at De Anza College. I arrived bright and early at 7:45 AM to help set up the games. I have never been to one of the games, and it was something new to me. A lot of adults were there and I was one of the few Key Clubbers there at the time. We helped set up for South San Francisco Kiwanis. After, we went to training for new group leaders, and we were assigned to our group of kids. After getting our packets and reviewing them, we went to go cheer on the field for the athletes, and participate in the pre-games parade. It was lots of fun, and I enjoyed greeting hundreds of kids on to the field. Next, we went to go find our groups. We were given sticks with a number/letter combo on the end, and we held them up for the kids to find us. With their chaperones, we walked around the field and participated in various activities, each with a different range of difficulties. Some events were simply dropping a beanie bag on a target, while others were common Track events like the 100 meter dash. It was lots of fun experiencing these events with the kids, and helping them out. We then escorted them back to a grassy area and finished helping out at the Games. Special Games is a quite eye opening experience. It was my first time participating in the Kiwanis Special Games, and I will definitely be attending next year. Special Games is a great opportunity for any Division 12 and Division 34 Kiwanis Family member to attend; and if you are free on the day of the games, you should definitely volunteer. It is the perfect example of why we as Key Clubbers continue to serve our communities every day; and I look forward to next year’s games! -Jeremy Jimenez
